Excellent food and service. The mussels and French onion soup is my favorite. Also, I'm glad that I'm able to order steak for lunch. This restaurant never disappoint me. I'm giving 4 stars because I don't give 5 stars unless I'm in Paris.

Amazing french food!! Vibes inside were cozy and well decorated. Could be great for a date night spot or cute dinner with the girls. Our server was so patient with us and gave us the specials of the day. My water cup was also never empty!! The server also kept refilling our bread basket (the bread was so good haha). At one point the chef personally stopped by and asked how our food was! We ordered the escargot, mussels & fries, and the duck cassoulet. Everything was delicious! The duck was my favorite and would highly recommend. Escargots were perfect as well. The mussels were okay to me but still good! Overall 10/10 experience. Vibe were great. Food was chefs kiss. Service was the cherry on top!

Been walking past this place all the time and been wanting to try it. Finally tried it for lunch. The French onion soup was great, not too salty which is always the key for me. It also had that traditional look with the cheese melting outside the bowl. Service was prompt and friendly. Ambiance is clean and cozy feeling, it does feel like a French bistro. The meat of the burger was a bit dry but the egg was so good. Fries were skinny with the right amount of crispiness and crunch. Definitely will come back to try the other stuff.

Went here for a late birthday celebration for my dad. Overall the ambiance was very nice and very Parisian. We made a reservation ahead of time so we were seated immediately when we came into the restaurant. We ordered the salmon, the steak, and the vegetarian ratatouille. Overall, the steak was definitely the winner out of all of them. One thing to know before ordering the salmon is that the chef is very specific about how they make it. This means so changing the cook time or the fish temperature. There are two salmon dishes poached and pan fried. We got the poached one and it was great. I got the steak medium rare and it was perfect. If I were to get anything the next time I came back, I would get the soufflé dessert. It was amazing, crispy on the top and fluffy in the middle perfectly cooked. The orange liqueur that you pour on top was very strong through so use it sparingly unless you really like orange liqueur. I believe that we were being waited on by the host of the restaurant. She was very friendly in the beginning but was definitely very efficient and blunt. I think we were in the restaurant after the kitchen had closed so they were trying to clear everything quickly. Overall a great experience and would recommend!

I studied French for 5 years and really love the language and culture. I've noticed this restaurant when I've passed by and it was usually pretty busy. I made reservations online in the morning and it was confirmed shortly after they opened. This is a cozy French restaurant and it feels like you're in France with the music. Also a very down to earth atmosphere. I love supporting small local businesses too. Usually there aren't too many French restaurants so I'm glad this one opened up. The service was really good. The owners were very friendly. My Mom ordered the mussels with the fries and I had the croque monsieur. I liked the mussels better. The mussels had flavor without being too salty. We liked dipping the fries in the sauce. I would definitely come back to try different dishes. I want to order the escargot next time. Also there are specials every week. They have coq au vin, soufflés, etc. But you have to come on a certain day for the specials. They are listed outside on the windows of the restaurant.

We really enjoyed our birthday dinner at Chez Philippe. We had the escargot, which went really well with the fresh bread served. The goat cheese salad was really nicely sized and easily sharable among the 3 of us. My steak frites, which I ordered as medium, actually came as well done. My daughter's was suitably medium. I could have said something as they came by to check on us, but I didn't want to make them cook a new steak, so I said it was fine. So I don't hold this against them, but since it was served cut so the cook is easily checked, it would have been nice if it had been noticed before it was served. The apple tartin dessert was a little on the sweet side and a bigger scoop of ice cream would have been appreciated, but it was still good and the sweetness didn't overwhelm since we shared it three ways. Service was really excellent, very attentive to the right degree. The ambiance was homey and not formal - almost like if you were invited to the home of a friend who happened to be a French chef. We would come back again to try different dishes. My wife had the duck confit, which she enjoyed too.

Super cute French bistro that we stumbled upon, don't know how we missed out all this time. Chez Phillippe totally hits the spot with very very well executed French bistro classics. Many places destroy the beautiful core flavors of these dishes but the chef does a brilliant job of letting the soul of each of the dishes really shine! It was a beautiful day to sit outside and enjoy this great food with a nice beaujolais! Escargot - parsley, garlic goodness. The escargot cooked really well! Of course you have to lap up all the butter! Warm baguette and butter - fresh warm, in a cloth sleeve. Given shelf life of baguettes surprised they do this, but it was really well done. French onion soup - again excellent execution, deep flavors of caramelized onion, beef broth , baguette croutons, melted Gruyère in a clay pot - a classic executed to perfection Pâtés - goose and duck - both brilliant and different. Goose was my favorite! Steak frites - perfectly cooked medium steak, the peppercorn Demi glace was so good you'll want to lick your plate Strawberry and butterscotch crepe - it stole the show!! The butter scotch sauce had notes of toffee and caramelized in oven before serving. Finally a crepe worth eating in bay area!

It doesn't get much more French than Chez Philippe. The interior looks like it fell out of a French Countryside design catalog, pictures of the Eiffel tower adorn the walls, and the air is full of melodic accordion music. Even the menu features all the heavy hitters of French cuisine - or at least what American's think of as French cuisine; Coq au vin, Steak Frites, Cassoulet, Escargot, they've got it all. As a vocal fan of French Onion Soup (but too lazy to make it myself), we decided to begin our meal by splitting a bowl which turned out to be a smart decision because while certainly delicious, it was quite strong and very salty so trying to polish off a bowl on your own might put you at a disadvantage heading into the entrée. I went with the Cassoulet while my wife decided to go with the Steak au Poivre, both of which absolutely delivered. The steak was cooked to perfection with a beautiful crust and, in keeping with the French tradition, was more on the rare side of medium-rare. The mashed potatoes (a substitution of the typical fries) were wonderfully light and fluffy, pairing well with the acidity of the green beans. For as good as that dish was though, the real star of the show was the Cassoulet which absolutely blew me away. It was the kind of meal I found myself thinking about days later, looking up recipes and wondering where in the world I could find Salt Pork so that I can attempt to recreate this beauty at home. If you've never had it before, I highly recommend giving the Cassoulet a try. You'll be thanking me later. Overall we had an excellent meal at Chez Philippe and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality traditional French cuisine.

We had a wonderful 2026 Valentine's Day dinner at Chez Philippe. We'd been meaning to come to Chez Philippe ever since the chef gave our doggo a small piece of Iberian ham when we walked by sometime last year. For whatever reason our pup likes to drink from the water bowl outside Chez Philippe but from no other bowl downtown. He's half German Shepherd and half Great Pyrenees so we chalk it up to his France-adjacent lineage and sensibilities. He's not wrong - our food was excellent. It was a special menu so even though we know that our dishes are on the regular menu, we don't know if they were fully the same as on a normal night. My wife loved her French Onion soup and my salad was fine but unexceptional. My wife also enjoyed her Steak frites and my Veggie Crepe was excellent also. The Chocolate Opera Cake and Creme Caramel (essentially indistinguishable from a flan custard) were both fantastic. And we had a fantastic table right in the window. Lovely meal in a cute setting.

I visited Chez Phillipe for the first time tonight, and I can easily see it becoming a favorite. The location is great... Santa Cruz Ave in Los Gatos is a very pleasant place to stroll, and there is plenty of parking. The decor is casual. This is a place that feels special, without being stuffy or pretentious. The menu is pretty standard French fare. It's somewhat limited, but there are several specials. Service was fast and casual. The food was simple amazing. It's basic stuff, prepared really well. I had the grilled steak (bavette a l'échalote) and my friend had the apple duck confit. We skipped the appetizer and saved room for dessert, and I'm glad we did. I had the Gran Marnier sorbet, and loved it! There are no cocktails, but they have a nice wine list. It's a tad pricey, but certainly fair for the quality of the food and service. I should mention that I am on a low-sodium diet. They were happy to prepare my meal to order without added salt. (Many restaurants pre-cook their sauces with loads of salt.)

Do you have a wine list? Otherwise, do you charge a reasonable corkage fee?

Bonjour we do have a wine menu. We do not post it as it varies by week. We only have French wines (white, red & rose) with a variety of price points. We are more than happy to send you the latest via email if you would like. We do have a corkage…

Bonjour Lucia, the French Onion Soup has a vegetarian broth.

    Do you serve Cassoulet?

We had it as a special for dinner. He brings the sausage from France! The confit was shredded. It was different from others I've had. But it was delicious!

We came right before 5pm, before the kitchen opened so we ordered drinks while we waited. Husband was very impressed with their wine list, which is a good sign. He was excited to try different wines and it's awesome they offer half pours so he could try more. But oh-my-gosh. GET. THE. SANTORINI. I loved that drink. Milk punch, yoghurt ... it was so refreshing and milky. I felt like I was in south of France or in Hawaii, sitting on the patio with the slight breeze and plants around and quiet atmosphere. It was so yummy, I got a second. This is a big indication how good the drink is because 99% of the time I usually have my husband finish my drink and never order a second one...especially the SAME ONE. But omg, I need to go back to get another. I've been dreaming of it. Service was great. Esp since we were one of the only guests, they tended to us well. It can be easy to forget about the guests on the patio but their cadence in checking on us was good. Portion sizes for the food is quite generous. We're used to octopus dishes coming out really small as tapas, but they gave a lot. And I loved the fried kidney beans that came with it. I liked how the bluefin tuna crudo came in a light oil and not overly sauced or salty. Pork chop ... WOW. Huge portion, we were so impressed. Rich flavors, delicious. Boar pappardelle, daughter did her happy food dance so you know it's good. Al dente and great taste.

But hey, things might turn around. My steak was....not good at all. Can't remember the last time I was that disappointed w steak. Had to spit out a few bites bc I literally couldn't break up the meat in my mouth. Taste was simply bad. Service was just as bad. Never checked on us once. I had to flag the server down to get a second drink. And that was it. Never seen again. A terrible time, overall. Couldn't wait to leave.
