From the very beginning these guys were awesome. I sent in a request for estimate late Saturday night, I got a call on Sunday to go through everything, discussed pricing and what typical moves of my size typically take from there I felt we had a fairly accurate estimate and was able to pull the trigger they were able to get me in that Friday. The guys showed up very punctual (5 minutes into the arrival window) got my two full storage units loaded up from the 5th floor in what I can only assume was record time and got everything unloaded even faster. I can not say enough good things about the crew: Miguel, Juan, German, Denis, Jose, and Henry. They were fast efficient and best of all careful. They protected everything and made the move easy. Started off the move several years ago by saying that they wouldn't be able to finish the whole job today and if we start, we have to be OK with them doing a half job despite them having quoted us for the full job . We decided to go ahead with the move anyway since the place needed to be empty for the next occupants. I had to hire another moving company to finish the other half the next day Going back to the move, after we got to my new place, one of the movers was angry about the move because I mentioned they had broken some furniture. That mover threw some furniture across my front yard in a fit of rage (he was a big dude). I genuinely feared for my family's safety in that moment and tried to diffuse the situation as best as I could. I contemplated calling the cops but decided to just get them out of my house as quickly as possible. I still tipped mostly because I was afraid they were going to come back and attack my family if I didn't. The company refused to take any responsibility for the damaged furniture which totaled about $500 in damages. Collins Family Movers recently helped my family with a long-distance move from Chicago to Michigan. I recommend them extremely highly. CFM provided full packing services on a Wednesday, and on Thursday they loaded everything onto two trucks, drove to my new home, then unloaded and set everything up (in one day!). It was a complex move. We were coming from a very full townhouse - lots of breakables, a couple pieces of furniture that required significant disassembly, a piano that had to go around a tight corner and down a flight of stairs. Everything was packed and loaded with extreme care. When we arrived at the new house, the team went to great lengths to place everything just where we wanted it, assembling all items and cleaning up nicely. Through it all, every member of the team showed a very high level of professionalism, compassion, kindness, and respect, both for my belongings and for my family members. Working with owner Richard before and during the move was also excellent. He walked me carefully through my moving options, and provided detailed quotes based on a couple different scenarios I'd asked him about. The price he quoted was in line with quotes I received from other local movers, but I went with CFM specifically because of the confidence I got speaking directly with Richard. When moving day arrived, there were no surprises: everyone was on time, the team was the size I expected, and the price was exactly what I was quoted. There was even a flub-up on my end, where I accidentally overpaid by a few hundred dollars, and Richard nearly immediately refunded the balance after the move was complete. All around good experience, workers were polite and never stopped moving for the entirety of the day. Pricing was aligned with quote, the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because there was one large ding/scratch that happened during the move in which the worker immediately took responsibility for which is good. However I asked if they could clean it with a eraser pad or something and they couldn't. They suggested I use dawn soap, that However did not work. So I had to go and get some paint and paint over that mistake, which also happend to create a small nick in the top of the French doors which will forever be there. Also two 6 inch long black scrapes on the floor that weren't previously there. I know it sounds petty, but this was a new build home and there was zero damage or scuffs prior to the move. My son had his friends back out on him the day before he was supposed to move. We live far away, so I could not get there to help him. Decided to look around to see what companies were available, and Collins was able to help us out. They kept us informed as to when they would arrive and arrived right when they said they would. They moved him out of his garden-level apartment and into a storage unit. Although they quoted me 3.5 hours, they were able to do it in 2 hours. I was charged for only 2hours, so I was happy. My son said that they were great at moving everything out and packing it into his storage unit. He had a really heavy and big couch, and he said that they handled it with no problem. I researched many movers and decided on Collins based on reviews on Yelp and Google with keywords like "professional", "courteous", "careful", etc. From my first inquiry with the office staff to the owner reassuring me when I called to confirm my move to interacting with the movers on moving day; everyone was knowledgeable/skilled and kind. My move was quoted at 4.5 hours and they finished in 3.5 and could have finished in 3 if we didn't have to wait 40 minutes to get access to the elevator at the new place. I'm finally settled and sleeping normally again after completing a two-stop move with the expert help of Collins Family Movers. Rick followed up with a phone call within hours of me submitting my "Get quote" form and was helpful, kind, and clear in communicating what to expect on the big day. I got reminder texts the day before and the morning of my move, and the lead mover (Jeff, I believe) called me with ETA updates when they ran into traffic on the way to my place near downtown Chicago. The 3-man crew assigned to my move worked efficiently and carefully, to ensure that nothing was damaged and dinged. The layout of the high-rise I lived in isn't easy for movers to navigate with rolling carts, but they made the best of it with smiles on their faces. After a stop to drop off 15% (or so) of my belongings at my boyfriend's apartment (my new home!), we traveled on to my storage unit, where the crew gamely Jenga-ed the rest of my stuff into a storage unit that was just barely big enough to contain everything. Again, no complaints and all smiles. My only nitpick (and it's a super minor one) is that some of the things I'd color-coded to be put at the front of my storage unit (for easy removal when needed) ended up stacked high on top of items at the back of the unit. So retrieving them won't be quite as easy as hoped when the time comes. But given my complicated color-coding system--and the fact that the entire move of one apartment took nearly 7 hours because of traffic and the 2 stops--I'd say these guys NAILED IT. :) Thank you, Collins Family Movers, for making a day I'd been anxious about all summer so much easier than I feared it would be.
