All around good experience, workers were polite and never stopped moving for the entirety of the day. Pricing was aligned with quote, the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because there was one large ding/scratch that happened during the move in which the worker immediately took responsibility for which is good. However I asked if they could clean it with a eraser pad or something and they couldn't. They suggested I use dawn soap, that However did not work. So I had to go and get some paint and paint over that mistake, which also happend to create a small nick in the top of the French doors which will forever be there. Also two 6 inch long black scrapes on the floor that weren't previously there. I know it sounds petty, but this was a new build home and there was zero damage or scuffs prior to the move. I researched many movers and decided on Collins based on reviews on Yelp and Google with keywords like "professional", "courteous", "careful", etc. From my first inquiry with the office staff to the owner reassuring me when I called to confirm my move to interacting with the movers on moving day; everyone was knowledgeable/skilled and kind. My move was quoted at 4.5 hours and they finished in 3.5 and could have finished in 3 if we didn't have to wait 40 minutes to get access to the elevator at the new place. We needed help unloading a truck and Chicago and we saw these guys had great reviews on a few different platforms, and we decided to go with them. I work for a DC based moving company called Mic's Moving and we set a high standard for our employees. So when we need to partner with another company I make sure to do my homework. From the first conversation about possible hiring some help, to the actually booking process was a breeze. The sent a clean estimate with no hidden fees. Made to answer all of our questions. They called the day before to let me know when to expect the crew there the next day. The day of the unload Johnathan called me to let me know when he would be there. Since he arrived before me he took it upon himself to see where was the best place to preform the unload at. I get there and these 2 guys are quick to do a walk through of the access points and apartment with me. Then the magic started! I am a good mover and not easily impressed even with good movers sometimes but the level of care and ease these guys moved had me thanking the stars I hired Collins Family Movers. They even had a small tool I needed to finish tightening a loose screw on a chair. So take it from another moving professional this company is one to consider. Very transparent, fair, and trustworthy company. Hired for a "load only" job -- it was about $1,100 for 3 guys for 3 hours. It's not the cheapest option out there, but that's because their customer service and quality assurance standards are so high -- it was worth it for me! William, Jeremy, and Jesus helped us wrap up furniture and load boxes into the u-haul van. It was pouring rain that day, and William took care to lay down furniture pads leading up the door so their shoes wouldn't track mud onto the carpets. The guys were in good spirits the whole time, and were very helpful and pleasant to interact with. There were some things I wish were done differently - for example some boxes with "fragile" labels got packed on the bottom, so the weight of the boxes on top caused the structural integrity to fail on the bottom box. Maybe I should have been supervising the truck loading or communicated up front to make sure certain boxes got packed on top. Still very happy with service overall. read more

I'm finally settled and sleeping normally again after completing a two-stop move with the expert help of Collins Family Movers. Rick followed up with a phone call within hours of me submitting my "Get quote" form and was helpful, kind, and clear in communicating what to expect on the big day. I got reminder texts the day before and the morning of my move, and the lead mover (Jeff, I believe) called me with ETA updates when they ran into traffic on the way to my place near downtown Chicago. The 3-man crew assigned to my move worked efficiently and carefully, to ensure that nothing was damaged and dinged. The layout of the high-rise I lived in isn't easy for movers to navigate with rolling carts, but they made the best of it with smiles on their faces. After a stop to drop off 15% (or so) of my belongings at my boyfriend's apartment (my new home!), we traveled on to my storage unit, where the crew gamely Jenga-ed the rest of my stuff into a storage unit that was just barely big enough to contain everything. Again, no complaints and all smiles. My only nitpick (and it's a super minor one) is that some of the things I'd color-coded to be put at the front of my storage unit (for easy removal when needed) ended up stacked high on top of items at the back of the unit. So retrieving them won't be quite as easy as hoped when the time comes. But given my complicated color-coding system--and the fact that the entire move of one apartment took nearly 7 hours because of traffic and the 2 stops--I'd say these guys NAILED IT. :) Thank you, Collins Family Movers, for making a day I'd been anxious about all summer so much easier than I feared it would be. The first time I used Collins they were great. The second time my new furniture was damaged and Richard the owner refuses to pay for the damage. My new cocktail table, credenza and bedroom furniture was damaged. I had to pay Walter E. Smithe to come out to get my table for repair. A whopping $549.00. I paid $2400.00 for Collins to move a two bedroom apartment right down Lake Shore Dr. from one location to the next. I also tipped the movers $200.00. I didn't notice the damages right away, I sent pictures to Richard Supran, the owner. He promised to find someone to make the repairs and he never did. All in, I paid over $3,149.00 for lousy service and damaged furniture. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. Richard offered 50 cents per pound for items totally broken which is an insult. Now I have to get Bloomingdales to fix my credenza! If you have expensive furniture SKIP THIS COMPANY. They don't hire professionally trained people. Pictures don't lie. FOLLOW UP. Richard the owner contacted me and paid for the repair of my cocktail table. I appreciate the fact he reached out to me and resolved the matter. I have no intention to hurt a small business.
