Aldi at a wonderful job on a tricking repair. My laptop screen became separated from the hinge. Whatever the hinge attached was a part that was not available. Best Buy would have said - can't be fixed you need a new computer. But Aldi was able to fix it, on time a reasonable price, as quoted. I had a laptop the batteries to which would no longer charge. A little research suggested the charging circuit on the motherboard was blown. I took it in, and that in fact was the case, which required replacing the motherboard, an expensive proposition. After the motherboard was replaced and I got it back, the shift key on my keyboard no longer worked. Again, research suggested the connection between the keyboard and motherboard was damaged. I took it back and they agreed to replace the keyboard for no charge. I was impressed that management did not seem to think twice about that. My guess is that they didn't make anything on the whole repair, given the reasonable labor charge and cost of the keyboard. Throughout this saga communication was excellent, and I felt I was getting thoughtful, honest advice. Bottom line: these guys are honest and understand the concept of customer service. My sister was having a problem with her brand new Dell Computer. She could not get the monitor to come on. When she turned on the computer, the monitor would display a "No Signal" message and then shut down. She had the computer sitting for a long time. Chicago ComputerLand was the second place I called for assistance on replacing missing screws from my laptop. There was such a big difference in the level of customer service. Regardless of how small it sounded, the missing screws was a real problem! They are a special size that I couldn't find nor have the right screwdriver for. Sorin was so nice on the phone and said he could probably take care of it. I went in, and he was really patient in going through tons of tiny screws to find ones that fit. Not sure if your staff can remember me. I was in Chicago around 2014-2015 and I brought my ASUS laptop to your shop because it couldn't start Windows. At first your staff asked me to leave it for three days but I needed to use it everyday and couldn't wait. So I decided to install Windows again myself, but finally, before I walked out the shop, your staff gave me a fast help by clicking a short-key to enter BIOS, which I had tried before but hadn't made it. Your staff did help me save a lot of time back then. I promised him I would write a comment in Yelp but I totally forgot. I'm about to buy a new laptop and now I'm clearing old files in the current one. I found my old daily notes and after took a lot of time looking through it, I'm here to write a comment and say "Sorry for the delay and thank you for your help". I took 200 pictures for a 30th Bday party and while looking at them got a notice that the memory card was corrupted. I copied all to my desktop and during that was presented with a huge window "files not found". Please format disk! These guys listened on the phone and said they can fix these issues, usually. I brought the card in and they were extremely friendly, helpful and un rushed. After looking I was given a quote and no charge if they couldn't help! A few hours later I had all my photos back and they even burned them into a DVD! Highly recommend. read more

When my Dell laptop stopped working, it was out of warranty. It wouldn't boot up, but would loop between two screens until I shut it off. I did some research, but couldn't find consistent answers. I was thinking that the problem would cost me way more than ComputerLand charged me, especially because they said it would need a new motherboard. I was happy when I picked it up and the price, including the new motherboard, was less than I could believe. What ever you do, do NOT take your IPad to these people to get the screen replaced. All I can say is I feel like I was ripped off. I paid them $150 to replace my screen and no less than 2 months later it is cracked again. No I didn't drop it. However, I believe that this company used cheaper quality glass because my replacement screen cracked just by being in my purse on the ride to work. Here's the worst part: You can get an entire new IPad from Apple for only a $100 more. Had I have known that information I would have just taken it to Apple. So I have paid $150 to replace a screen which was replaced with shoddy material to now have to do it over again because NOW Apple won't take back the IPad because I replaced the screen with this company. So do you see how this is bad? I have to find another place to replace the screen which will cost the same money so in all I've paid $300 when I could have paid $250 to get a brand new IPad from Apple. I need the LCD replaced on my laptop and found these guys' website saying to call for a quote to do just that. So I called, gave them the laptop model information, and they looked it up and said that it would be $150 parts and labor, and that they had the screen in stock. They could turn it around in 24-48 hours or provide same day service for an extra $40. This all sounded great, so I took it in. They said they'd call before doing the work. A day and a half passed with no word, so I called to check in. They said that the part was actually much more expensive than I had been quoted - a $350 part instead of a $90 part, plus labor. I said no thanks and returned the next day to pick up my laptop. Since my husband had dropped it off, I didn't realize he had also left our computer bag with it, but they didn't return it to me. When I realized out bag was missing, I called them, and they couldn't find it and said they'd have to call back. They never did call back, but I finally went back to the store 2 days later, and there it was. Plus, these guys weren't even polite. They barely grunted at me each time I went in. My computer wouldn't charge, so I took it there. The price was 120 for parts, and labor to replace the dc jack . When I went to pick up the computer it wouldn't stay on. So they said they wanted to keep it, and run tests. After the "tests" they said that it was my motherboard. I had no previous problems with the motherboard, so I took the computer to a friend of mine. My friend fixed my computer, and said that there was no issue with the motherboard. Also, my friend made note that they lost a significant amount of screws, and the jack that they replaced wasn't soldered all they way. read more

I bought a Mac mini in 2013. I first thought that I could not upgrade the memory or hard drive because in a 2013 Mac mini could not be upgraded. I discovered by clicking the Apple symbol and about the Mac that it was a built in 2012. I took it to Chicago Computerland and up graded the hard drive to a solid state 500 gb hard drive and added 8gb go ram from 4gb. This now runs like a brand new computer! Chicago Computerland did my other Mac mini a year ago. Both time they did a super job! VERY happy with their work. IF YOU BOUGHT A 2013 MAC IT STILL MIGHT BE MADE IN 2012! YOU SHOULD UPGRADE YOUR MAC WITH A NEW SOLID STATE HARD DRIVE AND ADD 4GB TO THE RAM! DON'T BUY A NEW MAC! JUST UPGRADE! I am very happy with the work done at computer land Chicago. read more

Horrendous beyond belief - I don't understand how this place has such great Yelp reviews (which is why I brought my poor computer here). I created a Yelp account specifically to review this place because I had such an awful experience. I had spilled water on my Lenovo Yoga 2 back in March and a couple of keys on the keyboard stopped working. I continued using the computer on a daily basis until June, when I brought it to this place to get the keys fixed. I dropped it off and waited for a call about the problem. They didn't call me so I ended up calling them after a few days. They told me they needed to replace the keyboard and it would cost around $150. I said fine. About a week later I got a call from them saying the keyboard was repaired but now the screen was broken (?!). They blamed it on the water damage (which, remember, had taken place several months before, and the computer had been functioning just fine except for a few keys since then). I was moving away from Chicago and didn't have time for them to try to fix the now broken screen, so I ended up having to go pick up my laptop, which now had a functioning keyboard, but a completely black screen. To their credit, they did not charge me anything for this (returning my laptop in worse condition than when I dropped it off). They said they would email me the name of the part they thought was required to repair the screen so I could tell the next computer repair company. They never emailed me, so a few days later I emailed them to ask what the part was. Their response: "We lost your laptop info as the order was closed. Here is a link from Lenovo where you can fine the parts and part nr for them." Completely useless. So I finally brought my computer to a new repair place in Boston, and this is what the (competent) technician here emailed me about the situation: "I checked the yoga 2. Whoever used to fixed it did bad job. Missing screws and broken parts. Unprofessional. I believe the screen is also damaged while they take it apart. To fix it. I need to order the parts and will take 5 days. Total cost will be $390." So to sum up - I brought them a laptop with a few broken keys. They returned me a laptop with a broken screen and missing screws that costs $390 to repair. read more

I Advice to NEVER visit this place. Find some better option around anywhere else. These guys have cheated me on my computer repair.. Got my 90 $ for virus removal when the REAL problem was - my harddisk was dying. WAY to make money. They were very rude and uncooperative. they took my money for NOT fixing my laptop. Not sure if they dont understand English or just pretended to not understand me. The worst customer service I have ever experienced in my whole life. After reading reviews and their website policy of 100 % satisfaction guaranteed, I gave them my laptop for fixing "Freezing issue and Virus removal." After Diogenes, they said it ALL could be fixed by just removing virus. The day I brought my laptop back home - was in the same condition. Virus was removed but my laptop kept on freezing. I took it back (it took 3 weeks cos I live 20 miles away from this place and my car got into accident). After going back to pick it up - they told me my laptops HARDDISK was dying so that's why its freezing. If my harddisk was dying- they should have let me know in the first time, BEFORE FIXING MY VIRUS. So Here I am. with 90 $ lighter on my pockets and 50 $ of gas for running back and forth and still with UNFIXED LAPTOP. read more

2.5 stars because of the quick service. I was charged 130 dollars for a graphics card replacement (65 graphics card + 65 Labor) But I have several points to make: 1. Although it's fair to charge a diagnostic fee, I think 45 dollars is excessive. It will of course, depend on the complexity of the problem. In my case, it just needed a graphics card replacement. They don't charge the diagnostic fee if you choose to fix it and they do disclose this when you step into the store. 2. I had problems understanding Steve because he has an accent, which I completely understand since English is my second language as well. There is no reason to become aggressive or yell at the customer when they ask you questions regarding their service. I always ask questions mainly because I want to know the source of the problem and most smart customers would too. 3. I've changed a graphics card in the past. Labor was $60. It takes no more than 15 minutes to change a graphics card. I hope they don't make 260 dollars an hour for each customer. In this case, we would have many doctors dropping out of school to get computer science degrees. If it's a simple problem, I'd recommend finding someone on craigslist. The service is good and efficient, but they are way too pricey. read more

My network is finally working throughout my house thanks to these guys. My wireless signal was weak to non-existent in our living room. I tried a new router, a range extender, a signal booster, and an access point hooked to power-of-the-internet. None of it worked to my satisfaction. I almost didn't write a review for this place because I've noticed how the owners make rebuttals that come off a bit shrewd and condescending to every complaint they receive, instead of handling the issues tactfully, respectfully and showing some customer compassion. Complaints are opportunities to improve your business and solve service failures. However, I was somewhat disappointed with my experience here. My first disappointment was that it took a week to get my computer back, which is not a good situation for a college student. I understand they had a big job to do with data transfer, but each time I spoke to them, they would tell me false times for when I'd hear from them next. (It took three days to even initially hear what the problem is) I finally had to call them myself to get updates on my progress (and a revised time for when it'd be ready). But, whatever...I understand they have other customers and my computer crash was probably a giant mess. Whenever I got my computer home and fired up, I realized that it now works significantly slower than it was before it crashed...which has never happened to me before with repair. This was probably the one effect that I'm most disappointed about. Another small detail was that they didn't even take the time to dust out my computer. Every other computer repair I've ever been to does the common courtesy of pumping a few shots of compressed air, since they have your computer opened up anyways. It's a small gesture that goes a long way, and I'm surprised they don't practice it. And furthermore, whenever I checked my receipt, they had copied my email address completely wrong from the service form, which ultimately makes me feel like they didn't care about me as a customer. One positive remark I can make is that they charge fairly for their services. I've had a lot of idiots work on my computer, who often misdiagnose problems and overcharge me for procedures or parts I don't need, but I don't feel like that happened here. Despite all of the mishaps, if I ever have any more problems during my time left here in Chicago, I will probably choose this company again because of their nearby location and the majority of other reviewers who apparently had successful experiences. Had to have my LCD replaced on my Toshiba laptop. He had a replacement screen in stock, and I literally had my laptop back not even an hour after I walked in. Way beyond my expectations. I'll say that I also appreciated that he gave more than just the bare information. He warned me that it looked like what he had in stock would work, but sometimes certain laptops have really specific screens, with a pin connector on a different side, or slightly different sizes. The only way to know if mine would work would be to pop it off and try to replace it. If it didn't fit, he'd have to order the part, rather than be able to get it done right there. Fortunately, my laptop was stock, so he was able to fix it right there. I appreciated the warning, though. Had he called me a half hour later and said "yeah, your pin connector's on the wrong side," I would've been a little miffed had I not had it explained initially. So, yeah, really excellent. Hopefully I never need a laptop fixed again, but this is where I'd take it if I did. read more
