I looked up highly rated Vietnamese restaurants and found Tasty House 1 in Carol Stream. This place is everything we anticipated it to be. The location is nice and has parking in front, inside is super spacious and had a relaxing and breathable ambiance. We ordered a family appetizer platter that came with all the delicious Vietnamese appetizers like: spring rolls, bbq marinated meat, fried eggrolls, grilled jumbo shrimp, meat wrapped in betel leaf, lettuce, noodles, cucumbers, cabbage, tomatoes, daikon, jalapeños, two dipping sauces: peanut butter hoisin and Vietnamese fish sauce. Another appetizer we got separately was the fried calamari which had a great crunchy texture, the absolute best! For our entrees I decided to build my own pho and chose tripe, rib eye steak and quail eggs. My husband got the spicy beef noodle soup (Bun Bo Hue). This is honestly the best Vietnamese we've ever had in our lives!!!! I'm so glad I found this place. Awesome service, food and atmosphere. Zero complaints everything was very fresh and perfect. Our hearts left super happy.

There is a separate vegan menu with half a dozen things on it, and other than the drinks and desserts, pretty much nothing on the regular menu is vegetarian. (The papaya salad, which is on the vegan menu, is a ringer: it contains fish sauce.) You've got your choice of various fruit lemonades, bubble teas, popping bubble teas, jellies, etc. Desserts include flan, Vietnamese yogurt, coconut jelly - none of which you'll be eating onsite as you'll be too full after your entree. Portions are on the large side - even the papaya salad is a meal. I got the peach lemonade, vegetable spring rolls and the tofu, vegetable and noodles, which turned out to be a soup, basically Vietnamese ramen. The spring rolls are tasty and come with peanut sauce; the vegetable broth was savory with lots of baby bok choy, plenty of noodles and cubes of fried tofu - it was even better with some of the homemade hot sauce, which I highly recommend. The lemonade comes in a bubble tea disposable cup and contains tiny pieces of fruit - very fruity, not very citrusy. Service was friendly and very personable, which helps if you're serving 16 people. All of whom were happy.

I didn't take any pictures of the menu but you can find it online. Parking is pretty easy. They have a good amount of seating inside. Food portions are more than generous. We ordered banh xeo, grilled pork tenderloin & shrimp egg rolls bun rice noodles, and pho dac biet. Service was very decent. It's family owned and run by a Vietnamese family. When we came in, there were a lot of Vietnamese that ate there. This place is definitely legit. Prices were very fair. I would come back to try more items. -banh xeo 5 - this is a huge Vietnamese crepe. The skin is crispy and it's filled with pork and shrimp. So far I tried Mr A's across the street for breakfast and it's a hit or miss it's good on certain dishes like the pancakes but not the French toast. This is my first time trying this Vietnamese place across the street and it seems pretty clean I did try to come here but you have to come here Wednesday through Sunday and I came on a Monday or Tuesday and they were closed. Right now this is my opportunity trying them and so far it's been a quaint and ambience on the declar if they're playing soft jazz music. So far service was pretty quick. Instead of the typical traditional Vietnamese summer or spring rolls I went for the Chinese side which they had shrimp shumai which is more dim sum I just ordered one it was okay. I ordered the pho with the beef tendon and it was a meh ok. I think it could have been a little more flavorful with their pho broth but it wasn't bland either. Needs more cinnamon. What's also unique was the fact that they kept their soup spoons and their regular spoons and chopsticks in this wooden box and then another peculiarity was you had to get the condiments of basil chili pepper bean sprouts and lime up in a tray versus for them to bring it to you. The line in the basil didn't seem that fresh which is why I was a little disappointed other than that it was okay. I don't know if I would come here more often but there are other places I tried that are Vietnamese in which the pho had more flavor and was better. I probably would come here for their dim sum

I'd rate it on par, or even better, than San Francisco's Burmese options. Service was much friendlier here, that's for sure! Tawk was a delightful host...making jokes along with dish recommendations. Sadly, we gobbled up the food before I remembered to take photos. D'oh! I highly recommend the Tea Leaf salad--a Burmese staple and a real treat if you haven't had it before. Very flavorful and just a hint of spice (don't eat the sliced peppers if you're spice-adverse, but we devoured them). We also had Shan Noodles (B8). I also recommend that. A mild to medium spice level and very tasty. Generous portions. Two dishes was enough for two though I wish we had tried the spring rolls or samosas too--we might have had leftovers if we had! The restaurant itself is inviting and clean. They did a good job considering the location in a strip mall. The lighting looks nice, and the textured walls add to the inviting ambience.

We were greeted quickly and warmly as soon as we came in. And the same lady who welcomed us in was also our server. Let me tell you she was absolutely incredible. She was personable, helpful, very welcoming and had a great sense of humor as well. She was constantly checking in on us, which is great, especially because this was our first time. You can tell from the pictures we ordered a little bit of food not too much and let me tell you everything actually turned out surprisingly delicious. I do find the Filipino food is a little bit of hit or miss, especially in the states. However, everything was delicious. In fact, we only had a little bit of leftovers and managed to clean the plates of everything else. This place is truly authentic. You can still tell that it's owned by a family, which I think is fantastic. The decor is incredible as well. But most importantly for me, which is not how photographic the places, but rather the quality and the taste of the food. One fun thing is that the café next-door is also owned by the family that owns this restaurant. And so you can order food and desserts from the next-door and they'll bring it over to you at the restaurant. I will do a separate review of the café as well. Another fun thing was that as we were on the way out from dinner, we noticed that they were setting up a traditional kamayan set up on a table nearby for a party of six. We had the privilege of meeting the owner and he helped tell us about their set up their pricing and also that quite frankly you can customize us any way that you like. We will definitely be coming here again, even though it is quite far, but this was well worth the drive.

I've repeatedly asked that they don't include so much rice in the chicken rice soup since it ends up more like wet chicken and rice, and yet they continue to do it. The flavor was pretty bad this time around anyway, so I will not be ordering it again. Strangely enough, the egg drop soup, which I do not normally care for, was quite good. So the quality varies, I guess. Speaking of quality, the vegetable eggrolls were over-cooked and dry, but the shrimp eggroll, which was part of a lunch order, was good. I also tried the fried rice for the first time and was not impressed at all. It looked like Panda Express fried rice, except Panda Express is better. Usually Chinese fried rice is much better than any chain. As for the main dishes, the sesame chicken and teriyaki chicken were good, but the broccoli chicken was just so-so. In the photos online it has a brown sauce, but it came with a white sauce. I'm not sure if that has to do with my special instructions asking to put garlic in it or not, though. I also asked in my special instructions not to provide utensils or any sauce but sweet and sour but they threw in hot mustard, soy sauce, and utensils anyway. So I still don't know if they can see the special instructions or just choose to ignore them. In any case, I will probably still order here occasionally since the location is convenient, but I'm not as thrilled with the food as I was in the past. That being said, they do pack the containers as full as possible which I appreciate as not all places do.
