Chicano Boy is one of my favorite places to eat when I am in Staunton. When I got into town yesterday evening, I placed an order in their app. Super easy. When I arrived at Chicano Boy, I saw that they had expanded and are now in their usual location, then there is China House, and then Chicano Boy has a place for you to pick up to go orders in the next storefront. I was able to walk in and grab my food and drinks. This was 100% contact free, which is great if you have Covid concerns. I strongly recommend the taters. So, so good. read more

Fabulous mexi-Cali food with super authentic corn tortilla tacos. Super cute atmosphere and GREAT prices. I ordered the chicken taco (marinated in citrus and garlic with radish and cotija cheese) --SO FLAVORFUL! And the braised brisket taco (with pickled onion and queso Fresca) with a side of queso and chips. Perfect amount and super delish! My vegetarian friend ordered the burrito with sweet potato, black beans and pumpkin seeds. She said it was so good she would eat it every day! Generally, a customer likely does not pay attention to this tip surcharge at the time of payment. This extra charge may seem minor, but calculated over the course of the day/week/month etc. would add up to thousands of extra dollars. I stopped here for lunch while traveling with my dog. The online ordering was super easy and it didn't take long for the food to arrive. I ordered chips and guacamole & a chicken burrito bowl. I have to come to Staunton once a month for work. I am usually very disappointed with the food options in this area, it is virtually a food desert, unless you consider Sheetz fine dining. I saw this place on yelp, still with skepticism; I figured it wouldn't hurt. I ordered a burrito bowl, it was okay. I'm spoiled being from the DC area-- but the food was good given its Staunton. I felt the bowl was a bit overpriced given the amount of food. The bowl was lacking flavor, and there was no option for brown rice, which I am used to at most places. People say the food is awesome.. again, this is relative to the general location and poor quality food. Would I go back? Perhaps. But I am not eager! read more

We've been driving for 4 days. Eaten from hole in the wall BBQ joints and Netflix featured markets. This was the best place I've eaten this whole trip. What a great place! I was in town for work for a few days, and everyone that lived there told me I HAD to get to this place. So, in classic Kevin style on my last night in Staunton, VA, I made it happen. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much - small town Virginia, etc...how good could the Mexican food be? Short answer - AMAZING. Not only lived up to the hype, but far exceeded my expectations. I had three tacos / one sweet potato & pumpkin seed, one chicken, and one carnitas, which I promptly dropped right into my lap. The waitress/hostess/bartender was super helpful and friendly, and replaced it free of charge. Good thing, too - all three were absolutely delicious. This turned into a longer review than I anticipated, but to sum it up - if you're in Staunton, VA for even one day, make sure you get some food from Chicano Boy - absolutely worth the visit, and then some. read more

I grew up in this area and was skeptical when my brother told me there was an amazing taco place nearby. The Shenandoah Valley has very few good taco spots, but Chicano Boy is definitely one of the best (or perhaps THE best)! I was very impressed with the food and the stellar service. I ordered three different tacos: sweet potato black bean, shrimp, and chicken. Each one had different toppings, and I didn't alter anything from how it appeared on the menu. All three were excellent! The sweet potato one was probably my favorite, mostly because I had never had anything like it. The pumpkin seeds were a nice touch. The shrimp one had good flavor, but it would have been better if it were hot, grilled shrimp (they intentionally top it with chilled shrimp). The corn tortillas appear homemade and are fairly think, so they don't break like many corn tortillas! No trip here is complete without an order of chips and guacamole. The chips were thin, warm, and salty and the guacamole was very fresh. I enjoyed the side of jalapeños, which I added to the guacamole for some spice. I would definitely give this place five stars if they made some improvement to their salsas. They have three options and I didn't find any of them to be much better than some of the salsas you get at the grocery store. A salsa bar with 5-6 options would be a cool addition. I had no idea how yummy Chicano Boy Taco would be but I was so impressed with these tacos and queso and chips. I tried their sweet potato & black bean taco and their squash taco. Both were delicious! The sweet potato taco comes with queso fresco, cotija cheese and a spiced pumpkin seed relish while the squash taco was topped with a poblano pepper and onion rajas, cheese, garlic-tomato mojo and oregano. Both tacos were filed with such an interesting, delicious mix of ingredients and I highly appreciated how fun, fresh and flavorful these veggie tacos were. Honestly would love to return (if in the area again) to try the shrimp taco or one of their burritos. I also was such a big fan of the buttery, crispy chips and queso dip. YUM. read more

Revisit Chicano Boy Taco: first please note that this establishment was a weekly visit for us until relocating out of state about 8 months ago. While we were visiting over the winter break, recently, we planned one of our days in Staunton around being able to stop in here for lunch and to pick up a couple of dozen tacos for family back at the cabin. I'm sad to report that this establishment appears to have gone downhill a bit, since our last visit back at the beginning of the year; there are some inconsistencies from previous visits: We ordered 3 tacos (steak, chicken and brisket): the tortillas seem to be a little smaller (much more like street tacos) than they were previously, but thick enough that they didn't fall apart. The protein portion sizes also appeared smaller, but the veggies were cut thicker. The steak was chewy, over cooked, and flavorless. The brisket appeared to have been sitting for quite awhile, it was overly seasoned and seemed much spicier than previous visits. The chicken taco was very tasty and didn't disappoint. The guacamole, chips and salsa verde were also very flavorful and consistent from the last visit. We also had the "Taters," which were also consistent with previous visits and very tasty, but much smaller in portion size than previously, which was utterly disappointing. The service also stood out as being inconsistent from previous visits. None of the staff smiled or displayed a welcoming hospitality. After being served, no one ever checked on us or asked how the meal was, even though we gave a 20% tip upon paying and before any food service was rendered. We weren't even thanked for being customers or for stopping by, as in the past we were always thanked. (This May sound petty, but small details like these make a huge difference) Maybe it was just a bad day at Chicano Boy and these inconsistencies were just anomalies...but with numerous competition establishments with in 30 miles of Chicano Boy, we opted not to order any tacos to go. We will try to visit again when we are here in the spring, and hopefully things will be better. read more

After a long drive, Chicano is exactly what I needed. I had the beef burrito bowl, grilled corn, and tres leches. The grilled corn was not as spicy as I expected but the flavors were present.
