Tried one of the famous burger spots the other day and had a great experience overall! The staff was incredibly kind, and the restaurant was super clean. there were even a couple of employees constantly wiping things down while we were there, which I really appreciated. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and it was tasty, though the bun did get a bit soggy by the end. The real standout for me was the fries...so fresh and delicious! Definitely my favorite part of the meal. My daughter got the kids' chicken nuggets, and those were pretty tasty too. All in all, a solid spot! This place just wasn't really for me. My review is based on trying a variety of items since we ordered quite a bit-- a burger, fries, onion rings, a salad, wings, and a grilled cheese sandwich. I'll start with the positives. The customer service was friendly, and I did like the old diner-style vibe of the place. It has a nostalgic feel that makes you think it could be a really fun local spot to visit. Unfortunately, the food itself was just okay overall. My burger was supposed to come with chilies but they were missing, which was disappointing. The fries were cold by the time we got them, and the grilled cheese was a little more burnt than toasted. My son also tried the wings and described them as "weird," which pretty much summed up how we felt about them as well. I'm always on the lookout for a really good, juicy burger, and while I had high hopes, this one just didn't quite hit the mark for me. Haven't been to Chesters in a while, the wife was craving a green chile burger. We split rings and fries, I had a bacon cheeseburger. (Hint: when you order a green chili burger get the green chiles on the side, you get more that way.) both were fantastic, service was quick and we had two sweet teas. About a mile from the front gate you will see a building that says "voted best burger". The restaurant was clean, and only a short wait. We went at lunchtime on a Wednesday. The food came out quickly and tasted fresh. Special shoutout to the fries and onion rings, both tasted freshly cut and fried. The fries did not come with any (or very little) salt, but i think most people will forgive that since they are handmade, i prefer them more crispy as these were kinda soft but everyone still liked them. The burger was pretty big, i got a double cheeseburger, i don't recommend unless you are very hungry, most people will wish they ordered a single (wish i did). The only note is that nobody was a fan of the sesame seeds, but the bun was still good. Also the burger is not a smash burger and not a real thick patty, it's on the thinner side but still had a nice bite to it. The portions are not huge but you will likely not eat it all. First time here. I have passed by here at least a few times a week to go to and from work. Well, we finally made it here and definitely wasn't disappointed. I got the cheese burger with home cut fries and my husband got a double bacon cheese burger with hatch chili and home cut fries. The burgers were huge and messy, just like a great burger should be! They both were cooked perfectly. Well worth the trip and definitely wasn't disappointed in the price of burgers. We both highly recommend it. Our cashier was helpful as well. Food is Service Ambiance Chester's is one of my favorite burger places in San Antonio. Good quality food and it's always hot and freshly made. Never a complaint! Service is ok at the order counter but the guy at the pickup needs to learn better social skills. I approached him thinking he called my first name and he loudly told me it was another woman's and not mine. I explained my name was same as hers and again he loudly told me it wasn't me. He didn't explain himself and instead of being rude or loud he could have said-ma'am it's another lady, I know your last initial and your order is almost done. Lastly, the ambiance is claustrophobic. Why not make the ordering line wider so we aren't bumping elbows when paying. I could hardly process my credit card without being mashed up against the next person. Space. I'd say if you want a burger this is a good place to go, but if you want anything else from the menu, it's not gonna be that great. We ordered a grilled chicken salad and the fried fish basket and both of those were not very good. the fish was greasy. The salad was much smaller than I remember it being for that price. I love Chester's! Something about the aesthetics of the place and the nice fresh food makes it almost impossible not to stop by. Great for that old style feel of the restaurant. This is a burger joint that is close to Randolph Air Force Base. You will see many military coming here for lunch. The place is nothing fancy but clean. You go to the counter and order. The menu is on the wall and drinks are fountain or you can get a beer from the coolers behind the counter. You pay and sit and then they yell out your name when the food is ready. You pick it up and take it to your table. Nothing fancy. Customer service: everyone very friendly. Ladies at counter engaging and nice, the lady cleaning tables was engaging, friendly and super efficient. Burger: I got the green chile burger and fries. I requested no salt on the fries. The burger with sesame bun is a nice size burger. You do get more bread than patty. I got all the toppings onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles. All the toppings are fresh. I got the green chile burger while I could see the green chiles, but I really couldn't taste them. The burger was tasty, juicy, and perfect for me. It wasn't seasoned too much, but I like it that way, some might think it is bland. The fries were soggy, limp, and not very good. I would skip the fries. Chester's Hamburgers have been in business since 1984 and when you eat there you will know why. This was my first visit, and found it by seeing it on my route. The parking lot was pretty full and that is a good sign. The menu is pretty simple, and I went with the bacon cheeseburger with fries and a drink. When it comes to burgers I will take an old fashioned drive in style burger over all others any day! Chester's did not disappoint in this respect. I had a cheeseburger and chili cheese fries. The burger was bigger than I expected and full of that flattop cooked thin patty on a poppyseed bun. The Pattie's are thin so if I am ever in the area I'd try a double. This burger joint was recommended to me and I don't regret checking it out! The curb appeal isn't much to write home about but once you go inside, the vibe is super cool. There aren't a lot of "retro garage" places left anymore so the atmosphere is fun. I got the green chili cheeseburger with bacon with a beer. It was delicious and I also enjoyed the fries I shared with a coworker. They don't have an extensive menu but there are options to boost your burger and they have an extensive beer selection! When I say a burger is the best, I'm eating not only the flavor of the meat, but the freshness of the vegetables and the quality and crispness of the bun. This staple of Pat Booker Rd has been around since I could remember. I remember coming here as a kid and wanted to come back with my family. Unfortunately they haven't updated to include dietary restrictions. I hope they will update it eventually. I do not think I will be back because a burger salad is not what I want when I think about burgers. I love burgers, not salad. Chester's Hamburgers was a welcome sight as I rolled into SA after 20 years away. It is truly a fantastic burger. A great seasoned, generous, well cooked patty, fantastic toppings, crispy, savory bacon, and a bun whose size matches the patty...huge. The fries are large, well cooked, and perfectly seasoned. Everything from Chester's is masterful. If there is no Chester's in Heaven, I may think twice about entering. And, if Republicans and Democrats ate at Chester's, I do believe politicians would work together. And, when it comes to burger chains...Whataburger, Five Guys, AND In-And-Out are all vying for second place in the burger wars. Chester's makes it a no-contest. Chester's has 3 locations around our city, having been flipping burgers for number of years. I visited after a round of golf at Randolph, the location convenient to that location. Notice immediately, parking aplenty at this location, but the lot fronting the eatery is compromised by a couple of poles that can make maneuvering a bit tricky. There is parking left of the restaurant, and happily, a traffic light allows very easy (and safe) entry to the lot. The restaurant is relatively basic, with posters and memorabilia rounding the walls. As with the other locations, order at the counter, and your name will be called when food is ready. There are no waitstaff for the tables, just a young man bussing as needed. Staff is very friendly, and ordering a breeze. Multiple brands of beers are offered, tea and soft drinks as one might expect. The burgers/cheeseburgers are traditional, served with dressings as one may request...this is to say that burgers are made to one's preference...i.e. not prepared beforehand. There is no "secret sauce", or other proprietary finishes on these burgers. These traditional beefies are plated juicy, and served with a heaping mound of fries. I considered the fare very competent. So, if in the area, and one is hungering for a traditional, down home burger, departing from the "golden arches" type of burger, give Chesters a visit! I think you will enjoy!!
