I absolutely love Barrel 1 Winery. The wines are superb and Audrey, the owner is absolutely wonderful. If you are looking for a local winery with excellent quality wines, Barrel 1 is the place your may have been searching for. I love their Viognier, Canelli, Tempranillo Rose, Merlot and many others. Not only the wines are consistently excellent from one vintage to another, but the service is beyond great. Every time we visit Barrel 1 we are treated as family. Our last visit was right before harvest and the estate vineyard looked just beautiful. The winery is very nice and there is always a cool breeze in the tasting area. Another fantastic experience at Barrel 1 last weekend. The owner, Audrey, and her family are the most wonderful hosts, and their wines are some of our favorites. They offer 6 tastings of their Estate grown wines for $15. They're not currently serving munchies, but you're free to bring your own. The wines are easy drinking, but with full flavors. We really like their Merlots ('15, '16, and '18), enjoyed the two newish 2018 Rosés, the 2016 Canelli, but my all-time favorite is their 2017 Viognier (a little smokey, like a mellow mezcal). If you're lucky, there might be a few other bottles open that aren't on the tasting menu and you might get to try them as well. Wine tasting can be very subjective however service is not. In our opinion, Barrel 1 is one of the best wineries in San Diego County and we highly recommend you give them a try. read more

We enjoyed our time here :-) We each did a wine tasting (about $15 per) and then each ordered a glass of our favorites (about $10-15). There was a nice variety of wines to try! Even in the midst of covid19 restrictions, Audrey was awesome in adhering to all safety regulations, had hand sanitizing bottles all around, and even provided us some friendly neighborly suggestions as we were visiting/exploring the nearby eateries and cities! Was in town for the weekend & found this place on google. Barrel 1 did not disappoint!! We went on a Sunday & luckily it was not crowded. They have a small but very nice & scenic outdoor patio with good music & umbrellas. The owners Tom & Audrey are super nice & friendly!! They have a diverse selection of wines & they are all delicious which made it hard to pick the bottles we wanted. We went with the Cab, the Tempranillo, & the Viognier. My favorite on our tour so far, we stopped here on our way from the wild animal park. They have a beautiful property, super friendly and welcoming. They have a nice patio and a beautiful yard with chairs. Their wine was my favorite, I don't usually like white but their whites were very good. My favorite was the cab. Love this winery! It's less than a five minute drive from my house and the winery itself is stunning. It's a ways back from the road so you feel much further away from Magnolia traffic than you are. Audrey is so nice. My boyfriend and I went on a holiday weekend and things were winding down. We ended up talking with Audrey for quite a while and she was so much fun! She let us try a few extra special wines that were already open (since we were the only people left) and they were really good. I bought their Merlot a few years back for our one year anniversary and I, despite not being a huge merlot fan (no thanks to Sideways, I just find merlot too dry), loved it! It was so smooth and silky for a merlot. We got it again recently and enjoyed it on our last day at our previous residence. Really a nice, upscale winery without any sort of snobbish feel. read more

I'll give 3 stars but these stars are only because the wine is super expensive for Ramona wines. I mean, they're not Napa/Sonoma or even Paso to charge $30 for 3 white wines/3 red wines. 1st let me say the staff is extremely nice and welcoming. The tasting is done outdoors and the area is very nice and lends itself to sit back and relax and enjoy oneself. The white wines are nothing special. For $30 a tasting to include not so good white wines with 2 Tempranillos that in my opinion are OK but not worth mid to high $40s. That's where this winery went wrong. I love the friendly ambience but the price for the wines won't make me come back. I wanted to give 5 stars because the staff really worked hard to make my tasting experience a nice one. read more

Audrey and the gal working with her were so friendly, it was kinda like hanging out with friends that we never knew we had! The grounds were beautiful. And the wine is SO GOOD! I'm no wine expert by any means, so when I go to wineries it's usually just for the experience and ambience, And I don't typically love the wines. BUT I enjoyed every wine I tasted from here! The worst customer service ever!!!! We were looking forward to check this winery on the way back from Julian. We walked in and there was only one lady working there from what i noticed, who was the owner. She asked me to wait few minutes to clean up the tables as other people were leaving. It is sad. We have came here couple of times before and had tasting and purchased wine "Black Widow" and had my son 8 years old with us. Coming back from Julian today we were looking forward going for some wine and buy couple bottles and become a member. As soon as we walked in , looking for sit the lady on the counter said we can't have kids they have to go over where grass is " far from me. She was not even interested to go over the wine and just turned her head to other people. We looked at each other and said to each other no reason to spend couple hundreds of $$ to get an attitude. Went there with my fiance and had a great time... Tom and Audrey are great and very knowledgeable when it comes to wine and the vines, good stuff! There 2012 vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and their infamous Black Widow Merlot was my favorite! Who knew Ramona had wine?! My friends and I made the journey out to Ramona on a lovely Sunday afternoon and were greeted by Barrel 1's owner, Audrey, who poured our tastings all afternoon. Such a cool experience to hear the stories of each wine--all wines are estate-grown at Barrel 1! Our wine was accompanied by a high-quality and delicious cheese and chocolate board that perfectly enhanced the flavors of each tasting. We enjoyed every wine we tried at Barrel 1 (truly!), but if we had to pick a favorite, it would be the 2014 Merlot. Next time you're in the mood for wine, give Ramona Valley a try! read more

Barrel 1 Winery provides a great overall wine tasting experience. My friend and I went out to check out this new winery at their first weekend opening. The estate grown wines are delicious, especially the Tempranillo and Merlot! Can't wait to try the Cabernet when it gets released. The tasting area is set in the midst of a beautiful family ranch & vineyards in Ramona California. Horses grazing and free range chickens enjoying the landscape too. I wanted to stay all day! This place was amazing! My roommates and I had the best time and will most definitely be going back. The tasting was $10 for about 5 wines and they let you repeat your favorite, What?! Glasses were $8 each and bottles ran about $24-30 a steal in my opinion. Audrey took incredible care of us even though she was pretty busy and the wines were absolutely delicious. I loved their story of how they got started and that the wine making process is done completely by Audrey her husband Tom and Tom's father. Even though they just opened they were running very smoothly and the environment is absolutely charming probably due to the fact that Audrey is an interior designer. I purchased their muscat which was phenomenal and even though I don't usually like white wines, this one was just too delicious to pass up. I also really liked that they offered a complimentary personal sized charcuterie plate! I don't know if they're planning on doing this forever, but I hope so the cheeses, crackers, and salami complimented our wines perfectly. Can't wait to go back and try more wines and of course to say Hi to Cooper the dog. read more

We had such a wonderful time here today! The wine was great, they have a very unique taste. The company; Audrey, and the ambiance was extremely relaxing. Their home and the grounds are beautiful and immaculate. We had the pleasure of meeting their sweet old pup, Cooper, their darling chickens and watching wild birds. We showed up 20 minutes before closing and spent an hour chatting with Audrey and enjoying the evening. I could have stayed there all night!
