I almost didn't write a review for this place because I've noticed how the owners make rebuttals that come off a bit shrewd and condescending to every complaint they receive, instead of handling the issues tactfully, respectfully and showing some customer compassion. Complaints are opportunities to improve your business and solve service failures. However, I was somewhat disappointed with my experience here. My first disappointment was that it took a week to get my computer back, which is not a good situation for a college student. I understand they had a big job to do with data transfer, but each time I spoke to them, they would tell me false times for when I'd hear from them next. (It took three days to even initially hear what the problem is) I finally had to call them myself to get updates on my progress (and a revised time for when it'd be ready). But, whatever...I understand they have other customers and my computer crash was probably a giant mess. Whenever I got my computer home and fired up, I realized that it now works significantly slower than it was before it crashed...which has never happened to me before with repair. This was probably the one effect that I'm most disappointed about. Another small detail was that they didn't even take the time to dust out my computer. Every other computer repair I've ever been to does the common courtesy of pumping a few shots of compressed air, since they have your computer opened up anyways. It's a small gesture that goes a long way, and I'm surprised they don't practice it. And furthermore, whenever I checked my receipt, they had copied my email address completely wrong from the service form, which ultimately makes me feel like they didn't care about me as a customer. One positive remark I can make is that they charge fairly for their services. I've had a lot of idiots work on my computer, who often misdiagnose problems and overcharge me for procedures or parts I don't need, but I don't feel like that happened here. Despite all of the mishaps, if I ever have any more problems during my time left here in Chicago, I will probably choose this company again because of their nearby location and the majority of other reviewers who apparently had successful experiences. I just hope that next time will be better. read more

Had to have my LCD replaced on my Toshiba laptop. He had a replacement screen in stock, and I literally had my laptop back not even an hour after I walked in. Way beyond my expectations. I'll say that I also appreciated that he gave more than just the bare information. He warned me that it looked like what he had in stock would work, but sometimes certain laptops have really specific screens, with a pin connector on a different side, or slightly different sizes. The only way to know if mine would work would be to pop it off and try to replace it. If it didn't fit, he'd have to order the part, rather than be able to get it done right there. Fortunately, my laptop was stock, so he was able to fix it right there. I appreciated the warning, though. Had he called me a half hour later and said "yeah, your pin connector's on the wrong side," I would've been a little miffed had I not had it explained initially. So, yeah, really excellent. Hopefully I never need a laptop fixed again, but this is where I'd take it if I did. read more

Wonderful experience at ComputerLand! My cat crashed my laptop - literally. Knocked it off my desk and cracked the case. Split open a gap between the bezel around the screen and the screen itself. The screen wouldn't light up at all. I was so upset. I paid $3000 when that thing was new! My usual computer guy said don't bother fixing because it's 9 years old and it would be too expensive to even try. But I love that laptop because it weighs only 2 lbs! A real computer, with a real hard drive and a real keyboard, no heavier than a tablet! I told my story to Aldi without much hope of getting it fixed at any price, much less a reasonable price. Boy, was I surprised! Two days later, Stephan called and said it was all fixed! He even tuned it up and cleaned the interior while he was at it. Besides that, he noticed the AC jack was bent and fixed that, too! Good as new! How much? $95. I'd never go anywhere else! read more

The worst experience is to be busy working and realize your computer is not on the same page. My Toshiba power connector was not working well. After weeks of wiggling the cord, it finally decided to reject it altogether. I scanned Yelp for a quick, inexpensive option and came across Chicago ComputerLand. What a blessing. I dropped it off at 11am, called to get an assessment at 3pm and picked it up at 6pm. Staff was very knowledgeable , gave clear explanation for possible problems and solutions and gave me tips when I picked it up on how to avoid further damage and increase the life of my computer. They are very busy so you should just plan to call them for a status update. Great service and worth the cost. read more

I spilled tea on my macbook pro and it shorted. I thought I was doomed. Friends told me I could be looking at a $600 job, and only partial restoration of my data, depending on what had been damaged. Enter Chicago ComputerLand LLC. The $50 diagnostic fee was waived since I chose to go with them for the repair. 4 days after I brought it in, I got my baby back for just shy of $300, and that's including the rush order I put on the new keyboard. Needless to say, I also purchased an external hard drive after this. read more

I broke my iPad 2 and brought it here for repair at a price of $120. I would give them a C on the initial repair - the rim had some divets from tool manipulation and the screen was not fully sealed. Fortunately, they offer a 2 month warranty, which they honored without complaint when I pointed out the screen coming unsealed. On the second repair, I would give them a B+. It still has some tool marks, but the screen is now mostly sealed. They used dual bond tape on the first try, which is not as long lasting, then added glue to just the side that was not sticking on the second try. It leaves an odd sensation of giving way when typing on one side but not the other. Regardless, this is fairly minor and my iPad was repaired in a quick, satisfactory manner, and re-repair was covered by their in-house warranty at a fair price. I would recommend it. read more

Dropped off my 2006 IMB ThinkPad T60p for a cooling fan repair and they not only had the part in stock but were able to replace it within 4 hours. Now, the price for labor for such a quick task was a tad high (considering it is only a $10-$20 part) but an acceptable offset for the speed to complete !! I also called around to compare quotes. My phone screen was cracked and they fixed it BUT after I left, the touchscreen no longer worked. After taking it back two other times to have them fix it, they said it would be fine and it wasn't. I took it to the apple store, and they said they probably used cheap materials which caused the problem. I ended up having to buy a new phone, so the whole process was generally a waste of time and money. read more

I found Aldi's ad on Craigslist about 3 months ago , and i decided to give him a call. He was very nice and professional on the phone, and his rates were fantastic. Within 40 minutes of calling him, he arrived at my place and was working on my computer. The price he quoted me to fix my computer was spot on, and not a cent more. I had my computer fixed there and had mixed experience. So at first they told me my computer was going to be done a few days. But when I called to check if it was ready it still was not ready. Finally when it was ready I went to pick it up. When I picked up my computer I realized they had cracked the casing. After going back and forth with one of the repair men he finally agreed to fix the casing they had damaged. When i got my computer back it worked great but the hastle is still in the back of my mind. They did I good job fixing the computer but make sure when you take it there that they sign off that there is no physical damage to begin with so if they do break it, they are responsible for fixing it. read more

I wish I could give more than 5 stars ... couldn't ask for better service from start to end! I was having issues with my Dell laptop from stripped screws to error messages about the hard-drive among other things. Aldi and his team did an excellent job in communicating, trouble-shooting, explaining what the issues are and the options. When one option did not work for me, due to the fact I do not have the software for my work computer, they looked into other solutions to fix the problem. Dropped off the laptop and was ready to be picked up the next day! Top notch service, reasonably priced, fantastic hours, easy parking (there is 15 minute parking with hazard lights in front) ... Had an older backup hard drive that had a problem and could no longer access data on the drive. Brought it to another business and there it sat for 2 weeks with no progress. My desktop stopped sending a signal to my monitor. The ex-techie in my wanted to fix it myself - but after a month of putting it off I finally broke down and brought it here based on their yelp reviews. Whenever my PC crashes, I'm usually savvy enough to fix most software issues on my own. I'm not a computer professional but I've played with PCs ever since I was a kid and messing around with my Tandy 1000. This time however, I was having a hardware issue. I brought it into CCL and they fixed it for a reasonable price. Communication was good. They called when they said they would call and the system was ready for pick up when they said it would be. I was hesitant to bring my Macbook pro to a computer repair shop instead of Apple but am so happy I did. Computerland was able to take my computer right away and have it back to me in two days, which was so great because I was in the middle of taking midterms. They fixed the problem and only charged me a little over $100 for the wire replacement and labor. I know as a fact Apple would have cost significantly more.
