I had my first appointment with Dr. Dow in March, and I love their office. I have never had such a quick and pleasant experience at the dentist's office. Dr. Dow saw me immediately, rather than having to wait in the chair like other offices. Then, since I was a new patient, he took the time to explain what he saw in my X-rays, and what he will continue to monitor in the future. He also offered to clean and refit my retainer for free anytime I please; this is something that I never have heard of a dentist's office offering. I was experiencing terrible tooth pain the night before Thanksgiving and figured I needed an emergency root canal. And of course, the Chicago Style Smiles office was closed the next day for the holiday. Nevertheless, Dr. Rohan graciously drove from his suburban home to downtown Chicago on Thanksgiving morning to open the office and perform the procedure himself. What else should I say that others did not? I too had an appointment with Dr Rohan for a tooth filling. When I entered the office, I was warmly greeted with the receptionist. Everything else in the clinic was good other than the service. Like others, I was not recommended a crown or any other treatment simultaneously. But yes, the service was not up to the mark. I have earlier got my filling done from other dentists, and the experience was very good. Not just the staff, but also the dentist's service was something that made me visit the place again. I've gone to dozens of dentists in my life and Dr. Dow is by far the most professional, kind, and experienced dentist I've met. I was born with two of my front teeth missing. I had braces as a child but over time my teeth shifted a lot. I went through incognito braces (braces behind the teeth) to straighten them and then I went through a series of procedures such as a bone graph and dental implant prior to Dr. Dow completing my final restoration. I had my front six teeth restored. The implant (top left tooth) is now covered by a crown and the remaining other 5 front teeth are veneers. For my entire life I've been self conscious of my smile and now I can't stop smiling. My entire experience at Chicago Style Smiles has been incredible from beginning to end. I have mixed feelings writing this review. In 6 years in Chicago, I struggled to find the right dentist, and I'm not sure I ever did (after seeing 4 different dentists). So I will lay it all out. The good: 1. The reception staff is wonderful and the atmosphere is nice. 2. Dr. Rohan does good work, even if he is not the friendliest guy. I care less about bedside manner and more about good work at the end of the day. The bad: 1. Expensive. I realize that having an office on the mag mile is not cheap, and so you will pay through the nose here. I have left Chicago to get a Master's degree, but I don't think I will return here when I come back, because I simply can't afford it. They charged at least twice as much as other dentists I have seen. 2. This is a continuation of #1. I recently asked them to transfer my records to my new dentist, since I have moved. They refused to do this, telling my new dentist that I had outstanding charges. This was news to me, since I always paid in full at visits and any subsequent bills. When I called them, they claimed that they weren't refusing to send my records, that they just wanted to make sure they had my current information, and I asked if I wanted them sent now. No, I already went ahead and had my new dentist do my X-rays, thanks. I asked them to send me an itemized bill, given that I have not been to their office in over a year and had no idea what I was charged for. They say that they only recently resolved certain issues with my insurance about dental work dating back to 2011. Yes, I am being billed $100 now for work done two years ago. I am not happy about this, given that I'm on a grad student budget and was not expecting this little "surprise." Update: They have since removed this charge given the circumstances. They provide quality treatment and I look forward to visiting their office because they are friendly and knowledgeable in what they do. This review has been about 4 years in the making. I've never written a review on Yelp...but it would be a crime if I didn't give up my "Yelp reviewing virginity" to write this one. Rather than try to outdo the poetic hyperbole of some other reviewers for other dentist offices ("Jesus returned to earth last year, and now he does my teeth cleanings every 6 months"), let me just tell you my story: When I was a teenager and throughout college, I didn't have dental insurance for a number of years. In addition, I wouldn't say I've always had the best eating habits (a 2 Liter of Coke really helps write those papers at 1 AM) or the best dental hygiene ("Does floss have an expiration date?"). By the end of college, I had a number of minor, lingering dental problems that, over time, had snowballed into some major dental issues (deep cavities, a cracked tooth, etc.). I moved to Chicago after school and had great insurance with my new job. A logical human being would have immediately rushed to the dentist to get their problems fixed ...so what did I do? Nothing, of course. Absolutely nothing...for an entire year. I know many people struggle with FOMO ("fear of missing out"); I would say I struggle with FOFO ("fear of finding out"). I was scared. And embarrassed. Scared to find out how bad the problems really were and embarrassed about how long I had let those problems linger. Finally, the latent anxiety (which was totally exhausting) and constant prodding from my wife forced me into the dentist. I read great reviews of "Chicago Style Smiles" online but was very skeptical...and definitely not looking forward to the shaming and lecturing that I thought were sure to come. In my first appointment, I remember how anxious I was waiting to hear Dr. Rohan's assessment of my x-rays. To my surprise, there was no judgment: he was honest, understanding, professional, and optimistic. He said something to the effect of "we've got a lot of work to do, but here's the plan" and "you've got a great shot to keep almost all of your teeth for your entire life". Everyone - from the assistants to the office staff - were so sincere and caring in that first appointment. I've moved a dozen times in my life and, as a result, have been to dozens of different dentist and doctors offices; I had never seen an entire team that was simultaneously so capable and so caring. For scheduling reasons, I started seeing Dr. Dow as my primary dentist a few years ago. Over the last few years, I've had almost every type of work you can imagine completed by Dr. Dow and Dr. Rohan: cleanings, fillings, crowns, and root canals. The quality of the work? Perfect. Every time. By last summer, I was finally back to "neutral" with my teeth. After all those years of anxiety, it was an amazing feeling. Such an amazing feeling, in fact, that, for the first time, I started to think about doing something positive for my teeth rather than just trying to "play defense". All my life, I've had crowded and crooked teeth (e.g., my canines would stick up and out like vampire fangs), so, 12 months ago, I asked Dr. Dow about teeth straightening with Invisalign. Fast forward 12 months. A few weeks ago, I completed my Invisalign treatment, and I couldn't be happier... I never imagined my once-crooked teeth could look so amazing! I never experienced the "joy" of braces as a child, but I have to say, I can't imagine teeth straightening being easier than Invisalign...and, as a bonus, I probably lost about 15 lbs during the treatment (due to the discipline of the process). I completed the Invisalign treatment with Dr. Dow and Diana. As you can imagine, I've had quite a few visits over the last year; I see Dr. Dow more than I see my own mom. I honestly doubt you could find a more friendly guy in the healthcare profession than Dr. Dow. I saw him out around town last fall and he bought dessert for me and my wife (....how bada$$ is a dentist that buys dessert for you?). He also recently honeymooned in Europe and then took the time to send me a detailed email with recommendations for a similar trip. I can't believe I'm writing this, but I genuinely enjoy going to the dentist now; at this point, it really feels like I'm just going to catch up with a friend. I really can't believe how far I've come in a few short years. I actually enjoy going to the dentist now. More importantly, I love my teeth (which is a minor miracle). This office not only fixed my teeth but helped make them better and straighter than I ever imagined they would be! I can't thank everyone in the office enough for that - especially Dr. Dow, Dr. Rohan, Diana, and Shelli & Maryellen. If you've been putting off visiting the dentist out of fear and anxiety, or if you've always wanted awesome, straight teeth, do yourself a favor and just schedule one appointment with these guys. I just went to my first appt with Dr. Rohan last month and I have to say, I totally recommend him. He has top of the line equipment (including digital x-rays, a pen tool camera, and a cavity sensor)... It seems very space age, but by providing this high-tech stuff, he taught me stuff about my teeth I didn't know. I am writing a review after my appointment with Doctor Dow. I am very pleased with the treatment overall. Dr. Dow was extremely careful and treated my teeth accordingly. I would have definitely go back. However, I am EXTREMELY upset with the receptionist, who, when I first called, advised me they cover ALL PPO. I specifically asked Delta Dental of IL. They did not inform me that they cover only the Premier and not the PPO package and I ended up paying more than I would have paid elsewhere. Want to feel at home and get the feeling that you're walking into a genuine, small-town business? I usually don't write these reviews--positive or negative--but the experiences I have had at this office are too exceptional not to share with others. I can honestly say that this dental office will give you just this next-door neighbor experience. I have (and will continue) to recommend friends who are new to the city and ask the question "Do you know a good dentist?" to this office. In a city where we are constantly reading the fine print and watching our wallet, it feels pretty good to walk into a business and know that you are going to be treated like a human being. Dr Rohan and Dr Dow make it very clear from your first visit that they want to earn your respect, gain your trust, and earn your long-term business. [In fact, in my very first visit, the dentist actually gives you your entire service--cleaning and all!!]. Now that is exceptional service, if you ask me!! And larger, more intrusive dental visits? Little over a year after first coming to this office, I smashed my face into a rock on vacation and crushed my front teeth. It was painful and embarrassing, and the first thing I did was call Dr Dow. Even though I was halfway across the country, he put my mind at ease and checked in with me daily to monitor my pain and swelling before my return flight. Upon arriving back to Chicago, he agreed to come into the office early to meet with me and assess my situation. Clearly I was frazzled and concerned about my tooth health and appearance, but his attentiveness to my situation and calm demeanor really gave me peace of mind. He went right to work on me the day I returned and began shaping my teeth back to their original form. The end result of this incident was a root canal, which concerned me even more as it was my first one -- but I must say, if every root canal was as painless and seamless as the one I underwent, I'd happily come into this place on a regular basis. These guys are true professionals at what they do -- but more importantly, they are kind/caring people. The staff (outside of the doctors) are a bubbly, service-oriented crew and really make you feel like part of the gang. The one time I had a discrepancy between my insurance payment and my responsibility -- they quickly followed up with the insurer and I was provided a refund for a small overpayment, virtually immediately. And their follow-up after a visit is remarkable! I grew up in a small town of 2,000 people, and my local dentist there didn't even follow up with me the day after my visit "to see how I was doing". Couldn't believe a Dentist Office could actually live up to 5 stars. But it's true... these guys are great. From the front desk staff, to the assistants, and finally the Dentist. All very professional while also being extremely nice and caring. I went in for one of the worst possible procedures you can have, a big yucky molar root canal. They were able to fit me in within 24 hours of me calling (I was in pain). Pricing was transparent and reasonable, unlike another experience I had with a dentist downtown. The icing on the cake is that Dr. Rohan called to check on me later that afternoon. I've had about 5 root canals in my life and this is the first dentist to call and check on me. Also, the staff continued to call me over the next few days since I was still in pain due to it being a pretty bad infection. I moved to the city about 18 months ago, and finally decided that I should find a dentist here. I needed a cleaning and to have an old filling replaced. From the moment I walked into the office, everyone was nice and friendly. Dr. Dow and the other staff members there were all very welcoming and professional. Throughout my appointment, Dr. Dow took the time to tell me what he was seeing with my teeth, and tell me exactly what he was doing - I even learned a few things about my teeth/mouth that I never knew before. Dr. Rohan's office is in a great location with great views of Millennium Park. His staff is super friendly. They may not actually remember every one of Dr. Rohan's patients, but they sure act like it. They definitely make you feel at home and comfortable (which can help calm the dentist anxiety). They are very helpful and knowledgeable, especially when it comes to insurance. They tell you everything upfront. I have never had to deal with any "hidden charges". Dr. Dow is the best dentist in Chicago! After trying out another dentist in the loop and being disappointed, my husband suggested I try his dentist, Dr. Dow. I arrived a little bit late, but his receptionist was pleasant and understanding instead of being flustered. Dr. Dow was extremely friendly and welcoming. He reviewed all of my records and x-rays with me and explained what he would be doing that day. Also, instead of a hygienist cleaning my teeth, Dr. Dow explained that he likes doing the first cleaning so that he can get to know the patient and their needs. I've never heard of a dentist taking the time to do this, and was very impressed. Dr. Dow answered all of my questions and explained any next steps and recommended how to reduce wear and brush best for my teeth. My husband and I also both received a credit for referring/being referred, which was a bonus. At the end of my pain-free exam, Dr. Dow walked me out and with genuine concern and said that he hoped my dental experience was good in their office - and it was 100% fabulous! His receptionist then cheerily booked my next appointment and wished me a nice day. After being scared out of my wits almost a year and a half ago when visiting another dentist in Chicago I decided that I needed to get over my fear and find a new dentist. Okay... I can officially join the bandwagon and keep Chicago Style Smiles at a perfect 5-star rating! There are no ghostwritten Yelp reviews here. How is that even possible for a dental practice? I wondered the same thing and waited until my second visit to see if it was a fluke. Glad to say it wasn't. 1 - I called based on Yelp reviews at close to 5pm on a random day. Shelli answered and I told her I was looking for a new dentist and I was due for my 6 month cleaning. Surprisingly they had just received a cancellation for the next morning at 8am. This was already too good to be true... I took the appointment of course! I arrived, was greeted warmly, given paper work to complete, and a bottle of water to refresh after that hot walk from the train. Promptly, and I mean promptly after I completed the paperwork I was taking back to the exam room where Ana got me all settled in. Dr. Rohan came in to welcome me, shake my hand and assure me I would be taken care of... that was all before Ana even started the initial exam. I was so impressed with the level of service already. Normally, you barely see the dentist until the appointment is nearly over. He then left and Ana talked me through everything before she did it and completed the initial exam. When Dr. Rohan came back in, he was super thorough and explained EVERYTHING along the way. Their technology is very advanced. I had never seen an electronic device that helps detects cavities... it beeps and registers a rating on a scale of 0-100 to signal whether a cavity exists or at least whether the doc should pay closer attention to a particular tooth. What was even better about that is that Dr. Rohan STILL relied on his own training and didn't just assume the technology was right. He checked, double checked, triple checked and in one instance wasn't convinced the potential cavity that registered was worthy of treating just yet. Again... he was thorough and thoughtful. They also take in-mouth photos with a sleek, advanced-looking camera that looks like a pen - all to get a better look at certain areas. Pretty cool. I could go on and on about how awesome my experience was... which is sooooo odd because it was the dentist and I was told that I did, in fact, have cavities. LOL. When I checked out, I made my next 6-month appointment as well as my second appointment to fill in those darn cavities. My next surprise? Shelli gave me a $50 credit on my account since I mentioned Yelp. I hadn't even paid attention to that but woohoo! I used that towards an extra flouride treatment during the exam and for the fillings. 2 - Second visit yesterday was just as great. I got there maybe 5 minutes early this time... since they were so prompt, I wanted to make sure I gave the same level of respect! And surely enough, I barely sat down and they were ready for me to head back to the exam room. I mean, nobody likes fillings but I survived clearly! Dr Rohan and his staff are the BEST!!! They are extremely friendly & helpful. My husband and I have both received outstanding care at this dentist office . About a year ago my husband had an issue with a dental implant. I called Dr Rohan, left an after-hours voicemail and received an immediate call back. He made time to see my husband the following morning before his first scheduled appointment. Dr. Rohan did an amazing job fixing the tooth and he took the extra time needed to make it look absolutely perfect. Definitely top notch service! Staff & Dr. Dow are amazing! They are so friendly and professional. They work with your schedule and if if you say you can't be there longer than an hour (lunch hr), they'll get right to business with no fuss. The fist time patient forms online make it easier with less wait time in the office. I've never had any issues with billing and even recommended them to the majority of my co workers. The location is convenient, great views to look at will your teeth are being cleaned and it always smells wonderful in the office! read more
