Try the mussels, worth a visit. If you like genuine French cuisine, you must give Michel a try.

This was a return visit on a cold rainy night. The restaurant was busy and we didn't make a reservation but was accommodated. Middle of the week but it was busy. The menu appeared to be the same but there were several specials for the evening. The food came but for some reason was not exciting. The taste was fine but each bite did not evoke the desire to have another. We finished the dinner and left a bit disappointed as our expectation was high.

I haven't been to Five Sails Restaurant since it was taken over by the Glowbal Group back in 2020…read more My wife and I went for special group celebration. It was so long ago that I last went, I don't remember what the placed looked like. But what I do remember was the fantastic views over the water and immediate surroundings, and that continues to be a big draw. We had a private corner of the restaurant for the event, and were given a group menu. I ended up trying the Hand Cut Beef Tartare, Burrata Cheese, Sablefish and Beef Tenderloin, and I have the same comment for each of them - all classically prepared focusing on simple ingredients, simple preparation and nicely plated. These dishes are timeless, and I feel that these are same fine-dining dishes that have existed i. high end restaurants in Vancouver from 30 years ago. That's not a bad thing, because they will always please the palate, but in the same vein, not as memorable either. It was actually the desserts that stood out for me, because they were less traditional and more of a surprise. Service was spot-on. We had a dedicated server for our table and she was attentive, friendly and professional. She was everything you would want in fine-dining restaurant. Overall a nice meal. I don't think you can have a bad meal here, but haven eaten at a lot of fine-dining restaurants , I know the dishes won't stand out in my memory either. But the view will, and that's the main reason one would go here.

The food was very tasty and honestly reflective of the chef's award-winning status. Service (1/1): Service was impressive. The meal outside of Dine Out season was quite an experience--there was a wine pairing that was served in a dark, opaque glass, which forced me to use my nose and taste buds to try and figure out what wine it was. Ambiance: The ambiance was elegant and quite suitable for the meal. Would I come here again: Yes

The dishes were simple and classic but I think they were nicely executed. Mussels were fresh and the cream sauce was not oily. Duck confit with lentils are classic pairing but done well. Duck was not salty. French fries seasoned well. The star was the pomme dauphine, hot, rich, cheesy but not heavy. French cooking done well. Treated ourselves with a lemon tart but it was not what we imagined. This was more of a family style tart with great pastry, set cream, and poached pears. The flavours and textures were amazing and balanced. Glad we splurged on the dessert.

Interestingly the steak tartare was in chunks and not grinded which was welcome for me Chocolate nousse- okay but I would pass next time Fries and salad came with each dish. The fried are so addicting and morrish. A bit of old oil flavour which is understandable considering the amount they are frying. It's not crispy but instead very potatoey. The sauce that it comes with (like mayo) went so well with it. Could eats lots of it. Salad was also a welcome addition to make it feel a bit healthier Overall great little French lunch spot
