I've only ever heard amazing things about Chez FonFon so I was very excited to go for my friends dinner club! The atmosphere was nice but I heard there's a garden in the back and I would love to visit again and sit there! One thing that is a pet peeve of mine at nice restaurants is when the chair height and table height do not match so you're having to crouch over your food. Unfortunately that was the case at our table. The service was great and our server was very nice. He even brought us the sorbet which was very thoughtful! The food was very good. I especially enjoyed the escargot, stuffed zucchini, hanger steak and the basque cake. I loved that the basque cake was cooked to order so it came out warm. I've heard so many things about the hamburger here being the best in Birmingham and it was good but I wouldn't rank it as the best. Overall, good food and I would love to go again!

Tucked in on a side street is the best little French bistro in Birmingham, Alabama called Chez FonFon. This place oozes yummy... from the excellent service staff to the .. well food! I had to look up what the name meant and it loosely translates to at the home of (chez) and FonFon is an affectionate nickname.. which also means sure sure. The owners include a James Beard winning chef and his lovely wife and since 2000 they have been creating incredibly good food and fun. We were treated well and fed even better. A must stop for this foodie for sure!

Chez Fonfon has been open for forever for a reason. It's got everything going for it: a cool, chic vibe that appeals to all age groups, great service, and exceptional food. My mom and I came for lunch on a Friday to celebrate my late grandmother's 99th birthday. My mom got the redfish (on special) and I had the trout. Both were great, but the trout was the standout. Perfectly cripsed up with fresh green beans and tasty fried potatoes on the side. I would 100% recommend the trout, and it was a great serving size. We each had some iced tea and finished lunch with a slice of the coconut cake, which they decorated for grandma :). The coconut cake reminds me of my favorite cake of all time, which is an Italian wedding cake made by a family friend. Outstanding. I'm normally not a huge coconut fan, but still thoroughly enjoyed it. Parking can get difficult over here, but I do thing either them or the neighboring restaurant offer valet. I imagine it can get quite loud in here, but it was fine while we were here. And I rarely say this, but it seemed almost overstaffed in here. As in, service really was outstanding. I hadn't been here in years, but now I want to go back for dinner ASAP!

Chez Fonfon is an upscale yet understated restaurant in 5 points. I have heard of several people choosing this restaurant for anniversary dinners. We sat at the bar and I arrived quite before my friend. The sweet bartender surprised me with a delicious complimentary mocktail while I was waiting. The food was good, but giving 4 stars as the menu is very French so definitely not a "something for everyone" type of place. After closing out the check, my friend and I stayed at the bar to continue our conversation & the sweet bartender again made us complimentary smoothies in the cutest coupe glass. Would definitely go back (and sit at the bar again)!

Amazing food! The burger patty was cooked perfectly medium rare, like I asked. Best burger I've had! The service was great, our waitress was amazing and attentive. The ambience was upscale, vibes were good, and it was beautiful for the christmas time:)

Another delicious dinner @ Chez Fon fon. We started with steak tartare , asparagus and baguette! Not a bite left! Entrees ordered short rib. Steak frites swordfish special and of course the hamburger. The best fries in town! Sorbet and coconut cake to end the night! Fabulous service as always!

I was there with friends for late lunch and I ordered Trout amandine, haricots verts & brown butter with Potatoes and green beans, it's good but I wish it's not heavy on coating it's too grainy. Service is good and our waiter is very attentive, ambiance is okay but way too loud when it gets too much people as tables are too close to each other. Parking can be hectic but that's the way it is.

What a divine experience! I'm not an expert in French cuisine but I absolutely adored this restaurant. The ingredients were so fresh! Our waiter was knowledgable and the patio with the lights created such a calm atmosphere. Definitely a must try experience.

We were able to make a reservation for inside dining which I liked because it was a hot June Alabama day, but I would have preferred outside because it was so loud inside, there was no sound suppression, and the tables were very close together. The outside patio was nice and covered. Next time I will request to sit outside. We started with the sourdough bread which I highly recommend! There was enough pieces to have one while you waited for your dinner, and to save one to eat with your dinner. My husband ordered the deviled eggs and really enjoyed them. For our entree, we shared the roasted chicken. It was a half chicken with lemon, garlic, shallots and potato gratin. It was plenty for both of us. We even had leftovers. This is probably because of the appetizers and we had stopped for drinks at Cayo Coco before dinner. We usually skip dessert, but my husband really wanted to try the chocolate custard, bittersweet chocolate custard with chantilly cream. The presentation was beautiful. I had a couple of bites and it also tasted amazing. Our waiter recommended a dessert wine that paired with the custard. He let us try a couple of sips, and the sweet fruitiness really made a difference. The service was amazing. We will definitely be back.

Phenomenal dining experience!!…read more Service was top notch from the hostess and host, our waiter and all of the runners. Attentive without being obnoxious, in depth explanations of items on the menu with great recommendations! We started with a half dozen raw oysters and the pork belly. Oysters were very fresh and the seasoned crackers were a nice touch. The pork belly was quite possibly the best we've ever had and we're slight snobs about it. The fennel and orange mixture was a unique blend that really complemented the smokiness of the pork belly, Our steaks were melt in your mouth good. Cooked perfectly! I wished I could've just taken a massive bowl of the macaroni and cheese home. The char on the broccolini balanced the richness of the macaroni. They were sadly out of the crème brûlée, so instead I had the vanilla and peach gelato, while my husband had the chocolate l'orange cake. The vanilla gelato had the perfect rich vanilla taste. The peach didn't taste much like peach, but the flavor was still good. The cake was light and fluffy with a great balance of chocolate and orange. The candied orange peel on top was a nice touch! The atmosphere is pretty busy so it was louder than I was expecting. It's spectacular every time. The rotating menu keeps things fresh and interesting, and every dish we've had has been thoughtfully prepared and consistently excellent. The kitchen is clearly doing something special and it's a big reason we keep coming back. This visit, however, the service was unusually slow. Our dinner lasted about two hours (7:30-9:30) on a night that didn't seem particularly busy. There was a noticeable lull in the dining room with quite a few open tables, yet it still took nearly 40 minutes between finishing our appetizers and receiving our main courses. The pacing just felt off compared to past visits. Valet (which I understand isn't directly run by the restaurant) was also a bit slow -- about a 15 minute wait to get our car at the end of the night. All that said, Armour House is still a really special spot with incredible food and we'll absolutely be back. Sharing this feedback because we've had such great experiences here before and hope this was just an off night.

We were there on a weeknight and were one of two tables. If you're big on ambiance, Reve falls a little flat due to its location in the Pizitz, but I wasn't particularly bothered by it. We had the 6-course menu with a cocktail pairing. The food was mostly good, but none of it was great. The dishes looked beautiful, and the flavor combinations were creative, but not always complementary. Of the 6 courses, only 2 were memorable, and it was because they were disappointing. The fish course was not worth finishing, and I wasn't looking for more of any of the other courses. The best thing was the milk bread, but it did not pair well with the condiment it was served with. The cocktails were better than the food. The service was also mid. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, but the pacing of the meal was off. We had long waits between some courses-- not exorbitantly, but we chose the 6-course because we DIDNT want a 3+ hour meal on a weeknight. We also preordered a soufflé when we first arrived, since they take some time to prepare. Despite that, our server waited until we were finished eating to order it. It took FOREVER to get, and wouldn't you know, it was overcooked. All in all, it was an above average meal, but for the price it did not rise to the level of other fine dining experiences. IMO, the Michelin hype is resulting in high expectations for Reve, but the execution isn't quite there.
