Chiapparelli's has been a favorite since childhood and for over 45 years. In fact, my husband and my first date was held at your establishment 10 years ago. But, my last two visits this year were lacking in flavor and did not taste like your traditional recipes I would salivate over and crave almost my whole life. Your salad, which you now charge for for about the last six months an I get why, served as a smaller portion, lacking the cheesy decadent goodness, served like it had been sitting in oil for sometime, served at room temp, and the iceberg lettuce leaves opaque and wilted from sitting out in the dressing oil for too long...gone are the days of the high mound of crunchy cold chopped lettuce, laden with garlic and worth it, with the decadence of a cheesy eggy dressing we all in my family would crave and die for. The chicken piccata served congealed, missing the wine and lemon flavor and both times ordered this year served cold once it hit our table. Side of pasta smaller portion than normal and sauce missing that perfect garlic laden flare. Eggplant parmigiana small in portion...literally 3 small rounds of eggplant and grossly tough and undercooked....and eggplant as an ingredient is cheap...why is the portion now this small? And lastly, the shrimp fra diavolo missing its infamous heat. To the Chiappareli Family, you are so close to being what you once were. But, somebody's finger is off the pulse and I can understand one bad night...but, a couple bad nights from soup to nuts has us questioning if we will return. Hello, My partner and I ate at chiapparelli's tonight New Year's Eve. I love the set up and atmosphere at the bar. The food however is a different story. I had the pescatore and my partner had lasagna with meat sauce. Both dishes tasted like they were boil in the bag meals. In the pescatore the little bit of seafood was like rubber, frozen meals at wegman's market are 75% better. All my partner could say was that it tasted like some pre-packaged meal out the freezer. I love Italian and this was a great Italian restaurant. I came here on a date on Monday night which wasn't too crowded. The staff were professional but not super friendly and it took a while before the person/host in the front greeted and sat us down but a minor issue. We were brought out complimentary bread with butter and each ate a piece while we decided what we wanted to get. We both got wine (I had a Riesling and my date had a Cab). I ordered the Penne Pesto with chicken and my date got the Penne con Vodka with chicken. They both came with an amazing hearty salad which for some reason (prob their dressing) just tasted so good! I loved my chicken pesto as well and my date said he really liked his dish too. They were both big entrees and after already eating some bread and salad, neither of us could finish them and got to go boxes. Great Italian food. 8 of us came for dinner. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Food was really good. I had the veal parmigiana, and had enough for leftovers the next day. Chip's salad is automatic with the meal, and was tasty. 2 children that had nice choices. Others had chicken parmigiana, shrimp dish, eggplant parmigiana, meatball sandwich. My husband and I came in on a Friday night, with a reservation. No one greeted us, but greeted the family behind us ...It was busy- and we expected to wait for food but what we did not expect was to wait 35 minutes for complimentary water and closer to 45 minutes for a sprite. The waitress did not come back to the table to refill water or ask if we were okay for over an hour. We ordered apps and got those an hour after we ordered- our entrees came out 5 mins later. (Still no drink refills even with food delivered) The salmon was dry and the sauce was tasteless. My pesto penne was so hot from sitting under the heat lamp that the oil separated from the sauce. Ambiance was the best part the building is old and kept up with. First and last time here. $109 later and had to order food from somewhere else because the food was awful. I would've given the opportunity to fix had the server even cared to check ... but the crazy part is the only good service we received was when we asked for the check .. promptly brought it and brought our card back. It's a beautiful place to dine. Excellent service. The pasta dishes are delicious and the pasta really tastes freshly made. So tender! We recommend the spinach ravioli and the baked gnocchi, which is so creamy it's almost like puffy potato Mac n cheese. Hard to explain. It's one of the pricier places in little Italy, but they do include salad with each entree, and the salads are huge. I wish they'd told us it would be a Cobb salad. More oily and bland tasting than everything. Did come with an ample amount of marinara sauce. Not good to reheat or eat later, it seemed kind of rubbery also. No frills great Italian family spot- I was visiting on business and decided to stop in and sit at the bar. There was only 1 waitress really working and she was very nice (and really busy)! She encouraged me to take my time and brought out their famous house salad in the meantime which is usually included with an entrée- so nice and delicious!! I also got a glass of Pinot noir as well. For my main I kept it simple and tried Penne Con Vodka. Seems like a really popular dish and it was good. Didn't disappoint! But wow everything was delicious, even their salad! Andddd everything is homemade with no preservatives, you can't any better than that! For starters, we ordered Scampi Nicola and Calamari and wow the sauce for the Scampi Nicola is something I could bathe in (exaggerated much?) no kidding though it was the best, definitely would order more garlic bread on the side to soak up all the sauce. Calamari was very crispy probably the best calamari I've ever had thus far, the marinara sauce was on the sweeter side but very light, I would do a combo and dip the calamari in the scampi and the marinara sauce because I'm extra. Our entrees came with chip's salad which was very well seasoned! Like man, what do they put in there that made it so good. For entree we ordered penne con vodka and seafood ravioli and Mmmm literally that was our first word Mmmm, it was that good! I ordered chicken with the penne and that was the best chicken breasts ever, grilled to the perfect tender and juiciness if that make sense. The ravioli was also very very delicious, it's nice and stuffed, the sauce was amazing. However, it is on the smaller portion size, only come with 4 ravioli but they're pretty big; not filling if you're a extremely hungry. Dessert was the classic tiramisu, and Mmmm so light and creamy and very refreshing. TLDR; Scampi Nicola all the way! Penne con vodka and seafood ravioli was delicious, honestly I think anything you order would probably be super delicious. Tiramisu is also a must. Also our server was very sweet. 10/10 read more

Had a great time with coworkers for dinner on a quiet Tuesday evening. Initially I was worried about finding parking, but a bunch of streets in little Italy have 3 hour street parking allowed without a parking permit. We ordered a calamari appetizer, followed by salads that come with all entrees. Our waiter was ready with entree recommendations when we asked, which was appreciated. I ordered the cheese and spinach ravioli that came with a red sauce on top and it was very tasty. The ambiance of this restaurant is very homey and welcoming and it makes a great gathering spot for family and friends. The salad was excellent. It was probably one of the best tasting salads I've had. The flavor of the cheese really permeates throughout and the slices of onions pack a nice punch through the cheesiness. The pasta was OK. It had a generous helping of vegetables, sausage, and sauce, but it wasn't anything out of this world. The shrimp appetizer was pretty good--the shrimp was soft, tender, and juicy. The garlic bread had a nice crisp to it. Overall this is a nice place to eat with really good food. You can look forward to that free salad that you get (which in my opinion, outshined the actual entrées and appetizers that we ordered). read more

Cute restaurant with the sweetest waitress named Ida. She's worked there over 39 years. The restaurant was huge and makes sense why we didn't need a reservation. Ida was very knowledgeable on the menu and recommended the gnocchi and fettuccine. We started with wine and they serve complementary bread with butter. Most meals come with the house salad. We got the calamari and it was cooked well but missing some seasoning on them and in the marinara. I ordered the Chiapparellis tour with parmigiana chicken, fettuccine Alfredo and lasagna. Food arrived cold; sent it back. I ordered seafood ravioli - it consisted of four raviolis with the least amount of actual seafood I have ever had in a meal.. The previous week I had a Chinese meal for $20 and it had ten shrimp. The pieces of seafood were so small in the ravioli, I doubt that even one shrimp was inside all four raviolis. This is a cute Italian spot in little Italy. They have outdoor seating and a vast menu with lots of yummy options. The food was yummy but I found it to be a little bit on the pricey side. I can't give this place high ratings. I just can't. I'm sorry. First impressions mean everything and this wasn't it... at all. We had a reservation for 7pm. Come to find out, we didn't really need it because it wasn't too full. We walk in through the door which appears to be carry out, so we go around the the lounge side door. Well, that wasn't correct either and were asked to go back around. Okay. We get seated nearly immediately. The next part really upset me. Our server. [Service] We were seated, menus were laid out by the host, and what appeared to be a bus boy brought us waters. We had three of us. Only two were brought and the third was asked for but never received. The server made eye contact with me and kept turning to other tables. Fine. I see you might be busy. When she finally comes over, the first thing out of her mouth was "Alright. Are we ready?" - - - - Ready for what? Drink order? Food order? Appetizers? or just a "Good Evening" would have been better than hitting third base when we just met! I said "we'll do just the waters for now as we're still looking over the menu for our drinks." Wow. Immediate turn off. Now, mind you, I'm 32 and the other two I was with are 28. We're working professionals and tip very well... or so I wanted to naturally until this. (I still did, though). This is what really got me. The next table that came in that she got was a 50+ year old couple that she just swooned over. "Good Evening. What brings us in? How are we? Can I start anyone with...." WTF. Where was this for us? I can assure you we were going to tip you more than them if we were treated the same. Whatever. It won't be happening again anyway. Honestly, some of the worst service we've had in quite a while. We did ask for a box to take some small left overs home. She took it, set it on a counter behind us, and we could literally hear her groan and toss our food into a box... TOSS it. [Food] Less than desirable. Honestly. Are we here on an "off" night? Did we just pick a bad night to be here? Husband ordered a tortellini dish which was absolutely lovely. Our friend that was joining us for the evening had the Penne Con Vodka which was apparently delicious as well. Then mine showed up. I ordered the Chicken Vincenzo. Check out the photo. I'm really impressed with myself that I didn't ask to send it back to the kitchen. THAT, is not a Chicken Vincenzo. This looked like a beaten chicken breast, thrown in the freezer for a week, pulled back out, breaded, tossed into the deep fryer, tossed onto a plate with some gravy and burned to a charing crisp prosciutto to accompany it. Seriously. I did ask for linguini instead of spaghetti to accompany it. The lackluster dish comes out and is placed in front of me. Everyone else begins eating while I wait for the linguini. 15 minutes later, friends are halfway done with their meal and I'm still waiting on the linguini. Server comes to "check" on us, and I tell her that I never received the linguini. She nearly scoffs, and returns with a bowl of SPAGHETTI WITH MARINARA!! What?! Whatever. I was at a turning point with the service and the food. Side note: the other two meals were tasted as well and they were phenomenal. Loads of flavor and absolutely delicious. Being deeply truthful about my meal - I plugged through consuming it as I felt bad if I were to have returned it. I am not a complainer at all, I promise. This meal is not appealing initially, take a bite, and it honestly gets worse. Salt EVERYWHERE. Also, the menu states: "Breaded Chicken Breast, Lemon & Wine Sauce (What? absolutely not a lemon and wine sauce), prosciutto (completely burned and TINY), served with spaghetti" What a sad meal for over $22 and completely messed up! Sad to say, we will not be coming back. First impressions are everything.
