I procured an old floor lamp that has a very antique period piece look to it. When trying to adjust it one night it snapped in two. I didn't want to just let it go since I really liked it's look and how turning it on was activated by a floor switch is unique. I brought in the lamp and the techs looked it over described what appeared to happen - where the break was, the condition of the cord, the hinge and the adjuster. They seemed to know what they were talking about as they went on to describe to me what they were going to do to repair it. They quoted me and gave me about a week of time to do the job. The followed up with me and called when the lamp was ready. After picking up the lamp I am very pleased with the job, they made it so the lamp can be adjusted as I tried to do before breaking it, albeit I have to be careful as it never really was meant to be adjusted. So if you have an antique-y lamp or light device or just a lamp you like in general that needs service try here. My price I felt was fair but hear they can run high on some of their repairs, but there aren't a whole lot of places like this either. I can say though, they did a good job with my lamp. read more

I brought in two lamps, needing lampshades, and was helped to pick shades -- sizes, shapes, color, height -- that brought out the beauty the lamps and the room they now sit in and recommended a different color cords that would "disappear" on the tables they sit on. I then brought in an antique lamp that had dented brass, making the glass globe lie crooked. They repaired it and cleaned the crystal part of the lamp -- inside and out -- until it gleamed. They educated me about my lamp, its time period, its original use, how it was converted from a gas lamp to electric, showed alternative globes that could change the look. I felt the charge was reasonable; their aesthetic eyes invaluable; and they gave me a lot of time, completed their work quickly, and were very pleasant. read more

I live in the next town over to Summit NJ and have used The Lamp Shop several times over the course of the last few decades. I had an old bell jar pendant to rewire and clean up. I emailed pictures of the pendant and said exactly what needed to be done. I received an email stating what the price would be. I did not know the person who responded to my email was not the owner....but it was his assistant who is a long time employee of several decades. I packed up the lamp and its components and printed out the quote. The owner was in the day I came to the store with the pendant. THE PRICE WAS NOW DOUBLE WHAT I HAD IN THE EMAIL THEY SENT. The specs of the job didn't change, but the price doubled. I was disappointed and angry. After doing some research, I found The Brass Shop in Westfield. The job was less expensive than The Lamp Shop's original price. By traveling an extra 15 minutes to Westfield I received a nicely done lamp and saved hundreds of dollars. Glad I looked further than a very local shop. I'll be going back to The Brass Shop whenever I need a lamp fixed. read more

Guys, this shop is run by an artist. I brought in a grimy silver thing that I was scared to plug in that didn't have a globe at all. I was told it was my great grandmother's, so wanted to see what could be done. It turns our it was a beautiful brass piece that could be totally refurbished into this work of art! After many years of having used standing lamps, I finally had occasion to encounter a smaller table lamp that needed a new lamp shade. However, unlike the lamps of old that used metal frames or clips to attach the shades to the light bulbs, many of the newer versions have rings in the center that rest on the area that the light bulb screws into. The problem is, the rings don't always match the size of the section the bulbs fit into. The problem? After calls to a couple Home Depots and Lowe's, no one would stay on the phone long enough to even address the question. Once we called The Lamp Shop however, they not only told us they had the parts needed, but also took time to explain the terminology behind it and what to ask for. Once we arrived at the shop (with lamp and new lamp shade in hand) the folks at the store were super nice and patient while they figured out the best way to get the new lamp shade working. Eventually they did, bringing new life to an old lamp! The Lamp Shop has a huge variety of lamps, lamp shades, chandeliers, sconces and filials. I also enjoyed the "mom and pop" nature of the store. If I need these lamps worked on in the future I'll definitely stop by again. read more

We brought our vintage gas chandelier in for rewiring. None of the several staff in the store were able to help us at all without the owner present, which seemed a bit odd. They promised we'd receive a call back within 2 days. We didn't and had to call several times to speak with him. He instructed me to come in and speak (now the 2nd hour long drive to the store), only to simply repeat everything that had been written down the first time by the staff. The owner seemed knowledgeable. We had a back and forth regarding the decision points. We then agreed to the details. After a lengthy wait, we were told the lamp was ready. Unfortunately, the specifics we agreed to were not done. Instead, the owner decided to go with the approach he initially offered before we agreed to what I wanted. I guess the customer doesn't know best. I also attribute this problem to his not writing down the specifics of what I wanted. The owner wasn't there when we picked the lamp up. The staff understood the problem that had occurred and did discount the cost given what had been agreed to, Regardless, we were still disappointed. I could have gotten the parts for $50, rather than give them the $150 they wanted. Suggestions: - Call ahead to find out when the owner will be there - Force him to write down the specifics of what you want done - Consider other lamp shops read more

I only have 8' walls and purchased a ceiling lamp that was too long, but it hung over my table so nobody would bump into it. I got rid of the table and loved the lamp, but it anybody over 6' tall risked bumping into it. I took it to The Lamp Shop and they were able to shorten it for me -- which required shortening the attachments as well as the long central pole. Very dishonest- I bought in a Wildwood lamp shade for repair - it was part of a pair of Wildwood porcelain lamps I had for over 15 years. When I picked up the lamp shade it was clearly not my bell shaped lamp shade I bought in to be repaired-. I went home and returned with the duplicate shade for the second of the pair- Maria claimed this was not the shade I bought for repair - these shades were never changed and we're originals - I have never experienced something like this, and I really am disappointed for chosing this shop. I will be taking further action against this business - I had already paid for repair, but I want to highlight their dishonesty - the shade they provided it's height is too short for this lamp and would never have been used for this lamp by the manufacturer Wildwood lamps. read more

4/21/17 I strongly recommend The Lamp Store in Summit, NJ for lamp repairs. This is why. Last week, I brought a nice table lamp in because it stopped working after it had been bumped. Bob who works there took the lamp to his back office work area and then returned the lamp to me saying it worked. In fact, when I returned home, the lamp blew out a new bulb. I returned again and told Bob about this. He blamed himself for not testing it more thoroughly. Bob replaced a part in the lamp and THEN WOULD NOT CHARGE ME FOR THE PART OR THE LABOR. Bob asked only that I purchase a bulb which I did. How about that!!! read more

As a perfectionist myself, I can honestly state that the work to restore our lamps FAR exceeded my high expectations. Andy's knowledge, professionalism, and attention to detail made him a pleasure to work with. I love the Lamp Shop in Summit. They always do a wonderful job and can repair and create any lamp or lighting fixture from whatever you may have ( like a special vase etc). The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because; 1. They are $$$ and 2. They take forever to complete a repair or order. So, if you don't mind spending the extra $ and waiting forever ( up to 1 or 2 months), then you won't be disappointed. They do work with many interior designers in the area so perhaps their 'jobs' take precedence over us mere mortals. read more

Stay away !! The worst experience I ever had in a store in my whole life ! I dropped of an antique chandelier to get it rewired ,the owner looked at it ,it was in perfect condition except a little dusty,and gave me an estimate of $100 and said he would call me back when it was done. One month later I had not heard anything so I called and he could not find it so he said he would call me back. He called me back and said it was crooked and that it had been that way when I dropped it off ! He then said that it would cost $700 ! ! To fix my chandelier that they broke ! We had an argument where I threatened to call the police and the owner accused me of lying ! I could not take the chandelier anywhere else to get it fixed because it would probably have been more expensive to fix it since it now was also broken ! They fixed it but he refused to accept any responsibility for the damage and charged me $400 !! Where I was supposed to pay $100 from the beginning . The owner was extremely rude !
