This is not your typical hard-sell, serious wine tasting experience. The Depot Bay Winery is located on the 101 across from the bay. It's a small, cave-like space that may house a half a dozen people. There are no stools, just a tasting menu, a bar in a cave that's filled with dollar bills hanging from the ceiling and off the walls. I wasn't impressed with the wine because a lot of it was sweet fruit wine, which is not my thing. I did buy a bottle, which was overpriced, but this wasn't a high-pressure spiel and only a $10.00 tasting fee per person, which was deducted from the wine purchase. The tasting lasted 15-minutes. We drove to Depoe Bay from Lincoln City to check out their winery. At first I was expecting it to be much larger, but it's actually really small nestled between two different businesses right on the bay. The winery is inside a small cave with so many dollar bills hanging from the walls and the ceiling. You can actually hang your own dollar bill on the ceiling/wall and decorate it with sharpies that they have on the counter. We really don't carry any cash these days so we didn't have anything to hang on their ceiling or the walls lol. The nice gentleman behind the counter showed us what kinds of wines they had available upon our entry. He explained to us that if we did at least three different tastings, then we would be able to buy a wine bottle for $10 off, in which we agreed upon. We tried the following wines - Chardonnay, peach, pear, and apple jack. My absolute favorites were the Chardonnay and the apple jack, while my boyfriend enjoyed the peach and the pear. The apple jack was kind of like apple juice but with alcohol mixed in. I loved the apple jack so much that we decided to buy a bottle of it. We were told that Depoe Bay Winery is able to ship their wines to Las Vegas, where we're visiting from, and the best part is that there's no sales tax involved when we buy from them when we get back home! Amazing! This is definitely something I'm looking forward to. Will highly recommend this winery to everyone visiting the Depoe Bay area. My recommendation is dependent upon what you're looking for--this is not a tasting room like you'd find in the Willamette Valley. It's super casual...people just drop in and stand at the counter with little glasses and try sips of various wines. Friendly service. Nothing serious. read more

This is really a cave disguised as a downtown storefront. The space is very small but does its job. I had a wine tasting that was five choices and were reasonable tasting pours. Just got into town and stopped to watch the whales and gorgeous views, and thought it would be complete with a glass of wine and turned around and saw this gem. The place is very local and unique with paper mache and dollar bills hanging from the ceiling, making look like a cool cave. The money goes to a local charity, so really neat. We did a wine tasting and was very happy with all the options and they make it unique to what you like. The guys were very personable and obviously have quite a following because they were shipping out large boxes of their wine to far away customers. If you want to find the worlds best fruit wines, look no further. That's not to deter from the variety of other fantastic wines they have, but the sweet red could easily be mistaken for grape juice with a kick. If you want any of them to be sparkling just add Chardonnay like a mimosa. I prefer sweet and not dry so the fruit selection has been my favorite to grab one anytime I'm passing through. If you're looking for Christmas in a bottle ask for Santa's Elixir, can't disappoint. If you've found the hole in the wall low ceiling with dollar bills hanging from it and gravel for flooring you've enter the pearly gates of Depoe bay. Adam is incredibly helpful, knows his stuff and is hilarious. As with everything prices have increased, most bottles are $25+ each. As a small winery they source their grapes and Vinyard from the Willamette valley (not to be mistaken with WVV, that's Salem). But if you buy 6 you get one free. Flights/tasting are $10 for 5 tastes, or feee with bottle purchase. Essentially taste toward what you want to buy. Hours are strictly 11am-5pm but they ship and you can order online. If you're lucky, you can spot the 3 resident whales across the street. read more

FREE WINE TASTING, why yes, yes I would. Very laid back. The guy there is really nice and has a nice knowledge of the wines. They have a nice sweet selection that is pretty much all good. Behind the counter on a shelf are a few more selections that they have some seasonal definitely worth tasting. They have another selection as well. They are located in the little strip along with lots of other shops. You can taste as many and as little as you would like. The bottles of wine are around $20-$25 each. When you come in there are lots and lots of bills hanging everywhere, they actually let it build up and every few years they go and donate the money. read more

Plum and cranberry are my favorite, but stopped in today for a tasting and tried the blackberry, apple & early muscat. The Early Muscat is amazing, highly recommend trying if you like sweet wine. This is such a cute little tasting room! If you are y'all be aware the ceilings are low and have dollar bills hanging from it. While the wine is not my favorite mostly Because what they do best is fruit wine. They are good. My husband is a big fan of mead and they have a great one. I loved that the cranberry just tasted like cranberries without sugar. It was tart and flavorful. I bought the blackberry to bring home to the hubby since he likes the sweeties stuff. I will say that it's not super sweet though and I appreciated that as someone who doesn't typically drink sweet wine. I did enjoy the cab it wasn't to tannic and had a smooth finish. I also appreciated that they collect the dollar bills threw out the year and donate it to local charities. The gentleman working was filling in that day and was super nice and engaging. Albeit for a good cause, your really trying to sell $30.00 bottle of wine. I get it. Selling on the coast is a tough. Selling Salem wine on the coast has a huge mark up. Good luck. The wine industry is tough. Free samples yes. That helps. Depoe Bay has several wines to choose from. I tried a couple. All good. I wish I had the money to try each one. It would be nice to see what they have made. As a stop in a sleepy little no internet town. With the worlds smallest harbor. Anna was super sweet and informative, detailing each wine we tasted! The red wines were all delicious and the tasting was free (a little plastic sample cup, but I don't mind because as I just mentioned, it's free). The dollars hanging off the ceiling are donations from customers and later exchanged at the bank to be donated to a charity of their choice. What a wonderful idea! When I go into a tasting room, I have to expectations or preconceptions. However, when the schtick is to serve the wine in little plastic "pill" cups, and the tasting room server was so annoying, I just couldn't get excited. The "dollar decor" is silly, but I overlooked it. The cups were another matter, as was the attendant. The wines themselves weren't bad, but weren't good, either, and for the quality, way overpriced. I would suggest selling for quantity, and not for quality (ie, the latter is costly, the former is cheap, and that's how I see these low-quality "artisanal" wines when compared against hundreds of other Oregon wines (which I've done). read more

If I wasn't in Utah I'd get it shipped to me but I'll have to settle for more frequent visits I guess. read more

The first time my Darling Husband, of over 12 + years, and myself walked into the Depoe Bay Winery... we were surprised to notice that there were wine bottles on the counter. I did not sample any wines on that first afternoon. Also, there were dollar bills hanging from the ceiling for a fundraiser. There are a few other items on sale as well as bottles of wine, at least there were when we were inside. I asked the clerk behind the counter a few questions about the wines and the winery and I was pleased with their answers. I think we were there mid week, but it was a few years ago. We purchased a wine and then saved it for later on that first afternoon. Subsequently, we have returned a few more times for different wines. I sampled some wines during our last trip to Depoe Bay Winery. Did you know... certain wines go better with specific foods. I learned about this when I was in my twenties. And lastly, we brought our own bag with us when we were shopping for wines... it has a handle. It's wine time!!! read more
