Cute dinner place and great location in Los Gatos with street parking and a small lot around the corner. I managed to get a spot during peak dinner time last night. Cool how it's located right next to Los Gatos Soda Works so we could just grab drinks next door after dinner. Design and ambiance was a nice blend of indoor and outdoor with plenty of seating. Lighting's immaculate outside with the soft natural sun coaxing around the redwood tree. Food's decent, not outstanding. Website says they're the same owners of Tamra, a restaurant that closed down a few years ago in Sunnyvale which we both coincidentally tried as well. The menu is actually pretty reminiscent of it. We ordered the pomegranate braised lamb shank, the confit duck pastilla, the date chermoula kufta, the Mediterranean trio, and a few cocktails. The unilateral thing that was missing from all dishes was spice. Maybe intentional, but the palate leaned into sweet and savory. The kufta was better than expected -- beefy, tender, flavorful, and great with the sweet & zesty sauces. The pastilla was the standout with fun flaky texture of the pastry and the nice warm shredded duck. The duck was seasoned well and was reminiscent of pork. The beet spread was fresh and light, the hummus was plain, the labneh was too loose imo - just tasted like Greek yogurt out of the container. Giving credit where it's due, the lamb shank was better than it was at Tamra. However, the flavors and textures all just kind of melded together so it lacked depth and interest. Had the familiarity of a basic beef stew. Onto service. Abysmal. It wasn't busy. Nobody there to greet at the door, wait staff just wandering aimlessly around, food's drop and go, took quite a while to get someone to take our order and receive our check. In a word, very transactional. If this was a pho restaurant or dim sum place, I'd be more lax about it but the service sure doesn't fit the market positioning of where this restaurant wants to be in. 3.5 overall for food. It's safe, uninspired, but very much decent. Gotta round down for the service. read more

Ramsey is our server and he seated us outside on the patio. It's so cool and dry here as opposed to Southern California today. I love the breeze and the mellow vibes here. The menu has a middle eastern flair and I'm excited about the roasted cauliflower and mezze. I love the music and ambience and I'm excited to try the garlic shrimp too! I got invited into a dinner party in this restaurant, the moment when I step in, I was bit nervous to be honest but I'm surprised the fact that this restaurant is very cozy and comfortable. The seats are comfortable as well. Service was great, they gave us patient to decide. I'm also very surprised that most of the food is not spicy at all (I have low spice tolerance). For the sides, there's so many ingredients combine together as a paste, forming a unison texture and taste, it was so good!! I also love the prawns, it's so juicy (down to try that again!) to be honest I'm not a fan of lamb but I love how it decorate. Finally the pistachio, it was amazing!! We had a great time at Dar. Came here for dinner with friends. It's a quaint place and literally in a building that looks like a "house,"which is what "Dar" translates to in Arabic! The server who helped us was very knowledgeable and friendly. The food is definitely what stole the show. The date kufta appetizer was absolutely delicious and the ground beef balls just melted in your mouth. Same with the lamb meatballs and lamb shank, just delicious! All of the food had perfect seasoning, zest for the marinara sauce, and great overall flavor palette. The only thing was that the food did take quite a while to come out, which ended up being fine because our group had more time to talk and catch up. We went for a work dinner. We ordered an assortment of appetizers and main courses. The food was good, but the service was very slow and weird. When we sat down, nobody talked to us for a while. We had to flag the waiter to order drinks, then again food. He left in the middle of the food order and we had to call him back to finish ordering appetizers. My wife and I loved our date night at Dar. This spot is well known to us, having been to Nick's and Eleven College Avenue many times befarrr. We dined on the patio rather than inside or at the barrr. We started with the Mediterranean Trio's 3 dips and fluffy warm pita, a dish we hold in high regarrrd. Are there good veggie entree options too? Why yes in fact there arrre! I had an amazing veggie-forward risotto that was not in the least bit subparrr. My wife liked her Confit Duck Pastilla - duck in a filo dough shell - which was good but oddly sweet, bringing a tasty touch of the bizarrre. Got a gift card from my family on Father's Day to this restaurant in Los Gatos. It was previously known as "Nicks" and I had visited it a few times. The place has been refurbished to give a nice and decent Mediterranean look. We chose to sit inside although the Patio was very nicely arranged. The menu is limited and contains good Mediterranean entrees. We ordered the Salmon appetiser along with Branzino and Lamb chops for the mains. The food was very delicious and the service was superb. I had their signature "Dar" martini and it was great. We ended with chocolate mousse, another delicacy. Even though we live in the Bay Area with so many dining options, it sometimes feels like there aren't as many Levantine or Eastern Mediterranean spots like this--so this was a really special find. We started with appetizers that were full of incredible flavor. The trio appetizer was a highlight--labneh, eggplant, and hummus--all paired with fresh, warm pita bread. It was simple, fresh, and so satisfying. We also tried the happy hour menu. The mussels were outstanding, with a rich red sauce that had a unique depth of flavor I haven't experienced before. The prawns had beautiful North African spices--my cousins loved them, though we all wished there were a few more The sea bass fries were another favorite--light, crispy, and very flavorful. I really wanted to like Dar. It's close to our house. We have had great meals at the other places that were there. Unfortunately it was not for us. Again individual tastes affect experience. I like my food with flavors that are distinct and big. The items we had here were good but not that distinctive. First the standout winner is the beet salad. It meet our criteria and was super. The mussels were in a flat tomato sauce. Very fresh mussels for sure. The sauce was thick and had little charisma to it ie uniqueness. Then ended with the cauliflower which again had so much potential but came back with a a very flat taste. If you are into more muted or subtle tastes then this is a winner. For us we like more expressive food, thus place missed the mark. It's close by so maybe we will try again after a few months. read more

Dar has been there for 3 weeks and I wish them the very best. Our experience was good and we will come back for sure. The start was slightly off. We were "greeted" by a glum older gentlemen who did not seem too happy to see us. Our waitress however was the opposite and very effervescent. The food was above average. The trio starter was great. My salad which came with fried goat cheese was good. The chicken pita was ok, a little on the dry side. My favorite part was the great middle eastern music they were playing. Housed in former cottage turned restaurant, and formerly Nicks, but they have extended the bar so it now seats more than 3 people, and they still have the outdoor seating with heaters and "enclosed " for winter. We started with wine, and the yummy trio of dips which were accompanied by fresh warm pita: babaganoush, labneh, and hummus. For dinner I enjoyed the lamb shank, which is such a treat and nobody quite makes it like they do in the Med. surrounded by a couscous medley that was also delicious. My mate got the ribeye, also delicious and accompanied by a plethora of special potato's. We ended with the chocolate mousse, and were surprised with a slice of birthday key lime pie, which was also delicious and authentic. Made me miss living closer, but I will be back as I need to explore more of the menu options such as sea breem, moussaka, and zahra among other things. Our family went to Dar for brunch/lunch today. Despite a reservation, we waited for 30 mins for a table. We then waited for another 30 mins to get any food. We asked our server for some pita bread while we waited and he shrugged his shoulders saying there was nothing he could do. The food is overpriced. The salmon was ridiculous - thin and charred. The manager misled us on several occasions. To top it all, they put an extra item on the bill. We are long-time LG residents. I would never go to Dar again. The food and drink menu here is absolutely phenomenal. The dinner menu is absolutely fabulous and I highly recommend the Prawns In Arak and the Grilled Rack of Lamb.
