The Parisian sandwich and thin fries were ultra good. Best ham ever. Not salty and complex flavours, meaty. Too bad can't buy this anywhere unless imported. The French Onion Soup was well balanced. Rich, savory, the aroma draws you in, offset by the warmth from the spice. It is a soup that you can never get enough of. This was done very well. Duck Leg Cassoulet Stew had a great texture and flavour profile. Would have been nice if there is toast or baguette to go with it. Only criticism is it is awfully small for a main dish. And the duck leg is only half of what we normally get from a duck confit. Which was surprising. read more

Star items : French Onion Soup ... this alone can be the reason for me to drive here from Richmond! The rich broth is fully infused with the sweetness of caramelized onion, which blended seamlessly with the beef broth! Very hearty and I would indulge myself with extra cheese! Oh why not!? Braised Lamb Shank ... tender and very rich with the sauce that it was bath in ... the Chef was able to elevate this classic dish several levels up! Service is always attentive and friendly, too bad driving from Richmond limited my alcohol intake as I really love to try out more of their Cocktails! read more

Found this cute French inspired cafe when we were out running errands in the neighborhood. This place is on OpenTable so if you want to secure a seat, I highly suggest doing so. As it was quite packed around noon. I had the Quiche of the day which ended up being an asparagus/ bacon/cheese combo. True to its categorization, it was a light bite. It wasn't warmed quite as thoroughly as I would have liked as parts were still a bit cold. The taste and crust itself was satisfying. My partner had the Croque Monsieur which he enjoyed and said it was a close resemblance to what he remembers from our travels to France. Definitely cheese heavy. We also ordered a Latte & a Cortado. No fancy latte art and if it was intended to be, it did not come out well presented. No real complaints on the latte. Their mains are something I'd return for as some other diners had some delicious looking plates in front of them. read more

another foodie adventure with a - this time near my hood! a very demure, cute french-inspired west coast restaurant - there's the cutest portrait of a cat in a tuxedo. we were seated quickly as we have a reso and all the servers were very attentive. there was one girl that was always able to catch my eye when i needed her - props to her for that we decided to do wine this time instead of cocktails - i did end the night with a french 75. we found the bestest bc merlot from intersection winery - alluvia is the name in case anyone is interested. for food, we shared everything. for appies, we had the seared scallops and the french onion soup. we thoroughly enjoyed the seared scallops - the scallops were done perfectly and i loved the apple celiac slaw. the chorizo also added a nice kick to the dish. the french onion soup was a bit lacklustre - the onion flavour wasn't as strong as we'd like and it wasn't hot enough. then for mains, we had the west coast risotto and the beef bourguignon. the west coast risotto is essentially a seafood risotto - we loved the seaweed on the bottom cuz it added a nice umami flavour to the risotto. the beef bourguignon was definitely the highlight of the night - the richness of the red wine sauce, the beef was very soft and the perfect mashed potatoes. we loved the sauce so much that we ordered a side of bread to soak up the sauce. all in all, an excellent dinner and i'd love to come back and try the brunch service read more

Welcoming guests at the front door and seating them at their table. A waiter greeted my husband at the front door then pointed to our table and expected us to seat ourselves. Not a great first impression. 2. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Turn up the heat. We were sitting in the furthest corner table from the kitchen, closest to the front door/window and it was very cold.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Other than that, we had a great experience and had a very kind and attentive waiter. I was excited to try this restaurant based on the reviews provided online but it was a disappointment. Our server was a woman who seemed like she was new - she was courteous and polite. However, while she was occupied, I flagged a server down to ask for some serviettes and he did not seemed pleased. Perhaps it's an isolated incident but I asked him for some water later on (again, our server was helping someone else and the restaurant was quiet and he was just standing there). Received the same type of response - you can tell that he was not happy. However, for some reason, when other people in the restaurant asked for assistance (he was not helping their table), he had a smile on his face and was eager to help. The food was mediocre. We ordered duck confit 6/10, mussels & fries 7.5/10, and their omelette 6/10. Portions were small and did not reflect the price. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Throughout our meals, it felt like the servers (minus the woman who was helping us) or attendants were staring at us - and we were not at all loud but just having a normal conversation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Is it because we were Asians? It certainly felt that way, which may seem presumptuous but sadly, when the three of us left the restaurant we all came to that conclusion. Just discovered Mereon! First visit to Mereon-it was absolutely amazing! We tried the Mèreon Salad ( blue cheese, pear, caramelized walnuts, buttermilk pistou dressing sat in Belgium endive) along with the Chicken Liver Mousse grape chutney, cornichons, pickled pearl onions, coffee bread toast and the French onion soup. The wine list was well chosen with a variety of signature cocktails. Everything was prepared and served to perfection! The best French onion soup I've had in years and the chicken liver mouse was outstanding! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Apparently there is live music on Wednesday and Sunday (starting at 6:15).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff were lovely, and the atmosphere was relaxing (French cafe' with a west coast feel).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Mereon will become a favourite brunch/lunch and dinner restaurant! I don't live on the north shore so I rely on Yelp to help me find good restaurants to try. Today we tried Mereon. There is plenty of street parking right out in front, and if you are not lucky within a block or two there are lots of options. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We made a reservation to sit at the bar. We like this perch since we like to get a glimpse of what is going on in the kitchen. We had a good view behind the bar[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The open window into the kitchen gives only a peek into the kitchen and while we could see lots of activity, the window does not afford a view of the food being prepared[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. It was lunchtime so we ordered a cassoulet and a salmon eggs Bennie. Both were excellent and we cleaned our plates feeling full, and content with the size of the portions. Prices were reasonable. I asked for coffee when I arrived but they only serve espresso. Gentleman advised he had a lovely mint and something tea which I declined as I don't care for mint. My chorizo brunch was an almost complete disappointment to be polite. The chorizo was more spicy than I have encountered in the past so was offered smoked salmon as a substitute which was tasteless. The brioche toast crumbled and was topped with some unknown substance I found unpalatable. The only part of the brunch I could manage to eat were the eggs. Half way through the meal I finally asked for a tea menu since no one realized I had only water. Plain orange pekoe would have been fine but again, there was no tea I wanted. No one apologized or thought to compensate for a meal left almost unconsumed. My review is never again. read more

This is my seventh visit to Mereon since the restaurant opened its doors in West Vancouver, but my first evening dining experience, and a special occasion to celebrate a thirtieth wedding anniversary. Mereon did not disappoint and provided the same high level of cuisine and service that I experienced on previous visits. My wife and I shared the foie gras terrine which was delicious. It was accompanied by a delectable muscat infused gelee and pickled shredded enoki mushrooms with brioche slices. We enjoyed the foie gras terrine so much that we ordered a second serving. I had the bouef bourguignon which was delicious, full of flavour and served in the traditional manner. My wife ordered the steak au poivre, a favourite of hers, which she reported was tender and as good as any steak au poivre we have enjoyed in fine dining restaurants in France and Belgium. The meal concluded with a delicious chocolate fondant which was surprisingly light with just the right level of sweetness.
