Had our business lunch here. The service was really attentive. It was a nice little hidden gem for lunch. The food was good and the overall space was cozy.

I came here with a friend who highly recommended the mussels and fries!! Let me tell you? It's my fav thing!! It was delicious!! The fries were super crispy! We were obsessed! We had it with a salad (not shown in photo). The place was small and quaint! It tended me of the cafes in France!! More specially the ones in Colmar! This place was beautiful! I'd be back to try more things on their menu!!

A delicious Saturday brunch in November. Cappuccinos, mushroom soup so earthy and deep, smoked salmon omelette and a few slices of warm baguette. It's been ~15 years since I've been here (not often in the area) and it's still a wonderful place for a great meal.

We miss France and Europe. We miss travel. I picked Cafe Salade de Fruits for my birthday dinner celebration. There were no other places if you wanted to enjoy casual French cuisine in town. Since the doors opened 20 years ago, Cafe Salade de Fruits is always in the top ten. Tasted dishes: * Escargots with Garlic Butter * Garlic Frog Legs * Mussels with Fries (regular pot) * Daily Special - Baked Seabass The food was fantastic and of excellent quality. We have eaten here several times and never get disappointed. It definitely is a hidden gem in Vancouver with AMAZING food and services. Cafe Salade de Fruits is a small but popular French cafe located a block west of Granville Street. It is part of the French Cultural Centre, and it is located at 1555 W 7th Avenue, Vancouver, BC. Food: 5/5 Must Try! Service: ‍‍‍‍‍5/5 Kids: 3/5 Price: $50-$100 for two (dinner) Presentation: 3/5 Parking: metered parking on the street Tips: * accepts dine-in or takeout with safety measures during COVID 19 pandemic. * opens for lunch and dinner with some outdoor seating. * recommends to make a reservation even on the weekdays Would I Return: Yes ‍

Yet another local gem that I wish I had discovered earlier. This review is based on a lunch visit with their lunch menu at the cafe. It's an unassuming spot with a decent patio just off of Granville. Inside May not have ac as it was a bit warm inside. It's very French from the menu, wine list and staff - to the point where I had to use my limited French language skills. Some of the staff however are clearly Anglo. The menu is on a chalkboard (at least for lunch) and a lot of the French classics are present - steak frites, quiche, mussels, fish etc. Service was great although it wasn't that busy in the second part of lunch (note they are currently open for lunch until 2 pm and it appears dinner from 5 pm). Prices were very reasonable and portions were generous. Small bread basket of fresh baked baguette. Arctic chat with perfectly executed beurre blanc. Steak frites perfectly cooked - I appreciated the peppercorn sauce - it wasn't mentioned and I didn't ask for it so you may want to clarify if it's not your thing. Everything hot, fresh and delicious. I would have liked the frites slightly crispier but very good. Didn't pay a lot of attention to the wine list - a smaller selection by the glass.

Came here for brunch on a Saturday. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but quickly filled up after we sat down. We didn't have reservations but would recommend that you make one to guarantee a table. They scanned our QR code and checked IDs and we were seated promptly on the patio. The heater on the patio is a huge plus making it nice and cozy. It's also nicely separated. Service was really attentive. They always checked if our food was okay and refilled water. We ordered the rillete, mussels with fries (regular size), french toast and a baked Alaska for dessert. The rillete was okay and was not something we were used to. Definitely not made for me but it was an interesting dish to try. The mussels were DELICIOUS and so were the fries. They are served in this pot where the lid is used for the shells. The white wine sauce was delicious and the baguette they give you in the beginning is amazing for dipping into the sauce. The mussels are big and juicy. The fries are very addictive when hot but difficult to finish since we ordered quite a bit of food. They give you a kind of mayonnaise sauce to dip which goes really well with the fries (although you can also ask for ketchup). The French toast was not bad. Very rustic style with the baguette. The fruit salad is definitely the star of the show here with blueberries, strawberries, melon, oranges, mint and dates. We finished our meal with a baked Alaska. I was very excited to see it on the menu as you don't see it often on menus. The outside was nicely baked and crispy. The inside sorbet was on the sour side so be warned. The fruit salad with the whipping cream was a nice addition. Overall would definitely recommend this place for food especially if you are in the neighbourhood. This is definitely a neighbourhood gem. I've been here a couple times and it's always enjoyable time. The food is good with no frills, service makes you feel like you are part of a family and the prices are acceptable especially in the times we are in. Next time I definitely want to try the breakfast sandwich that's served on a croissant. Peeked at the tables next door and they looked amazing.

Cafe Salade de Fruits is great place for bunch/lunch and have been here many times for that. This week, I had the opportunity to try their dinner menu and equally enjoyed. I ordered the special of the week which included a house salad with pate, choice of a main (I selected the fish of the day: sole) and dessert for $36. My friend choose the 3 course dinner too but selected the halibut daily special for $38. We skipped the wine as we were driving. We enjoyed our meals and I was very surprised that I received 2 fillets, instead of just one, over the risotto and vegetables. My friend asked to substitute the potatoes for fries and our waiter happily and cheered us on for that change. For dessert, I took the $3 update for the Baked Alaska and my friend stuck to the dessert of the day of a custard cake with cherries sauce. Both very delicious. A full meal with options to substitute for under $40 per person is a fantastic deal. Service was excellent as always. A very cozy atmosphere for a gathering of family/friends or romantic dinner.

Cute, cozy cafe with fantastic food. French cuisine at an affordable price and good portions. Can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu!

Price/quality (3/4): This is one of the few places in Vancouver where you can get non-fancy French food. The food here is actually quite cheap, though it's also a bit less tasty than what you would find at a nicer French restaurant. The fish (poisson du jour) was just a little less seasoned than I expected, though it definitely wasn't bland. Still, it was decent value for the money. Service (1/1): Service was friendly and effective. Would I come here again: Probably, if I'm looking for a simple meal and I happen to be craving French food.

It's very rare that I give any 5 stars. However, after my meal at Cafe Salade de Fruits I came in with a smile and left with a smile for hours later. The ambiance is romantic/intimate. There were a few larger parties around 7/730 pm (so it got a bit noisy, but it didn't bother me). The food here is very authentic and so are their servers. For appetizers we had the french onion tart with salad and the soup of the day (sweet potato). I would get the French onion tart again for a light lunch or as a starter-it fairly portioned, the flavors were rich and so delicious! For the mains my partner had the special, Beef Bourguignon (beef stew) with mashed potato and garlic bread. I'm not much of a stew person, so I can't fairly comment on the dish except that presentation wise, it looked nice and smelled pretty good. I had the duck confit which was delicious! In the past month I've had 2 other duck confits (Jules Bistro and Les Faux Bourgeois) and this was hands down the best one. Perfectly cooked and the accompaniments (mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables) were perfect. For dessert we had the creme caramel and the Baked Alaska. I've never had a baked Alaska but have only seen them in food network shows/cooking competitions...so I was really curious and excited to try one out. Since I've never had one before I don't know if this would be the best tasting Baked Alaska, but from what I had, I would order this type of dessert again. The sorbet they used was a mango peach and the meringue was perfectly toasted. The creme caramel was decent, but we only got it because it was part of the special set menu that they offered that evening (so for an extra $4, why not?). Overall, my experience at this restaurant was excellent. We both left the restaurant with full bellies (we didn't leave a single crumb on our plates), satisfied tastebuds, and thought the bill was fair. With 2 appetizers, 2 mains, 2 desserts, 1 alcoholic beverage, tax and tip, the bill was just over $100, which in my opinion was fair. The last time I was here was in 2013, and at that time, I thought the food was good but last evening, the food was even better! I will be back again for sure!

    NY steak

This place is a nice small place, nestled along 7th Avenue. If you weren't looking for it, you would walk right passed it. There is a small art theatre beside it. They do close early, 9pm, so if you wish to go here, I recommend making reservations and coming early. The service here is impeccable. The waiters are friendly, will help recommend a food item and drink that may go with the item you choose. They are quick and courteous. It is slightly dim inside, to give a slight intimate feel. I would recommend business casual wear but during the summer when the patio is open, then of course it's summer clothes. The food is really good. The first time I came, I had the NY steak. It was tender and full of flavour. I really wanted to try their aged NY steak but they ran out of it. Well my friends order the last 3 so I had to go with the regular NY steak. The second time I came, I ordered the mussels as that is probably their best seller. There are two sizes: regular and large. The regular is a decent size and will fill you up. I would recommend ordering the large to share. It usually comes with a white wine sauce but I added the chorizo and tomato to give it a bit of a kick of flavor. Honestly I love chorizo so adding it to my mussels is a no brainer for me. =) For dessert, my friends and I ordered the Baked Alaska and creme brulee. They do have a limited drink menu, which is mainly wine so if you don't like wine or want something else, they probably won't have what you want. They do have scotch, vodka, etc but none of the cocktails found at other places.

A nice little snack, although it would be easy to recreate at home. - Lamb Chops: Very good. Cooked just right, and the pepper sauce added extra flavour. - Fried Frog Legs: Very good. This was probably the surprise dish for me. They weren't just the legs, but the entire bottom of the frog, so the pieces were huge. The garlic, butter and chili flakes gave it a extra punch. The front of the house/bar area seems to be more vibrant colours with the bright pop of red which ties into the rugs in the main dining area. I'd probably remove the second rug but if I had to guess, I'd say red may be Feenie's favourite colour as it is a touch out of place. With Michelin stars making their debut in Vancouver only a few years ago, it seems that perhaps Le Crocodile may be gunning for a star as much of the Lower Mainland seems to be. The level of service is excellent; friendly and speedy, everything you could ever want. The food is elevated but has more non-french or fusion themes going on than before. The foie gras terrine topped with cherries is the perfect combo of sweet and creamy; the brioche really brings it home. The French onion soup is gooey and rich with depth of flavour however the cheese had a bit too much of a smoky burnt taste as opposed to a charred broil. The dover sole was perfectly de-boned at table side and my mouth was watering while watching. It could've used a touch more seasoning but other than that the sides made it so elegantly French that it brought tears to my eyes. I could have done with a touch less beurre blanc as it was almost on the verge of drowning the beautiful dover sole. The presentation of Le Crocodile's dishes are truly Michelin level. I thoroughly enjoyed the medium-rare veal with what seemed to be home-made pasta and the sauce that raised it to the next level. Desserts were great and although the mini chocolates at the end are no longer in a crocodile shape they do have a decorative gold crocodile made by no other than Thomas Haas which brings in the local vibes. There were tiny things such as the scratched bread plates, the loose tea on the tea pot lid, and a small fibre in the menu which are going to be the very difference between staying at this high level and gaining a star that will need to have more attention to detail. With all that said, I'd still recommend anyone who loves French cuisine to make sure to stop by this spot.

The food was very tasty and honestly reflective of the chef's award-winning status. Service (1/1): Service was impressive. The meal outside of Dine Out season was quite an experience--there was a wine pairing that was served in a dark, opaque glass, which forced me to use my nose and taste buds to try and figure out what wine it was. Ambiance: The ambiance was elegant and quite suitable for the meal. Would I come here again: Yes

I haven't been to Five Sails Restaurant since it was taken over by the Glowbal Group back in 2020…read more My wife and I went for special group celebration. It was so long ago that I last went, I don't remember what the placed looked like. But what I do remember was the fantastic views over the water and immediate surroundings, and that continues to be a big draw. We had a private corner of the restaurant for the event, and were given a group menu. I ended up trying the Hand Cut Beef Tartare, Burrata Cheese, Sablefish and Beef Tenderloin, and I have the same comment for each of them - all classically prepared focusing on simple ingredients, simple preparation and nicely plated. These dishes are timeless, and I feel that these are same fine-dining dishes that have existed i. high end restaurants in Vancouver from 30 years ago. That's not a bad thing, because they will always please the palate, but in the same vein, not as memorable either. It was actually the desserts that stood out for me, because they were less traditional and more of a surprise. Service was spot-on. We had a dedicated server for our table and she was attentive, friendly and professional. She was everything you would want in fine-dining restaurant. Overall a nice meal. I don't think you can have a bad meal here, but haven eaten at a lot of fine-dining restaurants , I know the dishes won't stand out in my memory either. But the view will, and that's the main reason one would go here.
