My pre-concert visit to this dive bar could have been better. The $3 well drink was served in a small cup by a bartender who was just accommodative and more interested in talking with her friend - not cool. I did like the classic rock background music (not too loud), the old-style jukebox, the few TVs and the three available dart boards. Limited parking was available. Overall, meh.

No-frills, straight-forward, not-here-impress-anyone, probably-offensive-to-some dive. I felt at home! Chez Charlie's has about 20 liquor bottles behind the bar (on the counter next to the register) and some beer in the white residential-looking fridge. Classic. There's a juke box, a TV or two, ATM (tho they accept cards), a couple dart boards too. There's assorted seating for diff types/sizes of crowds, from bar seating to small tables to booths. There's no kitchen of course. Drinks are cheap, vibe is chill but fun, regulars seem cool, and they don't tolerate hate, yay!

I"ve only been once (so far), but Chez Charlie definitely seems like a divey Cheers sort of place, in the best way possible. The pregnant bartender was as sweet as they come, managing the regulars sitting at the bar and the dart players with easy grace. If you don't play darts, well, watch where you stand. They're old-school, sharp-pointed darts, and on the Thursday night I was there, nearly every board was in use. Leagues started at 7:30 that night, but before that, you could play your heart out for free, using their darts. I was with four other girls who hadn't played darts in decades, but the regulars gave us a few pointers. It hides in plain sight behind a "Cocktails" sign next door to the Blarney Stone. Once you find it, cheap beers ($4 Boulevard bottles), lots of darts, and the coolest jukebox repertoire I've ever seen await you inside-everything from some modern stuff to Duke Ellington. It's totally laid-back, and even if you're brand new, everybody seems to treat you like a friend. Can't wait to go back, but watch out, my aim's not always good. P.S. A word of warning, don't park in Big Dude's lot, word is they tow, even after hours!

It has been on my radar for a while. I finally pulled the trigger last Thursday night., or at Chez Charlie's- dart night. Nerds, old farts and women with road map faces all getting down on the dart games. At the bar, a younger crowd pop's the top on cans of PBR. The bartender addresses the incoming customers by name and everyone seems to know each other. You might wonder why I am a fan. I might still be wondering too. It was raw, strangely charming and refreshingly unpretentious. There is a special vibe here. Dark, old and sketchy, it is all dive bar and all good.

I went over 25 years in between visits and it is still a dirty, cramped dive bar. Ya gotta love continuity! I used to shoot darts and my home bar visited here regularly for tournaments back in the day. The darts are still integral to the fabric of Chez Charlie and the bartender has changed but not truly in character. There's so many places that wish they could be as naturally unassuming and romantically un-modern. I expect it to be doing more of the same in another 20+ years.

Not the worst round ever!

I like the dartboard in the front best by the bookcase with all the playboys stacked up.

For a holiday happy hour, a few friends and I decided to check out The House (which is owned also by the owners of Lulu's, next door) was a great and very festive options--everything from lights to decorations (even dancing motorized Christmas figures!) to themed drinks. I had a cinnamon tequila sour that did not disappoint, and our cocktails were all spot on. I also learned that if you wanted, you can order food from Lulu's from The House and someone will deliver it over to you (if you're fine just chilling and don't want to walk over to Lulu's)! As for the location, I cannot wait to come back when it is nicer out because they have a large front area with heaters, seats, and just a general ambiance of chill. If it is colder, be aware that the house is small--so larger groups may find it harder to grab seats! I'm happy that I got to experience this place and it is definitely now on my list of places to go when I need a low-key drink! Thanks everyone at The House for a great experience and can't wait to see you next time!

This place is incredible--it's housed in the oldest building in Kansas City (built around 1850!), and you can really feel that history the moment you walk in. It's rare to find a spot where the past feels so alive while still being a vibrant, local hangout. I treated myself to an Old Fashioned, and it was excellent. Balanced, strong, and exactly what I was looking for. My bartender was super friendly and knowledgeable, which really added to the welcoming "neighborhood" vibe. Whether you're rolling solo or with a crew, there is plenty of seating for both small and large groups. It's the kind of place that feels just as comfortable for a quiet afternoon drink as it does for a lively night out with friends.

So when I rolled in here about a month ago for a happy hour with the gals I hadn't been in probably a decade. My memories of Kelly's were clouded by early 20s nights out in Westport, and my impression of the place was that it was usually overly crowded, filled with bros, and a bit dirty. Essentially, the kind of place I feel like I would have found myself in during my college years. All of this being said, I have a friend that is a die hard Kelly's fan and I was genuinely excited to stop in, this time as a person in their mid 30s, and at a respectable time, to see what it's like on an average Thursday. You know what? It's damn delightful. First of all, the drinks are affordable, the bartenders are super nice and laid back, and while there were a good amount of folks in the bar, there was ample seating for our group. We never felt rushed, and it was nice to go to a bar that was unpretentious and just felt comfortable to hang out at. We stayed so long I ended up grabbing some pizza from Guys (that'll be the next review!) and honestly I just had a really nice, chill, evening catching up with friends. Is it the nicest, hippest, bar in town? No, but it's a KC institution for a reason, and I'm happy to be reintroduced it as an adult, and to find that an old friend like Kelly's still has a ton to offer even if you are no longer part of the 1am crowd.

We ordered the lobster roll, Braised & Blue pizza, meatballs, oysters with caviar, and the chicken and shrimp yakitori. We also had a couple cocktails- Spicy Paloma and Pineapple Express made with reposado. Everything was flavorful and well prepared, but the lobster roll was definitely my favorite of the night.
