Friendly & fast service, great selection of bagels, homemade cream cheese, pastries/cookies, deli meats, & cold salads. Excellent breakfast & lunch options. Parking lot for easy parking.

I've seen this place for a while and finally had an opportunity to give it a try. When you first enter, there isn't any wayfinding, just an open counter with no particular queue pattern. The ambiance is not that appealing so I really hoped the bagels shined. Unfortunately, I think they fell flat. The crust of the bagel seemed stale and the interior of it had chew, but wasn't enough to wow me. The bacon is entirely too salty and the hash browns were dry, unseasoned potatoes. The time to get my sandwich seemed long considering it was just me and one other person there.

Check out the measly portion. WTH! Look at my old pic from 9 years ago for comparison

Not a good way to start the New Year. I went here for a sandwich and a few bagels to bring home. Look at my two corned beef sandwich pics, one from years ago and one from this morning. It's at least half the size of the older pic. It was mostly bread!!! So very disappointed and to make matters worse the bagels were not fresh, so forget about my old glowing 5 star review. The pics do not lie!

I'm not fully understanding a punch card I ordered two lox and bagel sandwiches at 26.72 and asked her to punch my card she gave me one punch on my card and she said you only get one punch for two sandwiches. So does that mean you get a half a punch for one ? When I bought a sandwich before I got a punch. On the card it says nothing of this.

I just recently checked out this place for the first time. I had lived in Wheeling for a long time and never went here. I don't why. I was in a mood for bagels and deli meat to make sandwiches so I decided to check this place out finally. Usually, it's ideally to go to bagel shops early after they open but I couldn't get my butt out the door until after 11:00 A.M. It was a Saturday after all...heheh! Once I got here, I saw the sign for mask required (no mask, no service) due to COVID. There were some patrons sitting in their patio area, enjoying the nice weather and their meal and some others inside getting their grub. I took my time deciding what I wanted because a) it was my first time there and b) there were plenty of options to choose from and I wanted to get exactly the thing(s) I was craving. I ordered seven (Cheese, Cinnamon Raisin, Everything (2), French Onion, Jalapeno (2)) bagels, four Ruggelah (or Ruggelach + other spelling variations) pastry (2 Apricot & 2 Raspberry), 1/4 regular corned beef, 1/4 pastrami, 1/4 turkey pastrami, Lox spread and Veggie spread. I wanted to try their Bialys too but the selection did not appeal to me. I figured since it was my first time, I make the most of the visit since I don't know when I'll return here again. The food is a bit on the pricey side but if you haven't had it before then it is definitely worth checking out at least once. I liked their bagels. I tried all but the Cinnamon Raisin as that was for my son. The flavor of the bagels was quite good but I wasn't a fan of their texture. The bagels were hard to begin with. Not sure if that was because they were made earlier in the day and then sat at the room temperature Or if that's how their bagel specialty is? The bagels did taste much better after toasting. Their deli meats like the corned beef and pastrami (didn't have the turkey pastrami as that was for my wife) were quite good. I got the regular kind instead of the lean kind. The pastrami was da bomb. It was quite flavorful. The spreads were nice too. I can't remember if I've had Lox spread before or not. If not for the hard texture of all the bagels, I would have given this place full five stars as I indeed became a fan after checking it out and would go back. But I guess I am more of a fan of soft yet firm bagels then just hard bagels. And after having arguably the best bagels I had at St.-Viateur, in Montreal, it's hard to not use it as a measuring stick to compare others (even if made differently) with it. Although, I am kinda embarrassed to say that I haven't had NY bagels in NYC in the few times I have been there. Anyway, I digressed. Check out this shop. It's a local institution where you'll find a good variety of bagels and bialys plus deli meat, pastries, sandwiches more. It's worth a visit.

My experience with this location was not good. We placed an order online. It was placed a little over an hour before the scheduled pickup time since I was heading to the suburbs for an errand and would pick it up on the way back home; pickup time was 8:30. My errand took a bit longer so but I arrived around 8:40 for pickup (at Once Upon a Grill; they must get it a lot because they pointed me to the Deli). When I got to the Deli and let them know I was picking up an order I placed the man looked confused, asked if I placed an order, then walked down and looked at something and said to give him a few minutes, during which they cooked my order. So the order placed an hour before pickup was 20 minutes late because they don't check their system. I learned later that they open at 8-about 40 minutes after the order was placed--but whatever system they use has controls for when to take orders and when to stop online order taking. If they're going to allow folks to place orders before the shop opens for pickup after, they need to either update the schedule for the online ordering system to not accept orders before opening, or they need to look and see what if anything has come in. Really disappointing because this made me running late for work. And it wasn't helped at all by the attitude of the folks working there. Not a sorry, not an excuse or explanation, nothing. And even with that indifference I was going to buy a dozen bagels and some cream cheese, but the guy just tossed my order on the counter when it was done without a word. So, I left. There are better bagels elsewhere anyway.

Today's visit to QUAD served 2 purposes.  As my AA miles were about to expire, I went on the AAdvantage Dining website to find a restaurant that is affiliated with the program, so that I could spend some money there so as to earn some miles before the deadline, in order to prevent my hard-earned miles from expiring.  That's the main purpose of me going to Once Upon a Deli! Of course, I went there also because of the food!  The deli was clean, and seemed very well-stocked and carried a great variety of deli food and ingredients.  The staff were very friendly and helpful.  I ordered the food to-go.  It was in the early afternoon, and I was delighted that they still happily made me an All American Breakfast Sandwich. You can pick any ways for the eggs to be cooked, and the kind of meat and cheese.  I had sunny-side-up eggs, sausage, and Swiss cheese (they ran out of Mozzarella cheese as it was already after one O'clock) on an all season bagel. There was so much yummy food!  The staff told me that they left the sandwich opened in 2 halves because the eggs were not fully cooked. That was pretty thoughtful of them.  I also ordered a raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese. It was toasted to perfection, with a nice crispiness on the outside, and the right kind of chewiness inside. That's what a perfect bagel should be!  It had a slight sweetness because of my fruity choices.  The bagel was big and was packaged very well. I read that people had driven long distance to OUAD for their bagels.  We are so lucky that it's only a 5-to-6-minute drive from home.  I will definitely come back for more bagels.  We will try more different items from their vast menu too!  Next time, it will just be for good food, and won't be for AA miles!

Stop going to the chain coffee joints and try a small place that needs us. I preordered a little leas than $100 worth of cakes, pies, and pastries so I grabbed some of the cookies to make it $100. The butter cookies are $33 a lb. Ouch! As soon as you take a bite they fall apart and crumble everywhere. The kids didn't like the taste and didn't eat any of them, a waste of $12. No prices anywhere other than the boxed goods or coffee signs. 4% fee for using a credit card which I get, but have it posted better. Couple small signs I caught over by the fresh stuff saying price tags reflect cash price, but yet didn't see prices anywhere other than on shelves by boxed stuff. Have prices posted. French silk pie was very thick and not very chocolaty. No one really cared for it, def would not get again. I looked back at receipt after I left and see a random charge for "open retail" for $3.12, no clue what that is. So was over charged for something I didn't get.
