A while back I locked myself out of my condo & was in need of a locksmith. *My spare key was in my car... my car keys were in my condo & my emergency key was also in my locked condo. I called around for about a half hour & found out A LOT OF LOCKSMITHs HAVE MULTIPLE ADS MAKING THEM ONE IN THE SAME! Ugh! I finally settled on this company. I was promised the locksmith would arrive in approximately 25 minutes & I did receive a computer generated text message repeating the same information. After about 40 minutes I called the company back wondering where the locksmith was... Did I mention it was 10:30pm on a Sunday night in mid January during that INSANELY SUBZERO WEATHER we had?!? I was finally out in touch with the locksmith himself who told me he would be about another 20 minutes. Long story short, he arrived a little after midnight, tools in tans & wanting to DRILL my lock out! He ended up reconfiguring the tumbles & I got in to grab my keys & he reset the lock. Okay... cool. I was in but to the tune of $480! Yep! $480! The next day when I got home from work, I put the key in the lock & it just spun & spun & spun some more. I could hear my poor dog whining to go out! Ugh! Called the guy, again. Waited an hour. Got back in & left my door unlocked to take my dog out. Got back inside & went to my unlocked door... it would not open! Called the guy, AGAIN. This time he drilled the lock out. I was out a lot of money, a lot of time & a lot of patience. Can't say that I'd recommend them but they had me over a barrel! Silver Lining... the guy was nice. *Moral of the story... DO NOT lock yourself out of your condo & DO let your building engineer take care of it! read more

th I'm extremely disappointed with the service I received from Chicago Locksmith. I had a terrible experience. I called them to replace a lever handle on my home, but the technician they sent was there to scam. Technician was inside the home for less than ten minutes and stated to the tenant that the repair was done. I never authorized this type of transaction. The company was supposed to replace the door handle with a new one. They never called me to communicate the repair. They did not fix or replace any part of the Handle. They charged my credit card without authorization. They manipulated my tenant to sign the credit card transaction that I did not approve. I called regarding the repair and asked why it was never fixed. The owner/salesperson stated that the technician was there already and if you want them to come again there will be another charge. They are a scamming company that are trying to charge people multiple times on service calls, and multiple service fees. Ultimately, nothing was fixed or replaced. They are a locksmith company and they cannot simply replace a door handle. The new door handle I purchased and that I had ask them to replace which was never done. I will never do business with them again. To make matters worse, instead of replacing the handle as I requested, they tried to upsell me on unnecessary services that should've been avoided. When I refused the extra service charge the employee on the phone got annoyed and became even less helpful. After wasting over an hour, on the phone they claimed it will be an additional fee to fix the same issue they went to the home for in the first place. To add insult to injury, they charged me a hefty fee just for showing up, despite not providing the service I needed. I had to call a different locksmith who arrived promptly and replaced the lever handle without any issues. I would never use Chicago Locksmith again - they're unreliable, unprofessional, and overpriced. Avoid them at all costs. read more

I have had to edit this review as they were deeply sorry for the miscommunication. They showed excellent customer service and took care of my issue right away. I hired this company to install new smart locks. The technician installed the new deadbolt crooked so now it won't lock automatically and said they were unable to fix it (and charged me another $80 for putting some grease on the lock when I called them back to get them to fix it). My old deadbolt worked fine without any grease. Wish I had called a competent company. read more

Not happy. At all. We came to this location because the person at the first location we stopped at--the one in Ravenswood, a block away--suggested we come here. So we made our way to this shop, and purchased a new double cylinder deadbolt and doorknob for our home. It was a plus that the guy who helped us said that he'd sell us the hardware and then we could set up a time to have someone come out and install it, as it would save a little bit of money to do it that way. Helpful. The in-store stuff was pretty easy and straightforward. We also were interested in a safe, but they didn't have any with both a water and fire rating. The next day, Wednesday, they called to schedule service for Friday (when I'm writing this review). The window they gave was 5-7 pm. Great! The problem is, they didn't show up until 9. At 8 pm, we called the shop number and the dispatcher said she'd have the technician call with an ETA. 20+ minutes later, we got a call saying the locksmith would arrive in 25 minutes. They did arrive at about 8:58 pm. But I'm really astounded by the fact that they not only arrived two hours past their window, but they didn't even contact us to say they'd be showing up at all. If they had called before the end of the window to say that they would be late, I wouldn't have an issue with it. But the blasé attitude, lack of care, all combined with seemingly not knowing what they were here to do (I heard my partner saying that no, we'd purchased the lock already and it was right there for them to install), just leaves me cold. Oh, and apparently they charge a 3% fee for credit card use, which we weren't told about. My partner still uses checks (how quaint) so we could have found the checkbook if we knew, but hopefully this helps someone to avoid the charge if they wish (use cash or check). I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

I would never use this company again. Each time I was charged a different service fee. This last time the man ruined my door in his quest to change the lock. He got locked in a room and had to destroy my inside door and then charged me the extra time that it took ! There are other locksmiths and I would certainly not endorse this one. read more

I never had to go through the process of fixing a lock, and was quite unsure how everything would pan out. Our smart lock's physical key somehow didn't work anymore, and we wanted to get it sorted out. I reached out to my broker, who recommended Chicago Locksmiths. I left an initial voicemail, and received a follow up within 30 minutes. Pro tip: my phone kept screening the call as "spam call", so sadly I have missed a few calls from them. The operator who I initially talked to was very kind and said she would be able to have someone come to my place that evening. I wasn't in a hurry, so that worked with my schedule. I had an entry knob and deadbolt replaced at my condo - scheduling over the phone was easy, and overall I'm happy with the quality of work. Still, feeling completely ripped off. Cost of materials and tax I can live with, but $170 for labor, plus $79 service charge, plus $15 credit card fee is insane. $500 all in. Especially frustrating since they only mentioned the cost of material and labor when I asked about pricing over the phone. Definitely shop around. read more

I'm here to add yet another 5-star review for this very well-run company. From my initial call last week which was fielded by a professional and knowledgeable lady named Jasmine, to the visit to our condo today by a competent and friendly technician named Walter, the whole experience was 5-star all the way. I don't have even a tiny issue to discuss that could have been handled differently. When I first called in, I wasn't even sure whoever was going to answer would fully understand my concerns. We had a 7-year-old programmable Trilogy lock that we had never fully understood as well as we should have. We had lost the keys, the batteries had never been changed, and we didn't even know how to remove the single combination we had always used, and how to replace that combination with other combinations. We did know we wanted to keep that lock if possible, as new versions of the lock sell for many hundreds of dollars. And we also wanted to re-key the back door so that it would accept the same key as the front door. Jasmine listened patiently as I rambled on about the issues, and much to my amazement, she totally understood what I wanted. She fully explained what the charges would be, and while I was still on the phone she scheduled an appointment at our condo several days out. I told her I hoped the technician would be able to teach us the programming we needed to know, and she assured me she was scheduling a senior technician who could handle it. And sure enough, Walter appeared on time today and was fully ready to address all of our concerns. He assured us he could accomplish everything we wanted to accomplish, and that's exactly what he did. In the end, he gave my wife and me a lesson on how to deal with the lock going forward, and we now know exactly what we have to do to use our lock with all of its features. And best of all, there were absolutely no surprises about the charges. The bill was exactly in the amount Jasmine had itemized for us, and for all of these reasons, I can enthusiastically recommend this fine company for whatever your locksmith needs are. read more
