Ending our evening birthday celebration with delicious cocktails! This place is a slightly obscure location, the vibe and interior decor make up for it. Our server did an excellent job. He ordered the Sex Magic and I got the Smoke Show. Sex Magic was our favorite of our two drinks. Surprisingly this place was relatively busy for a Friday evening after 10. Overall, a festive vibe and tasty cocktails to end the evening.

OMG! I am in love with this place. They do this thing called the Alchemist where you draw cards for a mystery drink. We did one with alcohol and one mocktail. Both were heavenly. The perfect little space. Elevated decor, cocktails, and cheese boards. I could stay here forever.

Man, am I SO glad we checked this place out. My Wife and I LOVE Speakeasies, and we're excited to try this one out, with a group of friends. The Service is On Point, and the drinks were Perfect! Be careful, though, they're pretty potent, so pace yourself! The night was a success, so so fun, and afterwards we went to the Green Lady Lounge for some music and chill time. I Highly recommend the Brass Monkey Lounge as a fun spot for crafted cocktails, creative and attentive service, and all around Vibe.

Speakeasy? Say less! I love getting to try new concoctions, and Brass Monkey did not disappoint with a really vintage atmosphere and delicious drinks! Went in for a Friday night, and even though we got in early (definitely get a reservation!), it started filling up before we left! The inside is very cozy and you can tell the staff all know what they're doing. My friends and I tried a couple of rounds of drinks, which were all delicious. For one of my rounds, I tried the mystery Alchemy selection where you choose two cards from a deck--it was a cool way to get a new drink I didn't expect with the surprise of the cutest polar bear cup in the world! With the Alchemy selection, you can pay a few extra dollars to take home your vintage glassware, and I just had to! Thanks for a great evening of drinks, Brass Monkey! Excited to check this out again and try more of their tasty offerings!

The Brass Monkey Lounge is a very unique spot. Visually, it has that modern speakeasy look, but the space is brighter and more open than you'd expect, so it doesn't feel super intimate, it gives more of a cocktail lounge vibe. But what really makes this place stand out is the staff. They go out of their way to create a genuinely warm and welcoming atmosphere, and you can feel it the moment you walk in. That kind of energy is hard to fake, and it's what makes you want to come back. Additionally, the drinks were flawless in both presentation and in taste. We will be back!

Easily the best drink experience I've ever had. The vibes are absolutely vibing. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The drinks are a little higher than I normally pay but the quality is absolutely 10/10. All the syrups are made in house and the drinks are curated with such care and exquisite flavors.

I'm a sucker for a good speakeasy -- especially one with such great decor and ambiance! It's not a big space, which is perfect for a speakeasy, but I would recommend a reservation if you're headed there on a weekend night. All the seats were taken by the time we left. We had excellent service and enjoyed hearing our server, Kirk, talk about the many cocktail offerings as well as the Alchemist Experience! Would recommend the Alchemist Experience if you're feeling adventurous! My friend and I each went that route and ended up with very different cocktails. One we loved and one that was so-so (though probably just based on personal preference). There are so many cocktails on the menu that I'd love to go back and try a few more!

It was Thirsty Thursday and my group of friends chose The Brass Monkey for our sipping spot. This speak, easy type bar is cozy, and absolutely beautifully designed. It is tucked away and unnoticeable from the outside until you see a simple red door. Finding it (which isn't hard) is a treat in of itself. I love the cocktail menu with it's unique design featuring their signature cocktail and a mystery offering which ends with a take home treat for the adventurous which is an amazing touch. I won't spoil it with all the details but when you go check out the entire cocktail menu and you will find the option. I had the Saz Arrack- Rye whiskey, bitters, Swedish punch ( I have no idea what that is), orange liqueur and absinthe spritz. Flavor notes are : spiced, complex and stiff. In other words, if you like the flavor profile of a old fashion or a Manhattan who would love this cocktail. I also tried their Brass Monkey cocktail as well. I would recommend one substitution of orange juice in that drink rather than the orange beverage they currently use. Our service was amazing and helpful with our selections. I definitely bookmarked this place for many return visits.

Great spot for a happy hour beverage or a 40th birthday cocktail crawl! The space is beautiful and the staff are some of the friendliest in KC. Street parking, speakeasy entrance, vivacious crowd with comfy seating. The menu gives ya something new to try each time you pop in. Very cool joint!

The outside does not even come close to how awesome it is on the inside. Cozy vibes and absolutely beautiful. Highly suggest making a reservation because the space is small and can fill up fast. I ordered the Alchemist for the first round and I was amazed that the bartender could pull out a drink that tasted that good with the cards I pulled. The only downside is that if you really like your drink, it was a one time thing, so you can't order the same one again. Next, I got the Brass Monkey and it was delicious and tasted like an adult Sunny D. Loved the experience here!

A new speakeasy for KC! This place has the true speakeasy charm. From the entrance, to the menu to the lighting inside. The server was quite knowledgeable as well and offered a game of cards to get a bartender's choice drink, but unfortunately two of the drinks we ended up with were very sweet, but one of them did taste like a familiar candy which was a unique experience for a cocktail. We might come back and try more of their dry cocktails.

    Cocktail and vibe.

Really beautiful speakeasy with amazing drinks. Staff was very attentive and helpful.

Brass Monkey is everything I want in a speakeasy. There's the appropriate air of mystery and imagination as you descend the stairs to the waiting lobby. Inside, a serene, tenebrous ambience, comfortable seating and exquisite cocktails await. I highly recommend the Alchemist Experience. You choose cards from a deck to determine your drink components. From there, the alchemist conjures up your perfect elixir, for you and you alone. This has all been predetermined of course. Your perfect cocktail has always been waiting for you, woven on the looms of dimension. Just ask the Monkey. Our server and metaphysical guide, Kirk, was super friendly, happy to inform and advise. He helped to make the whole experience a memorable one.

That changed yesterday, when Diana Condori, the bar manager, was named a 2026 James Beard Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service semifinalist. As we love supporting restaurants and bars that receive that kind of recognition, my wife and I headed to Fern Bar that evening. I was especially curious what exactly a "sugarcane and agave bar" meant. We arrived around 5:30pm and found only a handful of guests inside. After congratulating the bartender who first served us, he mentioned that Diana was working that night and would stop by to meet us. During our conversation, Diana shared that she didn't even know she had been nominated. She woke up Tuesday to a call from owner Bryan Arri, who said he had big news and was coming over. Her first thought was that something terrible had happened--like the bar had burned down. Instead, he showed up with coffee and told her she was a James Beard honoree. Diana is originally from Bolivia and has lived in Kansas City most of her life, with the exception of time spent in San Francisco during the pandemic. She further refined her cocktail craft through local pop-ups in Kansas City under the name Condor's Cove. When Bryan was preparing to open Fern Bar, he reached out to bring her onto the team. The printed cocktail menu immediately reminded me of the Monarch and the Mercury Room--not surprising given Bryan's background at Manifesto and the Monarch. Thoughtful, intentional, and clearly designed for people who appreciate serious cocktails. We planned on having one or two drinks but ended up staying for three, thanks to an outstanding lineup and a memorable conversation with Diana. We tasted: * No Fly Zone - Rum, agave, pineapple foam * Mr. Collage - Smooth, elegant, egg-white cocktail * Three Negroni Lunch - Bitter, boozy, and beautifully balanced * Pendergast No. 4 - Complex and spirit-driven * It's Bananas - Banana liqueur with bright tropical notes * Off the Rails - Creative and well-executed rum/agave cocktail One downside of many cocktail-forward bars is the lack of food, but Fern Bar offers two varieties of mini burritos for $4--just enough protein to keep things balanced while indulging. Great concept, exceptional service, and truly memorable drinks. Check it out--and be sure to say hello to Diana.

Second I tried the Neo Cosmo (white rum, strawberry, cacao, coconut, rose hip, lime, bubble) which was good and was a fun drink with an ice cream shaped cup and a bubble on the top (meant to look like an ice cream cone).
