Jerry, Richard and Alec arrived on time and took great care with all of our stuff. Everything arrived at the new place in perfect condition. Even a huge painting done on cardboard was delivered without a scratch, as was the 65" TV. At the new place, when I had to ask them to move the heavy bed again because I'd told them the wrong place, they said, "Of course!" These guys are friendly and hardworking. In addition, I emailed with Marie to set up the move, and she was also helpful and efficient. And all of this great service was remarkably affordable: Seven hours of non-stop work for under $1,000. OMG I don't write reviews often, especially after moving because it is usually such a nightmare and I'm cranky and exhausted but Jerry and the guys were outstanding. Nelson, Riff, and Jesus were simply amazing. These guys made our entire move painless and stress free as they shrink wrapped all of furniture thoroughly and placed all our belongings in the truck and at our new property without any damage. Equally important, they were so pleasant to work with as they were incredibly polite and handled all our small request with "We Got You" Amended Review: 6-11-2018 Some background to our readers. We moved on 4/25/18 and there were 3 wonderful movers who helped the process (see above). Our belongings were placed in the garage of our new house til 6/11/18 due to work taking place. For their great work, I gave each mover a $ 25 tip ($75 total) On 6/11/18, Nelson & Riff came back and moved our belongings into our house. These guys were very good as expected. Additionally, they volunteered to dispose of some items if "I took care of them" -I.E Tip ( Supposedly there's a charge) As such, I tipped each mover $30 ($60 total) and bought them lunch. I found out later the next day this was not much of a tip per Nelson's representation. Anyway, as my wife and I began unpacking, we learned there was no bar in one of the garment boxes to hold my expensive suits, slacks, and my wife's dresses (9 suits, 13 pants, 7 dresses) As such, these garments were wrinkled & are in the process of being cleaned and pressed. I reached out to the owner, Daniel Rodriguez to express my concern. During my conversation with Daniel the following day(6/12/2018), he elected not to listen to my concern but rather relentlessly berated and interrogated me about some items Nelson & Riff had disposed and left in the truck apparently. Readers, keep in mind the gentlemen voluntarily welcomed to dispose items as long as I took of them- which I happily did. Taking a look at website, chicagomarthonmovers.com/about-us/, the company claims "we are diligent and careful with prized possessions. Every item to us is worth a million dollars." Further, on the company's home page, they claim "We guarantee you will love our services and our commitment to quality". Clearly, what the company states on their website is a misrepresentation. The tone is set by Danny as he the owner of Marathon Movers. The statements on the company's website don't matter as there is a disconnect between actual company behavior (Danny) and what's published on the company's website. Almost forgot, our expensive crate and barrel table was damaged as well. read more

I did not lift a finger as Jerry and Richard executed a perfect move. I actually can't believe how easy this was. They handled all the big items and then perfectly loaded up all those little annoying items that seem to add up last minute. Richard and Jerry were a total pleasure and professional. I paid the very minor added fee for the wardrobe boxes and they swiftly and perfectly packed up my closet in boxes with with rods to hang clothes on. They accommodated a last minute move I needed when our closing was pushed back, and then another super last minute schedule change when our contractor got behind. Clyde, Pie, and Reign arrived right on time, were super nice guys (the kind of guys you want handling your things!) and hard workers. I've used this company at least 3 times over the past 4yrs and most recently I needed to rearrange my rooms which required helpers that knew how to do some heavy lifting and treated my furniture delicately. We had originally scheduled our move for Sunday between 2-4 pm. Around 4.20 pm, when the movers still hadn't shown up, I called them only to be informed that their truck was down and that they would arrive 30 minutes late. Upon a series of phone calls (at which point I was spamming the person I was in contact with, because he kept telling me that he would get back to us in 30 minutes, and never did) I finally managed to get the truth from them, which was that the truck would take even longer to fix. We would completely understand if the company had informed us how long they would take to fix their truck, instead of telling us that they would call us, and never call us. We waited until 6.30 pm, and they finally told us that it would even take longer, and was kind enough to schedule a new transfer the next morning. They told us that they would compensate for how long they took, and never did. The next day Jason, Juan, and Alec came to move our stuff. Jason was amazing and it seemed like he did all of the work! Incredibly happy we switched to Chicago Marathon Movers (on the recommendation of a friend) after we had already booked with EZ Movers. We had zero issues from scheduling through payment at the end of the move (I'm still trying to get my refundable deposit back from EZ Movers a month after cancelling...). The guys were extremely professional and really took ownership of the work, which made the move much less stressful for us. My wife and I were moving from Harrisburg, PA to Chicago, IL and we had a 15' U-haul completely packed to the brim that we needed help unloading upon arrival. I (foolishly) waited two days before we moved to hire movers to meet us in Chicago to help us, and, lesson learned, most companies were booked. Miraculously, Danny from Chicago Marathon Movers enthusiastically returned my phone call and said they could do it. Sergio and Marlon arrived and efficiently hustled for two hours straight with no breaks. They were super friendly and polite. The task was not an easy one -- we were on the third floor of an apartment building and there was no elevator. They were professional and knew exactly what they were doing the entire time and had the necessary equipment to cover furniture from the rain and lift exceptionally heavy items. I also appreciated that Danny was corresponding with me throughout the day. The crew he sent to us and a flexible schedule from 4-6 PM based upon the status of their previous moving jobs that day. I originally told him we would be there around 5, but we were an hour late and he assured me there was no issue. The one thing I will complain about was that they were an hour and a half late due to traffic and I think they might of had the wrong address somehow (arriving around 7:30) but that was partially my fault too since we were late. Chris and Alec showed up on time. One of the first things Chris said to my daughter and I was "write a review on Yelp". Load out went fine. We explained to the movers to meet us in the back of the apartment building since my daughter's apartment was in the back and on the 1st floor. The drivers got lost and went down an alley way thinking they could access my daughter's building. I found them in the alley and redirected them to the building. After they arrived, Chris again reminded us about the Yelp review. Once they unloaded everything, we noticed that my daughter was missing her stainless steel trashcan ($60 value) and a large ceramic flower vase ( also valued at $60). After discussing this with the movers, Alec remembered seeing it on the loading dock back at the 1st apartment. I called the apartment building to see if it was still on the dock, but it wasn't. I reported this to the manger in charge of the movers. I was told that my missing items would be based on their weight and not their value. He said he would be able to reimburse me 6 cents on the dollar, hence $6.00 per item. I was very upset with his business decision. In the end, he reimbursed me $60.00 for both items. Wow. I cannot express how ABSOLUTELY AMAZING my experience was with Marathon Movers yesterday. I scheduled the move over the phone about two weeks ago. The day before the move, they confirmed via email and said someone would call before they arrive at 9:00 AM. I received a phone call at 8:30 AM and they arrived just before 9:00 AM. We moved from a coach house in Bucktown to a loft in Wicker Park. Marathon sent three great guys-Juan, Robert and Adam. All three of them were professional, courteous, polite and VERY hard working. I thought it would take at least 6 or 7 hours to do our move and was shocked when it only took three hours from start to finish. These three guys never took a break and were amazingly fast and careful. Nothing was dropped, scratched, or broken. They cared for our belongings as if they were theirs. Of all the moving companies I called, Marathon was by far the cheapest (50 percent cheaper than most of the other companies) and their service was SUPERB from the beginning of the process until the end. I, unfortunately, had the extreme displeasure of doing business with Marathon Movers 6 months ago. Danny assured me that they were all professionals and do a great job. LIES! I had moved two months prior and the same job took MM 3x longer. Same circumstances, different abilities. These men took almost a half an hour to wrap 10 pieces of glass in a blanket. When they went to move my sofa they didn't wrap it as I had requested nor had the supplies to.WHAT MOVERS DON'T HAVE SUPPLIES? They assured me they knew what they were doing and my sofa would be fine. Upon arriving to my new place I was upstairs while they were bringing my sofa up. The sofa did not fit and instead of using the common sense of a mover..or I don't know ..A HUMAN BEING.. they didn't measure before attempting or ask ME when it didn't fit!They tried to force my uncovered CREAM sofa into a space it was too large for, staining,ripping, and denting it.The crew accepted full responsibility and told me to call and the damages would be taken care of. When I brought the issue to Management's(danny) attention he responded saying I took forever to get money from the atm (I am 25 and fit it does not take 20 min to walk a block) , I rode in the truck(I asked if I was supposed to, I didn't request to), and the movers took their time to assure my glass belongings were safe. You mean the glass in my apartment that is extremely scratched up, so it now has to be kept covered? Danny agreed to have my sofa cleaned and once damages were found, fixed. I complained to the illinois commerce commission and after speaking with them his hostile, unprofessional mannerism and his staff's incompetency was explained. They did not have authority to be performing moves. How can you claim to be professionals? My move was ILLEGAL, so in the words of Rihanna, "How 'bout a round of applause?Standin' ovation" for a job well done. After he was fined for the illegal move, he sent me yet another horrible email, he decided to ignore repair quotes and blow off compensating me. Being fined for illegal activities that YOU chose to do, has nothing to do with me or my damages. I have just filed paperwork to go to court and sue. This issue has resulted in over a $1000 dollars in damages and this sum will grow as lawyers get involved, all because Marathon Movers lack the ability to do business properly. Since this company has recently closed its Facebook page to comments, I'll post my final comment about this company tonight. The owner called me only after I publicly called out his company about my couch getting damaged during the move. The owner replied that his employee knows for a fact that he didn't damage my couch and that he trust his employees and they do good work. There is no doubt his employees do good work. My question is how does the owner know that his employee is telling him the truth? How does the employee know for a fact that he didn't damage my couch and can they prove they didn't? I was told by the owner's wife that the owner would call me but I never received that call that day. Instead, the owner called his employee to discuss the matter. That is absolutely shady. I am considering taking this company to small claims court to recoup the repair costs to my couch. I will definitely be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. As distrust worthy as this company is, I anticipate an unethical or illegal response from the owner and/or his designee. I've heard of companies like this hurting people or damaging their property because they received bad reviews or were turned in to the Better Business Bureau. The fact remains, my couch was damaged and now the company won't even allow people to post comments on their Facebook other than the ones they most likely lobbied for. read more

At first everything was going smoothly then they started to slow down, talk on the phone amongst other things through my move. So my 2 and half hour move turned into 4 hour move!! Now I did more from Chicago to Highland IN and if you know the area you know it's not that far apart. He got angry at the end because I asked about using the yelp deal they have after he told me not to buy it because Yelp would take certain amount of the money. He told me he would just give me the discount and when it came to pay he said well I'll give you a 5% discount which is not equivalent to the yelp deal. He then proceeds to tell me that he should've cancelled with me when I called to confirm with him the night before. They are very unprofessional and ignorant. I did like Tony thats why i gave a 2 star but the manager Dan is an ass and I would never use them again or refer them to anyone. And they were over 45 minutes late. read more

I hired Danny and his company for a 300 mile move to another state. We chose Marathon Movers because he was kind & polite from the very first call and had very competitive pricing. I requested his certificate of insurance and called to confirm with agent that he did have coverage. We like to support small businesses and we felt Marathon Movers was right for our move. We couldn't have been more wrong. Two of the guys were at both sides of our move and were AMAZING workers. Edgar & Gilbert busted their tails on two of the hottest days of the summer. There were some unfortunate events with the moving trucks - understandable, things like this happen. But we only knew this because WE contacted them when they were late arriving. We had problems with our closing because of their late arrival. On the unloading end we discovered we had SOAKED boxes from a leak in the top of the truck that they said they were aware of, but never told us about. Due to a second truck problem, they had to unload and reload the last half of our belongings into another truck - these items were not properly secured and we had MANY scratched, dinged and broken items. This was very disheartening. When we contacted Danny about how he would like to handle this he became VERY belligerent and disrespectful to my husband on the phone. He offered NO compensation for our damaged/ruined items - and there were MANY. After a LONG discussion he purchased a broken table from us as compensation. Not really what we would consider compensation. We were greatly disappointed in the service & attitude we received from Danny at the end of the move. We were kind & helpful to the movers and assisted them as much as possible. I hope this provides Marathon Movers a chance to look at their processes and improve their trucks and customer service. read more

I had used Marathon Movers a couple of years ago and absolutely LOVED them, so when I was moving again, I decided to call them and use them, even turning down a recommendation from my lender on a moving company. Marathon Movers is good since it charges by the hour and includes moving supplies, but in hindsight, I wish I wouldn't have used Marathon Movers and will NOT be using them again in the future. Everything started fine, and when I called to make the appointment the owner stated repeatedly that this is a family-owned business and they pride themselves on making the customer happy and use this for referrals for new and repeat business. The two men who came to move my belongings were nice, helpful, and friendly. They got right to work and loaded the truck up in a timely manner, even leaving before I did, as I did a final sweep of the house. When I was almost to the new destination, I received a call from one of the gentlemen saying that they got pulled over and the cop was saying the truck needed to be weighed. It was difficult to understand exactly what was going on, but it sounded like things would be fine and they would be on their way again shortly. A short time later, I again got a call from one of the movers saying that I needed to come to the truck because the other mover had some tickets or something on his license and the police were going to tow the truck and impound it if there wasn't someone to drive it. I told the mover that I would need to get someone to come with me in my car to then drive it if I was going to have to drive the truck. Being a female and alone, I also thought this was best for safety reasons. He said that I wouldn't have time for this and that I needed to get to the truck right away, leave my car there and drive the truck to my new place or it was going to be towed. Feeling frantic about this news, I asked where they were and started heading that way. Mind you, they were 25 miles from where my new destination was and in a city that made no sense for the route that should have been taken to my new place. Additionally, they had left before me, so I am still unsure why they were there and how I beat them to the destination even before they got pulled over. While I was driving there, I had my brother, who is a police officer, call the police department of the village they were in and he was able to have the police agree to not tow the truck. I also thought it was ridiculous and unreasonable to even think of having a customer drive the truck and leave his/her car in a different location. When I got to the truck, I realized that the driver had been arrested and the other mover didn't have a license. I informed him that the police were not going to tow the truck and he said that they were going to be having someone else come from the company to drive it. When the truck finally arrived at my new place, the driver who was arrested was there, so I'm still unsure how/why they got him when I was paying by the hour for services. It also made things even more uncomfortable. They quickly unloaded the truck in about an hour and seemed to be trying to make up for lost time. The previous time I used them, they went out of their way to put up bed frames and reattach furniture they took apart for the move, but this time they did none of that, despite calling themselves "full service." The movers informed me that they wouldn't charge me for the hours that the truck was sitting while pulled over, which seemed like common sense to me, but I called the owner to talk about what had happened and discuss compensation since I had to drive 50 miles to and from my place to the location the truck was pulled over at, along with tolls and the inconvenience of having my things almost impounded. The owner immediately started arguing with me, was disrespectful, and told me that HE was the one inconvenienced since he had to find someone else to drive the truck and can't control who the police pull over. I told him that it is his responsibility since it was an employee that he hired who got pulled over and taken away for not being able to legally drive, as well as having a truck that was overweight and with violations. Despite a lengthy conversation, he was unable to see it from my perspective, accused me of trying to take advantage of him, called me a racist, and threatened to take me to court since I didn't think it was fair to pay full price on a service that wasn't delivered as promised and required extra time, gas, money, and headaches on my part. Very poor customer service and an inability to take responsibility for their errors. It also sounds like people have been having similar problems recently with Marathon Movers, and from reading a response from the owner to a recent complaint on yelp about them, you can see for yourself the lack of customer service and general regard and respect for their customers. read more

We had to move twice within a span of 3 weeks due to delay in closing on our condo and one of them was at a notice of one day only. I was a little concerned about the ads on craigslist but did not have much options. I called Dan and he set me up for 6 pm the next day. They showed up right on time, were very friendly. We lived out of the boxes for 3 weeks and when it was time to move to our new condo, I called them again without any hesitation. Let's start at the beginning.. two weeks ago I got a notice of a huge rent increase and we decided it was time to move, problem was we've been in our apartment 10 years and had TONS of stuff and no time to really go through it. I called several movers, some were unavailable for my move date, some were crazy expensive, some didn't even return my call.. but when I called marathon it was about 9pm, I honestly was just expecting to leave a message, but Danny answered and explained that this is his business, so there are no "business hours". That alone was a selling point for me, he arranged a crew for my move date at an extremely reasonable rate. The morning of my move Jerry and Rob arrived right on time ready to move my unorganized mess! After loading up the truck, we decided we would move the rest ourself since we didn't even finish packing. These guys had us moved faster then I could've ever imagined! Then yesterday we realized that we had way more left then I thought... called marathon again.. and again Danny was super accommodating. He had Jerry and Juan come for round 2! This time they even helped pack and run out garbage.. moving with such little notice could've been a horrible experience, but these guys seriously made it a great one. DO NOT USE!!' Jerry the mover came to my house to to give me an estimate . I had everything already pack and In boxes when he came . I was moving myself and another family member to Nashville . Jerry assured me for $3300 he could get my stuff and the other house onto the truck . The day of the move he could only get my items onto the truck . He said I had more items than the day he gave me my estimate . I did not . When we arrive at the new house he had crack a Baker sleigh bed .. which he never informed of . It was glue together . Jerry said he had no idea how it happen but said he would drive the other items to Nashville for free . I had to go with him and rent the truck . Give Him $300 in cash for gas and his helper . This was on a Wednesday . Thursday he arrived with the items . I gave him $hotel money for the way back , gas and tip money . Friday he assure me the truck had been reruns . Today is Monday and uhaul tell me it was just returned . The reason he did the second job was they did not want an insurance claim or bad review . I would think twice before using this company . In the end it will cost you more then the estimate they give you . I once Jerry received his money he could careless about the service . read more

Jerry and Juan did an excellent job moving our apartment from Schaumburg to Rockford. They arrived precisely on time. For a distance of 60 miles they finished the job in 3 hours. That's really quick and efficient in my opinion. They were careful with our stuff and moved everything without a scratch. We didn't have covers for our furniture so they provided us for free. Honestly, life savers!! My original moving company cancelled an hour before they were supposed to arrive and I had no idea what I was going to do. I called these guys and they came out with a truck right away. We were already over our allotted elevator time slot but they were done in less than an hour. Marathon movers helped me move to a new place in the same village. Due to the closing schedule, I have to move out on Wednesday and move on on Thursday. They are courteous and friendly and best all, on time. Loaded up everything and put the truck in a storage area. They came back the next day after my new house is closed. Everything went smoothly. I could not be happier with my experience with Marathon Movers! I hired movers from a random Craigslist ad to move some furniture and they failed to show up. In a panic I searched for emergency movers and so glad I found these guys! Jerry and his partner (can't remember his name) were both so great!
