The egg sandwich is my go-to and highly recommend! The desserts are also fresh and i've never had experienced a dessert that was stale which is nice. The cold brew is also great! Definitely one of my favorite spots for breakfast.

Housed in a repurposed old garage, McLain's runs like a well-oiled machine…read more It's always busy, but somehow never feels chaotic. Food moves fast. Coffee moves faster. Staff stays calm. Everything flows. It's organized chaos done right. The seasonal drinks are consistently creative and actually good. Not just pretty for Instagram. Balanced, thoughtful, and well executed. And the bakery? Dangerous. The display case is pure temptation. Cinnamon rolls, pecan twists, danishes, cookies, scones. Everything looks like the right choice, which makes choosing impossible. They also have solid brunch plates and sandwiches if you're trying to pretend you're here for something other than sugar and caffeine. Now for the one miss. I ordered the pepper jack breakfast burrito, and unfortunately, it didn't live up to the rest of the experience. Flat flavors, mushy texture, no real identity. The hot sauce was doing most of the work. It felt out of place in a spot that clearly cares about quality. Thankfully, the bakery and coffee saved the day. The pecan twist was flaky, buttery, and just sweet enough. The seasonal latte with cold foam was smooth, balanced, and dialed in. Overall, McLain's is a Kansas City staple for a reason. Efficient, welcoming, and consistently good at what they do. One menu tweak away from being near-perfect. Solid 4-star spot. Would happily come back.

Okay Modern Market, I see you…read more I was on the hunt for a healthy-ish spot for lunch (I mean, hello it is January), when I came upon Modern Market Eatery on Yelp. Upon doing some research I learned it's a scratch kitchen specializing in clean eats, and that it's a chain. A win for the health options, a ding for the chain, but not all chains are bad, an we are living in a time where there are some winners. So, I packed myself up and headed down the road to Prairie Village. It's still fairly new, and it has that squeaky clean feeling to it when you arrive. Inside it's counter service and you seat yourself (they will bring the food to you). It kind of reminded me of how Noodles and Company felt when they first became a thing way back in the early 2000s. I ordered a thai salad that came in at under 400 calories so I was honestly skeptical at how big or flavorful it would really be when it arrived, and holy cow was it good. The chicken was cold, but still held some flavor, the dressing was great, there were fresh veggies, pickled onions. It was one of the best 400 calorie meals I've had in a long time. My dad ordered the salmon curry and he also enjoyed his though I didn't try it so jury's out on my opinion! I left full and happy to have discovered this spot. I'll be back soon!

Even if they're stopping by to say "I'll be right with you" or to take a drink order. (That's good training) We like to try new menu items and so far have not been disappointed. Salads, sandwiches and entrees all have been tasty and satisfying. We also enjoy their specials. Burgers, steaks and seafood. My faves are in no specific order. Texas Club. French dip. Ruben. Salads. Meatloaf. Filet or strip Oskar wow! Soups. You go create your own favorites list. Also great curbside take out! A nice local place to go.

The crispy wonton skin that came with Thai Spicy Shrimp was stale. Tasted days old. Fried chicken on the salad was extremely dry and crouton was also stale. Half baby back rib was also very dry, but it did fell off the bone. And the coleslaw that came the rib was very bland. It needed some seasoning. It tasty like raw soggy cabbage. Although the food did not impressed us, service did! The restaurant was packed but Mason really took care of us. Constantly refilling our water and checked up on stuff. We left over 20% tips because it was well deserved. Hoping for better food experience next time!
