I gave this a two for ambience and service only, which was good. The rolls and calamari were tasty but the scallops tuscany was absolutely awful. There was three very small scallops overcooked to the max, the tomato risotto and asparagus was overcooked and mushy, terrible for $39!!! My wife had whitefish and risotto, same story here. Wow! My husband and I were visiting the island for the weekend and staying at the grand hotel. We did not like the choices in our dining room so we looked on yelp for alternatives. This restaurant had such great reviews we had to see for our selves. It's was quite a walk but the scenery is beautiful. Tucked away In what used to be a school/university is a beautiful resort with a fabulous restaurant. The service was impeccable the food so delicious. The ambiance perfect. We will be frequent visitors when back in mackinaw. read more

We enjoyed a leisurely dinner there tonight. While Chianti's no longer had the early bird special, we enjoyed seafood entrees with excellent service. The salmon was ample and delicious served on top of a potato croquette. The red snapper was bigger on the potato with less fish than we expected. Since we ate early, we almost had too many people helping us. Beautiful view though and nice music in the background. read more

We dined here only because we couldn't get into the Woods restaurant. Got there on a Saturday evening, with a reservation, and clearly we didn't need a reservation. No one was there! A few couples outside and just us inside. Wanted to sit outside but they couldn't accommodate a party of 6 at the time we were there. Bummer. That being said, the food was really delicious, but the atmosphere was a bit stuffy for my taste. Very, very fancy dining experience. We we're dressed up but still felt underdressed. My husband and I decided to go to Chianti based on the reviews alone, and we were not disappointed! We did the early bird special - which at $23.95 per person for a glass of wine, soup or salad, and an entree is a steal! My husband had a glass of cab, wedge salad, and the semolina dusted whitefish which was all fantastic. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio, Caesar salad, and pork tenderloin - delicious! Not to mention they bring a tray with rosemary focaccia bread and baked garlic cloves with 2 small glasses of prosecco to the table as soon as you're seated. We were stuffed by the time we left, and our grand total was $50.77!! Can't beat that for a great meal, attentive service, and a lovely view! read more

While Chianti is definitely upscale and pricier than some other places in the island, it's a must visit! The dining room is beautiful and has a water view. It made me think of how long families have been dining at the resort. We were greeted with a glass of complimentary prosecco and our waiter and the other staff were friendly, outgoing and very classy. I had the scallops with a wild mushroom risotto, my husband had whitefish over lemon risotto and both were excellent. I rarely find creamy, delicious risotto in a restaurant. Throughout the meal, our glasses were always full and our waiter checked in often. We felt like the most important table in the restaurant under his care. Dessert was also wonderful. The chocolate hazelnut cake and the creme brûlée were lovely, but that cake will haunt me! read more

Overpriced food and terrible service. I went here with my boyfriend to have a nice dinner but we were looked down on for not ordering every expensive thing on the menu and a five course meal. The food was decent but nothing special and definitely not worth it considering the service. The wait staff made an awkward and rude comment about my boyfriend only being there to pay the bill. Probably the best meal we had on the island out of several upscale dining experiences. We didn't have a reservation but they managed to seat us - though I'd recommend making one so that you don't miss out. The atmosphere was nice, and despite a wedding in the ballroom, the noise level never exceeded comfortable conversation levels. The staff was great and totally professional despite being spread thin with so many events going on. The presentation of the food was magazine-beautiful and every part of the meal was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. They did everything right as far as our party was concerned. Pricing was on the high end, but normal for what we saw in all of the nicer restaurants on Mackinac - about $60 per person for appetizer-through-dessert courses and no cocktails. read more

Very disappointing meal. They did not have the wine we chose. My butter lettuce salad consistent of frisée and romaine ribs with a scant bite of goat cheese. When questioned, the server returned from asking the chef to report they were out of butter lettuce. My small, single fillet of branzino was served skin-side up. Plates were not warned, so our entrees were just barely warm. Only two desserts offered, and they were out of one of them. Hope they get it together before summer! read more

Excellent food at Chianti. The seafood pasta Brodeto was teeming with clams, shrimp and mussels. The sauce flavor elevates the seafood, not drench it. It was very well done. The roasted beet salad excellent as well. My partner had the whitefish which to me tasted like like a different fish to my delight since I normally find it bland. We were able to sample the corn, fava bean and bacon side that comes with the scallops. That's the kind of delicious, hearty food I could live on. Made reservations for door side table with a view and even then had to wait for 45 mins to get seated because of the screwup they did. No explanations or intensions to make things right. Ambience with piano playing was great and palate cleansing wine was wonderful. Ordering wine was a fiasco. First, the wrong wine was brought and the second choice was not available. The red Zin and Cab that were brought didn't smell or taste right. The manager tried to make things right and opened a new bottle to pour. Finally...the wine was good. The wait for everything was long, not explainable by the few people that were dining. Food presentation was good, but it all came out lukewarm. We dined here while staying at Mission Point Resort. Kids eat free if you are a guest of the Resort. The ambience was very nice with a piano player. We were the only people there on a Tuesday night at 5:30. The wait staff are very professional as you would expect at a "fine dining" restaurant. There is no dress code. We were given a sample of Prosecco as a "Welcome drink". Everything is a la carte and very expensive. We received a bread basket with olive oil and balsamic vinegar but no butter. It was mediocre. I ordered salmon which came with green beans and tomatoes but no rice or potato. Our bill was $100 for two with no salad or soup. I would have rather have dined at Olive Garden where the food is just as good but you get more and pay less but then again we were on overpriced Mackinac Island! read more

My wife and I dine at Chianti last night. For ambiance and beautiful setting I would give 5 stars. For service I would also give it 5 stars. Unfortunately for the food I would only give it 2 stars. The Mediterranean salad we shared was very pedestrian and uninspired. My enter was the veal piccata. It was unlike any Veal piccata I have ever had. There were two veal patties that were heavily breaded and obviously deep fried instead of sautéed. This rendered the veal very tough. There was no hint of a piccante sauce with the veal. The patties were placed on top fettuccine. The fettuccine had a slight amount of olive oil based sauce with a few capers. There was no trace of lemon or white wine in the sauce. My wife had the whitefish. It was bread an fried to a crispy crust. Then puttanesca sauce was placed over the fish making the crispy crust, non-crispy and soggy. The fish itself was tasty. It was served on a bed of lemon risotto that was quite tasty. The restaurant was quite expensive and the beautiful setting and excellent service could not make up for the poor quality of the food. All in all this was not a good value Oran enjoyable meal and it would not recommend it. read more

My wife and I love great Italian food. We were immediately greeted with a smile by the friendly hostess. She ensured that our table overlooked the dazzling lake. The view combined with the soft, live piano music made for a relaxing evening. The staff were attentive, ensuring that our water glasses were never less than 2/3 full, offering complimentary glasses of the chef's choice prosecco to whet our appetites. The focaccia bread with roasted garlic, olive oil, and herbs was delicious. We ordered the Brandy Alexander and Old Fashioned - both made to perfection. The Tuscan Onion soup was deliciously cheesy, though the proportion of cheese to broth could have done with a bit more broth. The Duck Pate was delectable and the portions of Pate were generous. The fig jam accentuated the creaminess of the Pate. Humorously, we ordered a vegan entree to share with each other. We figured we needed to make up for enjoying the Pate. The entree was Orecchiette and it was to die for. The mushrooms and baby spinach were perfectly seasoned and the olive oil complimented the tomatoes. Overall excellent experience. read more
