We stop here when visiting Lincoln City. We often cook rather than eat out, since restaurants are so expensive at the beach. They are a small grocery store but have most everything you could needed. It's a well stocked grocery store that is clean and the folks working here are friendly. Wood can even be purchased here. After losing my little be brother tragically it 1 month ago, we went on this trip in his memory and his love of the fishing & outdoors. We stayed in Glen Eden and this was the closest grocery store. We were excited to be in a new town And stopped in at the only place close and open to the WorldMark Gleneden. I thought this just could be my paranoia but I swear that the white lady at the counter does not like minorities. Being from out of town we were met with eye rolls when we first walked into the store. I saw her walk over to one of her coworkers pointed us and start talking about us. We tried to let it roll because we needed groceries and it's the only place close to where we're staying. However they made it really uncomfortable to be in the store and I hate hate hate being put in these stupid ass situations. Just letting you know if you're brown or black you might want to keep it moving and go somewhere else. It is with the heavy heart that I report this because some of Oregon again seems really cool. Just not this place. When you been in situations before where people treat you differently because the color of your skin, going to places like this can be triggering. I'm telling you it'll kill your vibe Just keep it moving and go to a different store. Also after this incident I started looking into the history of Oregon and they have not treated my native American brothers and sisters very well even till now so this does not surprise me. The incident happened on Tuesday May 23rd. It was The closing shift. The lady was an older caucasian female who was manning the cash registers. If you're staying at the WorldMark GlenEden like us, I recommend going to get your groceries up in Lincoln, you'll be more accepted there and The people in Lincoln are more friendly. read more

There are several things they get an A+ on: -nice/friendly staff -good selection for a small market -fresh dairy, produce and meats -clean store -good food counter with great chicken tenders and fresh made sandwiches -excellent produce at their tent sales!! We've visited this particular Thriftway during our stays at WorldMark Depoe Bay - The Resort at Whale Pointe back 2013 and two stops recently on 4/19/15 and 4/21/15. Yes, there's WalMart, Fred Meyer, and Safeway in Newport. However, this Thriftway has a small community feel and a great selection of just about everything you need during a brief or extended stay. A plus is their friendly and efficient checkout staff! read more

Stopped at Chester's to stock up the hotel fridge when we arrived in town. Their variety of products offered was nice and my daughters LOVED their muffins from the bakery dept. I was really impressed with the selection here. I ended up getting some cinnamon roll bread from their bakery for French toast, Greek yogurt, and some really tasty bananas. They had a surprising offering of produce, which was nice to see in a touristy area. Prices were really reasonable. Pretty on par with stores you'd find in the valley. Plus, they had a sale on Ben & Jerry's \m/ The employees were all super friendly, and even chatted me up at various times during my shopping expedition. This is a great market with everything we needed for our stay at WorldMark, Depoe Bay! Food is decently priced. They had plenty of produce choices and a few great sales! Bing cherries in January for 1.99/pound and strawberries 2 pounds for $5. These are things I appreciate from a supermarket! They even had self-rising flour that I was seeking, which I wasn't sure they would stock. read more

Not bad for a small grocery store out in the middle of "somewhat" nowhere... (This coming from a big city gal). They have everything you need, fresh produce, meat, baked goods, pastas, frozen things, etc. And the most exciting wine! Yay! Bottom line, whatever you need, they're going to have it. The only two things I didn't like was the the prices were on average ~ 10-15% more expensive than most places I would shop (which makes sense because they are the only store for a few miles) and not all of the staff are friendly. Majority of the staff walking around the store seemed very upset and not happy to see customers. There was only ONE person who was friendly and he was our checker. He was really the only reason I would return because he was very nice and we had a pleasant interaction. read more

I stopped here almost exactly 1 year ago today for a family trip to Lincoln City, which I reviewed. Same thing, lots of sale items and the produce looked really good, again. Today's trip was memorable as I asked the cashier as we are checking out of they had a soda fountain machine as I needed to buy just a large cups worth of ice for a very small drink cooler to take to the beach. A 7lb bag would be all wasted. She said no, but did ask if I had something to put ice in, she would get me some. I had a new kids beach bucket in the car, brought it in and she went to the deli area and filled it up with ice! I didn't catch her name but she was at the first register around 11am on 8/30/17. read more

She was on her way home from work and not only stopped to check on me, but followed me all the rest of the way into Lincoln City. I watched Mark and Mary patiently help my 2 elderly parents and answered all their questions about things to do in the area. The night before, a young woman who just moved to the area did not know the answer to my question and she went out of her way to find the answer. They were all very kind and helpful. read more

It seems like I can shop here twice before having to take months off from this place. My last encounter was buying a gift card for Christmas, which wasn't "in the system". It took three visits to get it fixed because the bumbling morons who work there don't know how to do anything. Tried to go back today, three months later, for a half gallon of milk. Was tail-gated by an employee's ride (therefor removing ALL responsibility from the employee?!) for about 2.5 miles on a windy, narrow, riverside road. She tore out of the parking lot when I tried to talk to her, and when I confronted the employee, INSIDE THE STORE! for this... HE YELLED AT ME TO STOP HARASSING HIM!! What a welcome surprise this place is! We're visiting, and due to numerous eating sensitivities, (Vegetarian, gluten sensitive, dairy sensitive - you name it, we got it) we tried to bring everything with us. Naturally, several key items fell through. In my experience, small stores in small remote towns don't generally cater to our range of necessities, but I was able to get gluten free bread, and my choice of Silk or Almond Breeze almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk or some combination thereof. I also had not trouble getting the absolutely-necessary-on-any-vacation popcorn kernels (less of a surprise, but you never know). Good wine selection. Finally, not one, but two options for locally roasted coffee beans, ground or whole bean, and date stamped. Oh, be still, my food-snob heart! Also, random: live east coast lobsters. Because. PS - if, like me, you discovered your lack of breakfast foods at very inopportune time, you may also be interested to know that there is a coffee shop right next door. read more

This is the smallest of the local grocery stores I've been to on the coast, and the only one in Depoe Bay -- it's about the size of 3 convenience stores -- the size markets were 40 years ago, before mega marts, superstores, and one-stop-shopping dominated the street. Definately a "step in" market. Lots of beer/mixers to cater to vacationers and weekenders, but also good looking produce -- spring is good for fruit and veggie sales. Dairy and bread were fresh, aisles were well stocked with enough variety to do my shopping, and even a satisfactory array of frozen veggies (and ice cream) -- though I didn't find a single grapefruit in the produce section.... which is a deal breaker for me. The food from the deli counter smelled good -- I'm guessing pic-nic folks can find enough fried goodies and chips to make a good afternoon at the beach! read more

My wife and I just entered the Thriftway and purchased some fresh nectarines for my mother who needed to eat some fruit to increase her blood sugar. We used her state food card because she did not feel up to getting out, in the rain. Upon checkout I am still not entirely sure if Teresa was being rude to me as well. Pretty sure she was letting me know that east coasters were below common Oregonians. When we were driving away mom had to spit out some of her peach because the insides were brown and stringy. My wife went back into exchange the fruit and the young man that checked us out was going to exchange it. Teresa wanted to help my wife and when she did so she told her that since we purchased it with a food card we could not give money back. She also said she could not return the food according to Oregon State Law. She did allow us to get equal amount of another fruit and saw to it to explain the math regarding the difference per weight. My wife is sure she was being treated as though basic math and currency skills were beyond her. My wife ask the employee who checked us out the first time if Teresa was like this all the time. He looked nervous to answer. (Probably wanted to keep his job since Teresa apparently is a supervisor). While my wife was choosing her second choice of fruit Teresa was shaking the rotten fruit at another customer while talking to them. Wonder what derogatory comment she made. This visit was surprising to me. I think I will not visit this little store anymore. I will go back to salt lake and forget about Teresa and continue my career and raise my family. The other people who work here and the customers hopefully will prosper. Who ever owns this store will have to make some sort of decision and hopefully it was all just a misunderstanding. read more

This place was absolutely ridiculous. The employees have no urgency are extremely disrespectful. We waited in the seafood section for 45 minutes waiting for someone to help us with the seafood. The store is located in a prime location, but the employees and overall mindset of the store is terrible. I will never be returning to Chester's market. read more

For customer service alone. Friendly helpful staff. Made the trip with small kids a little more bearable. Checker involved our kids with helping out with the bags and they loved that.
