Chiba is a really interesting place. I love the setting. They have multiple small buildings--one for eating, one for eating and live music, one is a bar, and lots of outdoor seating. If I'd liked the food better, I would love to come during the summer and take advantage of the outdoor seating. The service we received was almost excellent. Sadly, it seems they were down one bartender and our server had to pull double duty at the bar. He tried his absolute best to keep up and he did really well, considering. I did notice a few lost waiters offering food to people who didn't order it. I got offered a drink that wasn't mine. However, I do think everything ended up where it needed to be eventually... I was really confused by the menu. My expectation of a sushi restaurant, especially when it comes specifically to the sushi, is to have mostly raw sushi available. Of course, there are some rolls that are made to cater to people hat don't like that. However, I expect to be able to order most things as a roll. That was not an option for most of the traditional sushi...maybe all of them. And there were a good number of non-traditional ones that had ingredient and flavor pairings that I just do not associate with sushi and were just more confusing than appealing in the sushi format. We went with vegetable tempura to start. The tempura was mostly fine. I don't prefer asparagus tempura so if you're not into that, just be aware that it's there. I usually love carrot tempura but the carrots were not tender. They were crunchy. This is not something I'm used to, considering all the tempura I've eaten (I love tempura!). I went with the chicken katsu to play it safe. The chicken was great! Nice and tender. However, the rice was strange. It was served in a neat little mound. But the outside was hard and the inside was nice and soft--the stuff I'm looking for. That was not pleasant. It felt like it may have been pre-scooped and just left somewhere to stay warm. I could be wrong but that wasn't great. I was also a little bothered by the "Asian salsa" that came with my katsu. Friends, it is a slaw. A mustardy (not creamy), vinegary slaw/pickled cabbage. Our server, who was nice, didn't even know how to describe it when I inquired about it earlier in the evening. He used the words "mustard" and "Korean" to describe it. I don't see what's Asian about it. I will admit that as an Asian, I was a little offended and, again, confused. All that said, people seem to really like this place. It was super busy when we went and I see that there are really great reviews! I'd say...just be prepared. If you're used to going to sushi places out by the coasts...you're not going to get the experience that you're used to. read more

We loved the fresh rolls, very reasonably priced too, nice atmosphere. We didn't like that one way street in front with no parking. Went on a Friday evening towards the end of the happy hour, party of 6, including kids. We've been seated right away and received very good service and very yummy rolls. It would help to have the cooked and non cooked fish separately on the menu. Pretty good deserts too, the ice cream and tempura cake were very good. I'm pretty sure we'll return. read more

The BEST sushi you'll find in Indianapolis, though a little pricy. It's totally worth it considering the quality of the dining experience. This is definitely the BEST restaurant in Westfield and certainly a top finisher in all Indy. The food is superb, specials change frequently. This is not a cookie cutter place, it's original and artful. I think the only thing that tops the food is the people. The food was ok. I give it a 5/10. Beef short rib tempura was cold. Spring roll was good. Sushi was fine but if you want great sushi go to Sakura. The quality was subpar and obvious. The patio (heated which is nice) had a person playing the guitar (cool) but he had two huge speakers that made it impossible to think let alone hear what someone else had to say. The waitstaff is a joke. Slurring high schools kids that don't remember drinks or your order. Came back with each round to ask questions. This guy was the issue: greasy bartender/owner that used the Lords name in vain when we didn't pay him homage. Unreal. Probably not from here. Second time visiting. This time for dinner (first time was a lunch). If you want a table at dinner time, I recommend reservations ... especially on the weekend. Environment for outside seating is good (I've never eaten indoors here.) Food and drinks were great (yellowtail ceviche and a couple rolls). Live music on Friday night starts at 7pm which adds a nice element to the evening if you want that. If you don't, there's some outdoor seating away from the stage area. People sitting at the table next to us appeared to be eating sashimi in larger portions than I've seen before. I'm going to have to try sashimi next time! The only negative is parking. Hopefully, Westfield figures this out soon. They're making the best of their situation, but expect to hunt for a spot then walk about a block from parking to the restaurant. read more

We went last week for a birthday dinner, and they sat 2 10 tables (without a reservation) before us, and continued to tell us and other reserved parties at 6 pm the wait would be over an hour and a half. This is unacceptable in the indianpolis area for a larger reservation. There was no where else for our reservation to go at this point. If you are going to accept reservations, then you should be able to honor those reservations. read more

Went today for lunch and had one of the better restaurant experiences I've had during the pandemic. Met the owners and they could not have been more friendly. Everything was delicious. Gave us a free dessert. They seemed very invested in this place and made us feel special which is what dining out is all about. Do yourself a favor and go before it is packed again. The pics say a thousand words. I wanted everything on the menu but opted to stick to the happy hour menu where I ordered an eel roll, a tuna roll and miso soup all or under $12. High end sushi at a low end price. An absolute steal! The tuna was fresh and delicious. Beautiful color and the eel roll wow. The balance of textures and flavors when paired with cucumber was outstanding! And the miso soup? Wonderful! Not too hot just the way it's supposed to be served. Oh my gosh this place is awesome! We just ate our first ever meal there and will be back. The happy hour prices are great! You can get rolls for $3.00 until 6 pm. We splurged on the carnival roll, recommended by our waitress, and it did not disappoint. I also loved the spicy salmon tempura roll. We got the banana tempura bread pudding for $3.50 (also a happy hour price), and I wanted to lick the plate. Whitney made great recommendations and was super friendly. The outside area is AMAZING. The live music was perfect, it was a little chilly outside and they had heaters and blankets at every table. It was so wonderful. We came here for lunch on a double date this past Saturday and were very impressed! It wasn't crowded so we got our food pretty quick and there was plenty of seating. I got the chicken teriyaki lunch special and subbed the CA roll for spicy tuna, which still came with a salad or soup. I believe my meal was $13 for everything? They weren't that busy and had empty tables. Our drinks sat empty while we waited, and waited, and waited. Best Sushi in the Indy greater area. This is great quality, progressive recipes and really good vibes. They also run really great happy hour specials and the cocktails have a wonderful tiki flare that is fantastic! We love to sit in the back bar area, especially in the winter, it is very cozy. The back patio is wonderful in the warmer months to be outside with some shade. The service is great, the owners are usually present and food is always fantastic, cannot say enough good things about Chiba! read more

We discovered this little slice of heaven on a random Tuesday night and my gosh were we thankful. My husband and I moved from San Diego and have been trying for 2 years to find somewhere that has FRESH ingredients for their sushi. Not only does this place serve everything fresh, but it screams to your tastes buds how delicious it is upon first taste. They are very creative with their rolls, their hot plates and their cocktails! I am a big yelp fan, I trust other people who have taken the time to write about their experiences and I promise you I am taking the time for that same reason,this place will not fail you!! It is set in a quiet little neighborhood that you might first mistaken as a regular block, but come to find out it is a hidden gem, restaurants in regular homes! They have KILLER outdoor patio area and a hugeeeee private bar in the back! They offer lawn games and fire pits, live music on the weekends and special guests from New Orleans! We had the pleasure of meeting two of the most loveliest ladies who run the joint and even had a tour of the whole place! We brought our one year old daughter and they were able to accommodate her with a high chair and we happened to go on kids eat free night! We were slightly worried it might be to upscale of a place to bring a younger child but with the music and open dinning area it was totally comfortable. Our service was just incredible. My husband and I come from years in customer service and we super appreciated the time everyone took to make us feel welcome. We tried the Mardi Gras roll...ok that is a MUST, not only is every piece different but it has this sneaky bit of citrus that just develops as you enjoy it and sky rockets you away for a moment. We also tried the Encinitas roll, and my friends that salsa on top is better than any Mexican restaurant in Indy. Coming from San Diego this was a personal favorite. We were also very fortunate enough to try the banana tempura cake/pudding and it was just sinful. Totally worth the adventure to this hidden strip of housing. We are excited to visit in the summer! Ordered take out and took advantage of the free delivery they always advertise. I was told it "wouldn't take long" to have it delivered and was then quoted 45 min-1 hour. I agreed to that time and proceeded with the order. It ended up taking over 1.5 hrs to get our food. The chicken teriyaki and spring rolls weee freezing cold (we live about 6 min from Chiba) so not far enough for food to get that cold. The chicken teriyaki was very bland, it was like eating plain chicken. Overall we spent close to $90 for a very below average meal that was very late getting to us. read more

If there is one thing you need to know about Chiba's sushi or one thing you take away from this post it should be...YOU CAN TASTE THE DIFFERENCE! The quality of fish is phenomenal. Chiba hands down has some of the best sushi I've had. It's very fresh and the ingredients they use are unique. They had a spicy strawberry roll I didn't think I'd like, but it ended up being my favorite. The staff is awesome too, just very chill and during this time very responsible. I highly recommend it.
