Easy 5 stars for a breakfast & coffee spot, especially if you want to go for something sweet. There's a wide variety of fresh pastries - my favorite being the cheese danish & almond cheese pocket. I always either get the breakfast burrito or one of the breakfast sandwiches. I would've posted a photo of the pastries....but I ate them too quickly! Restaurant is always clean and well kept. Service is friendly & fast - a bonus considering they've got a bunch of patrons and keep service up so you don't wait around.

Met my mom and sister-in-law for lunch here on a Saturday. We were actually easily able to find parking and a table! My latte was good ! I LOVED the chicken wrap - probably my favorite part! Food was good all around. Wasn't a big fan of the coffee bbq sauce but had to try! Overall, I enjoyed my experience but probably would be more likely to go drive thru if I come back ! :)

Housed in a repurposed old garage, McLain's runs like a well-oiled machine. It's always busy, but somehow never feels chaotic. Food moves fast. Coffee moves faster. Staff stays calm. Everything flows. It's organized chaos done right. The seasonal drinks are consistently creative and actually good. Not just pretty for Instagram. Balanced, thoughtful, and well executed. And the bakery? Dangerous. The display case is pure temptation. Cinnamon rolls, pecan twists, danishes, cookies, scones. Everything looks like the right choice, which makes choosing impossible. They also have solid brunch plates and sandwiches if you're trying to pretend you're here for something other than sugar and caffeine. Now for the one miss. I ordered the pepper jack breakfast burrito, and unfortunately, it didn't live up to the rest of the experience. Flat flavors, mushy texture, no real identity. The hot sauce was doing most of the work. It felt out of place in a spot that clearly cares about quality. Thankfully, the bakery and coffee saved the day. The pecan twist was flaky, buttery, and just sweet enough. The seasonal latte with cold foam was smooth, balanced, and dialed in. Overall, McLain's is a Kansas City staple for a reason. Efficient, welcoming, and consistently good at what they do. One menu tweak away from being near-perfect. Solid 4-star spot. Would happily come back.

Amy food for a coffee shop/cafe. Went there for the coffee and was blown away by their food. Super quick service. Very friendly. Clean a neat atmosphere. Plenty of seating. Had the chicken with biscuits and gravy. Superb. Also had the cream cheese danish with almond. Magnificent. Chocolate Mocha just top it off. Everything was great! Now get you some!!

I love McClains in Waldo in Kansas City, MO and inOverland Park KS but Lookie here! There another one in Shawnee KS with the same great food and bakery goodies. A big group called Joyful Community Over 50 got together to eat and chat. We had the back room which made it easy to hear one another. Loved my Bowl & shared a cup of tasty beautiful cookies! Thanks McLain's!

We were in the KS area for a long weekend trip and stopped at McLain's a couple of times. The pastry case was very tempting and I wanted to get one of everything. The McLain's iced latte was amazing. It's probably good I do not live closer otherwise I'd be stopping frequently to get a latte and something to satisfy my sweet tooth.

One of our favorite places around KC! Best food options, warmest people and fun little seasonal home goods to shop.

The ambiance is always lovely at McLain's and the service is pretty fast. I got the girl breakfast which has quickly become one of my favorite meals EVER. You get a little bit of everything and every bite is better than the last!

One stop shop for everything you need to get your morning started right. Buttery croissants? They got it! Freshly brewed coffee? They got it too! Delicious sandwiches? Many selections on their menu. Seriously, you can't go wrong here. My friend introduced me to their sugar cookies a few months ago. I fell in love. I am Asian. I don't like anything overly sweet. Their sugar cookies had just the right of sweetest to my liking. And that is a huge compliment coming from me! I love that is located in Shawnee Downtown and they have a lot of parking space. The space is very bright, clean, and spacious. All the staffs are friendly and helpful. Such a cute place to hang out with friends and family. Highly recommend.

I must say, I believe this is the best restaurant in Shawnee. It's becoming a favorite of ours as we've loved the food each time. This was our first time dining in for lunch and the atmosphere is great too. Friendly staff, an array of products sold, and a beautiful setup for lots of natural light to come in, you'll enjoy your time here. Personally, I love the amount of healthy options they have. This time I went with the harvest quinoa bowl. Very fresh with great ingredients.

This place always rocks. Great quality food. Quick service. Excellent for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Everything is good on the menu. Coffee is great. It can get a little loud when it's busy but I have also found it to be a good place to study during the slower times back when I was in school. It's a converted mechanic shop so it's kind of new age industrial

"Santa's Favorite Iced Latte" - holiday specialty item

McLain's Market has stood tall as one of my favorite local sit-in spots for a long time. Their coffee and snacks taste excellent. The staff's wide smiles and greetings create an inviting atmosphere. The prices don't range too far from that of Starbucks' menu, so not very expensive either. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to try something different than the usual franchises found here!

As I venture further into consulting and meet with more people, I'm less interested in simply asking, "Is this a good coffee shop?" and more interested in, "Who is this place good for?" I came to Prairie specifically looking for somewhere to collaborate. Good tables, enough room to spread out papers, sit across from someone, compare laptops and actually have a conversation without feeling like you're taking over the entire coffee shop. Urban Prairie absolutely fits that bill. What I wasn't expecting was how much more there was to it. There's a game store attached, which was such a cool surprise, plus another room with larger tables that would be even better for brainstorming or working with a small group. Then right in the middle you still get that classic cozy coffee shop atmosphere people actually want. Some people need a quiet corner and headphones. Some need a place to catch up with a friend. Some of us show up with two laptops, papers everywhere and ideas to work through. Urban Prairie gives you options for all three. I'm going to keep trying different coffee shops around KC with that mindset because sometimes the best review isn't whether a place is "good." It's whether it's the right place for what you need that day.

(Also if there is a line, power through it. They move very quick here) Maybe because we came on a Saturday, it was very crowded. We still found a seat but it is a little loud for a coffee shop. I enjoyed how they had some comfortable seating options tucked away in hidden corners to combat this. The portions are good sizes that match the quality of the items. The toast came on this very thick, in-house bread that was the star of the show. I wish there was a little more lemon or salt with the avocado, but it was still good none the less. My friend got a jam toast, which we both preferred over the avocado. As the the coffee, I about died it was so good. Don't judge Coca Cola and espresso until you have tried it! This is a drink that hasn't really made its way to the Midwest, so I was ecstatic when I looked on the season menu and saw that Dogtor's Orders featured cherry coke, espresso and cherry cold foam. It came out as pretty as it tasted, and I'm already thinking of my next one. When you stop by, definitely glance at the seasonal coffee board propped in front of the checkout. Those will be your best options and they don't last forever, so try it while you can. Only reason I didn't elevate this review to a five star is because the prices here are a little steep and can add up even more with modifications.

It's tucked away in a little corporate park and I bet the businesses near by lover having access to this coffee shop. I personally could see myself coming back with friends to get a coffee and enjoy a lovely walk around the pond! The space is good. It's got lots of seating (bar height, low tops and then couches) and they have a shaded patron for those who want to soak in some vitamin D! I will say that it's a little walk up from the parking lot, but they have ada accessible sidewalks so if you have a wheelchair or stroller it's not hard to get to. It's a little confusing where to access it best from the looping parking lots, but North lot seems the most direct. Now for the best part, the coffee and food items! I ordered from their seasonal menu (in Fall it's a must) and got the Apple Butter Latte over ice. I also got a sweet treat! All their baked goods are from Aurora Bakery, so a great partnership. They also have quiche and turkey sandwiches, but it's a popular quick lunch for people so don't be surprised if they sell out on you! Lastly, the woman working was a lovely. She was friendly and warm in greeting me; and the more we chatted about the space the more she seemed excited to tell me about it. Maybe it's the former barista in me, but I just never know what I'm gonna walk into. I was bit extra hesitant as I knew from reading reviews that this place was a bit off the beaten path, and as I routed myself there and found my car meandering through a suburban office parking lot maze I became even more nervous about my plan to work from here. All of that being said, once I got close to the coffeeshop itself I saw a sign clearly visible from the lot which was my first breath of relief. The signage is spectacular for a fairly hidden spot. Yes, you need to know it's here, but you will find it rest assured! If you don't see the sign keep hunting. The nice thing about it being in an office park is that there is ample parking. I was able to park and walk right in. The inside is modern but inviting, and at 9am I was able to have my pick of the tables. The day I was there was nice and I had my laptop so I went outside to their patio. I worked out there for about an hour and when I came inside to take a video call it was packed! I was able to snag a table and purchased a sparkling water before using their wifi (which was great!). Now to the coffee - I had a dirty chai and it was honestly wonderful. No notes. The baristas were friendly and overall I had a great time. Adding this to my list of great work spots in JOCO.

Since it was such a nice day, I decided to sit outside. My first sip immediately stood out because of the texture. It was probably the smoothest coffee I've ever had; silky, creamy, and almost pillowy on the tongue. Unfortunately, that's where most of my praise ends. The coffee itself tasted fine, but nothing about the flavor stood out, especially considering the price. I ordered a vanilla latte, but I couldn't taste any vanilla at all and got virtually no sweetness from the drink. Overall, it's not bad coffee by any means, and the texture was genuinely impressive.
