First, this place feels like I've been transported to a beautiful country villa in France. The decor is impeccable and welcoming. Next, the staff was fun and moved together to support all of the tables. Great service but shoutout to Drew who started out my service. Drinks: they have a beautiful selection of wines, champagne, cocktails, and beverages (teas and coffee). I decided to try the Jasmine and later a dry and perfect glass of red wine. The Jasmine was divine! If you're not into sweet cocktails and enjoy tangy flavors, this is for you. The flavors were balanced together well, helping to manage the fattiness from some of the starters I was nibbling on. Food: For starters I tried the Escargots. This unique presentation was exquisite! And the flavors, dare I say-magnifique!!!!!! The puff pastry on top was buttery and perfectly flaked, creating a smooth support for the escargot at the bottom. The flavors, were absolutely divine, I especially loved the parsley butter on the dish. This is a must try! My friend loved her Caesar salad and said that it's the first that she's enjoyed something so simple but rich. Mains- I ordered the Steak Frites and my friend ordered the Omelette. She simply loved her omelette but I did not fully enjoy my steak frites. The steak was a bit too salty. I did mention it to our wait team and they were kind enough to offer me another steak or dish. I decided on going with the steak tartare instead. The steak tartare was impeccable! Paired with a quail egg on top, this dish was worth it. Although my dish failed I wouldn't say that this discouraged me from returning again because sometimes these things happen. Chez Billy Sud was a wonderful French escape in the heart of Georgetown, conveniently near my workplace as I had the chance to stop for a solo lunch. It was certainly packed even during the off-hours, which speaks to its commitment to high-quality service and food delivery. Reservations would be highly recommended for dinner hours. I was immediately seated in their outdoor space, which made for a great ambiance with wall decorations representing traditional Parisian street signs and art. Service was consistently strong, and I appreciated the recommendations when I asked on popular menu items. Their bread was soft, delicious, and delivered quickly after being seated. My only hesitation from the fifth star was that the Steak Frites listed as a New York strip, but my cut of beef was sadly a different variety. The flavor was absolutely delicious, with its peppercorn-crusted top, but it made it difficult to cut--especially since I wasn't given a steak knife. I still thoroughly enjoyed my meal, but did feel a bit disappointed in the tougher cut. The fries and béarnaise both complemented the dish well, so overall I still had a great experience. Overall, the environment and service were strong highlights. I also give props for fairly affordable prices for the high quality of dishes on their menu. One of those places you come to when you want to see a politician or rub shoulders with one of the DC elites, Chez Billy Sud was chic but not my favorite French restaurant in the city. We were promptly sat and the tables are very close together so you can see what everyone eats around you. We started off with a bottle of dry light red and some escargot, beef tartare, and the Caesar salad. The escargot were tasty but they don't serve it with bread unless you ask - I would say Le Dip still has the better escargot as they were light on the sauce/butter. Caesar was decent but at $16, was not worth the price. For our mains we got the mussles, the burger, and the crispy duck. I think the crispy duck was the standout of the whole meal- non fatty, perfectly crispy, and a good portion. Burger was pretty solid with great toppings but not as good as Le Dips. Now their fries, those were insanely good- make sure to get some fries. Mussles were a huge portion as well but just ok. 20% gratuity already added and service was fairly solid. Good spot but not my favorite French in the city. read more

We came by here at lunch time on a Saturday and we're very happy with our choices. The bar is stocked and able to create expertly crafted cocktails. The quality of the food is top notch and the service was quick and friendly. We did come right before close, but we did not feel rushed. The interior was clean and roomy. We sat outside as we had brought our dog with us. She was allowed in through the outdoor entrance and the staff were very sweet towards her. I enjoyed the steak tartare, cooked perfectly to medium per my request. The French fries were SOOOO crispy and the steak has a fabulous sear. Both the goat cheese and fig plate and the tomato salad were delicious. The combo of fresh tomatoes, tomato jam and crispy bread was down up just right. Chez Billy Sud is about as classic a French bistro or brasserie you will find in Georgetown, replete with wicker chairs, tile floors, and blue and white stripes. The seating area is small, perhaps a bit tight, and the lights are a bit bright. I wouldn't exactly describe it as romantic as some of the other reviews have, more chic perhaps. Our server was very bubbly, and she gave glowing recommendations of some of the menu items -- the confit canard, in particular. We started our night with the beet salad, which was good although a bit disorganized. It can occasionally be fun to assemble your own bites, but in this case I just found it a bit annoying to try to wrangle things onto my fork. For mains, we split the confit canard and the sea bass. The sea bass was similar in some ways to the trout almandine I enjoyed at Le Diplomate. I found the Le Diplomate rendition to be a bit better -- a crisper cook to the fish and a more coherent profile to the accoutrements -- although this was also quite good. The confit canard was a true discovery though. I've never truly felt succulent was an appropriate description for a food until I tried this dish. The accompanying potatoes and sauce were also excellent, well cooked and flavored. I probably could have eaten three servings. The ducks out in the park will truly need to keep their guard up around me for some time after this. We finished the night with the cheesecake, which was stunningly cooked. And the berry compote was a quite pleasant accompaniment. read more

Their brunch menu doesn't offer many entrees but I saw many tables with the omelette and burgers so decided on the bistro burger. It tasted like French onion soup with Gruyère cheese and onions. Located in Georgetown, Chez Billy Sud is a short walk away from M Street, just far enough to create a peaceful dining experience where you can get away from the city whether you join them in their indoor or outdoor seating. While the interior is not as large as other Georgetown restaurants the layout accommodates for many tables the restaurant has done a nice job of making the interior feel welcoming and inviting. What the indoor lacks in space however, the patio seating makes up for. The patio seating is spread out and runs the entirety of the depth of the indoor seating. In terms of the menu there were many options that would be a great choice. I ended up going with a specialty option that was not on their menu, a lamb dish. It was fantastic. It was flavorful and the meat was so well cook that it easily fell off the bone. In addition to the main course, I got dessert and tired both the "CRÈME BRÛLÉE" and the "MANGO SORBET" which both were delicious. Overall, I would recommend Chez Billy Sud for any occasion. The food is great and the environment is nice. Definitely stop by Chez Billy Sud if you have the time or occasion. read more

On a slightly chilly April evening, I opted to sit indoors and was pleasantly surprised by how warm, cozy, and inviting the space felt--almost like dining in someone's beautiful home. I went with my usual go-to: the escargots, which, as always, did not disappoint. Rich, garlicky, and perfectly prepared. The côte de porc was another standout--juicy, tender, and packed with flavor (thankfully, not even remotely dry). A great experience for an authentic french meal with a few twists. We ordered the escargot, ceasar salad, beef tartare, and bread basket with cheese and jam as starters and these were all phenomenal. I loved the crunchy bread topping of the escargot and the bread with cheese and jam is simple but knocks it out of the park. I ordered the duck confit for my entree and wow it was stunning. The duck was so tender and the sauce was flavorful but not overly rich. My colleagues got steak fries and tuna and they all enjoyed as well. The only drawback was our server who had a bit of a stand offish, curt attitude. He seemed impatient and like he didn't want to be here, but maybe he was having a bad day. We had dinner at Chez Billy Sud in Georgetown and it was delicious! We had a reservation and were asked if we preferred an inside or outside table. We chose outside. We were led through the narrow indoor dining room, which seemed cozy, but a little cramped. The outdoor seating area was situated between two row house buildings and had string lights and sun covers overhead. It was very nice and at 7pm, about 2/3 full with other patrons. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, and astutely noticed the small gift bag we had with us, asking whose birthday it was (our daughter's). He gave us a choice of bottled mineral water or filtered tap water and recited a specialty cocktail of the night (something with bourbon; I zoned out because I don't drink bourbon). For drinks, we had a non-alcoholic "le gingembre" (ginger beer with honey, lime, and herbs), a Meteor Pilsner, and a red Bordeaux. For hors d'oeuvres, we had the betteraves and rillettes. Betteraves is a diced beetroot salad with lentils, walnuts, pear, and Roquefort. It was both surprisingly sweet and acidic. The sparse chunks of Roquefort added a pleasant tangy creaminess to temper the brightness of the beets. Rillettes was something of a smoked trout version of tuna salad except with crème fraiche instead of mayonnaise. Sprinkled throughout were trout roe. It was accompanied by house potato chips that were seasoned with a slightly spicy salt mix. These were good but a little too salty on their own. Spreading a little of the smoked trout mixture on top of these (as it was meant to be done) balanced the dish out nicely. For entrees, I had the pork loin chop and it was very good. It was probably an inch and a half thick and cooked just right throughout. It came on a bed of puréed potatoes and hen of the woods (maitake) mushrooms, in a dark sauce charcuterie. That sauce was so good it was mopped up with a few slices of the complimentary bread they have at the table. The red wine went great with this pork chop. I did hit one chunk of pure fat that I mistook for lean and had to discreetly convey it from my mouth to my napkin before settling it along the edge of my plate under the bone. The salmon and sea bass looked good, but I didn't try them. They must have been good, though, because my dining partners cleaned their plates. For dessert, we had a slice of Basque cheesecake with blueberry compote and the crème brûlée with a madeleine on top. Both were yummers and tasted as you'd expect. The restaurant automatically adds a 20% service charge (clearly stated) and I think the prices and service charge are completely worth it. I would certainly go back to Chez Billy Sud. read more

Had a super tasty meal at Chez Billy Sud tonight. One of my girlfriends suggested the cute French Bistro, so we gave it a shot. First off, the decor is very opulent with light green walls and gold trim. There are some lovely paintings that make it feel like you're in a gallery. The tables are rather close together - typical of a European restaurant. One downside of the place. It's also SUPER loud in here when full. There's an adorable patio outside - with a canopy and string lights - but too hot for the summer. I'm sure it's perfect in the fall. We started with the beets and lentils. It was plated nicely with a ring mold. The beets were finely diced and mixed well with the al dente lentils. I wish it had more Roquefort and walnuts though. It's such a classic combo!! Then, I had the duck for my entree. One of my biggest pet peeves is when a restaurant mentions crispy skin on their menu, but gives you soggy skin. They delivered on the crispy skin! The duck was fall apart tender. It was rather salty, but I love salt. The sides and sauce were also good. I especially liked the potato. We ended the meal with the Pot de Crème. It was super creamy with crunchy crumbled cookies, hazelnuts and whipped cream on top. YUM! I have to say, I've been to Paris and I wasn't impressed with the food. I've had way better French food elsewhere, including here! Just be warned this place is pretty pricey and they add gratuity to the check. My big regret is that we didn't just stay there. At the time the bar was packed and there are just too many stools at the bar. So, even as it emptied iut, it felt cramped. We went to the restaurant when the hostess fetched us. It was cold and the tables are alongside a wall. Service was severely lacking... but not for everyone.
