The extensive menu has a wide variety of both vegetarian and non choices. I love saag paneer, but I don't think I've ever had tikka masala paneer (in most places in the US, this seems to be a chicken dish). Perfect spices, proportion, texture, and heat in both the temperature and pepper sense. Do be careful temperature-wise; I fumbled the plastic container while removing the lid, sloshed from some of the just-served dish on my thumb, and burned a spot. The food comes out like that, casually with plastic dinnerware. What these containers and trays hold could be served on china in any fine Indian establishment. If you can get past the takeout containers, you are in for a real treat. I accompanied my paneer with a garlic naan and an aloo paratha. Both were excellent and so fresh from the oven I couldn't touch them for 5 minutes. They offer a range of beers and soft drinks but selection is behind the cashier across the room and hard to decipher at distance. When I did spot right away we're both mango and sweet lahssi. I chose the sweet and it was delicious. The dining facilities are split between a large open well lit yard that reminds me of rhe Shed in Mississippi, and an air conditioned enclosed dining room. I chose the outside area which turned out to be a little optimistic with 85° Texas heat at 8:00 p.m. Winnie is not a town where you would expect culinary excellence. But if you are looking for a place almost an hour from Houston on the wastern side, it's a perfect place to stop.

The place has a fun, laid-back roadside dhaba atmosphere with plenty of space, both indoor and outdoor seating, plus a playground for the kids. The menu is huge, so naturally we had to try a little bit of everything! What we ordered: * Cholay Bhature * Gobi Manchurian * Chicken Lollipops * Butter Chicken * Chicken Curry * Tandoori Whole Fish * Daal Tadka * Fresh naan & roti Everything we tried was flavorful, but the Tandoori Whole Fish was easily my favorite. Nicely charred on the outside, well seasoned and packed with flavor. The biggest surprise, though, was the Gobi Manchurian. Crispy cauliflower tossed in that sweet, spicy and savory Indo-Chinese sauce--I honestly never knew gobi could taste that good! Definitely something I'd order again. The Cholay Bhature came with those big, freshly fried, fluffy bhature, while the Butter Chicken, Chicken Curry and Daal Tadka gave us plenty of rich, comforting flavors to enjoy with the breads. Overall, Desi Dhaba is definitely worth stopping at if you're traveling along I-10 near Winnie or heading between Houston and Beaumont. Good food, a huge selection and a relaxed family-friendly setup make it much more than your typical highway food stop.

The super Chef-Owner is a retired Anesthesiology MD who also holds a PhD in Food Sciences. And he does much of the cooking himself. Not inexpensive, but worth every penny ! Anything Tandoori or Masala will be great. Try lentil soup & buttery nan-gee. Great place for a quiet lunch. Spotless restrooms, easy parking, some shaded. His kids don't eat Indian food (that is poor parenting right there) so he rarely gets to eat here. It was very good. The service was excellent. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable and offered several recommendations. The owner worked the room and checked on us several times. You could tell that he is passionate about his restaurant and appreciated us as customers. I opted for the mixed grill and would strongly encourage you to do the same. It was a bit of everything cooked tandoori style. The stars of the dish were the lamb and shrimp but everything was great. The flavors of Indian food can be so complex and difficult to describe for me. The short version is that everything was rich with a super deep flavor that is really unique. Don't be scared if you have never eaten this style of cuisine before. It is truly delicious. If you are looking for a unique place to dine in Lafayette, make sure to add Masala to your list.

Priya puts a lot of care and love into every single dish and you can tell that she truly wants everyone to have a good experience. That said, upon arrival, we did wait about 10 minutes before the server finally came over to take our orders. This place is extremely understaffed given the demand so the food also took a while to arrive at our tables. We ordered the butter chicken and the yellow cauliflower, two dishes that were warm and flavorful but not completely transformative. The roti bread was also a bit underwhelming as it lacked flavor and puffiness. The naan was a little bit more promising but given the price point--left much to be desired. We also noticed that all drink options are grab-and-go but nobody tells you that when you walk in. (We figured this out after watching a few of the regulars grab their beverages from the fridge.) One high point is that the service was friendly enough and there was a complimentary soup brought out to the tables before the meal is presented. All in all, while it is easy to enjoy the samosas and hummus dips sold by Priya at the farmer's market, the dining experience of being in her actual restaurant needs a bit more fine-tuning. 5/10 for this one ~
