Garlicky Chicken Shawarma Bowl: Dressings: garlic (a little watery, just okay), skhug (underwhelming -- Trader Joe's version is better)
    Rohan K.

Tried CAVA for carryout and it reminded me of a Chipotle setup -- but fast-casual Mediterranean, with way more customization and no extra charges for dips/dressings. Big plus right away. I ordered two bowls: Garlicky Chicken Shawarma Bowl Base: romaine + saffron basmati rice (though the saffron flavor didn't come through) Dips: red pepper hummus, crazy feta Toppings: fire-roasted corn, pickled onions, cabbage slaw, tomato & onion, Persian cucumber Dressings: garlic (a little watery, just okay), skhug (underwhelming -- Trader Joe's version is better) Free pita on the side: warm but soggy, not crisp Build-Your-Own Grain Bowl Base: saffron basmati rice Dips: red pepper hummus, harissa, roasted eggplant Protein: spicy Italian meatballs (+$3.65) Same toppings as above Dressings: yogurt dill + hot harissa vinaigrette Same pita issue, but still worked as a scoop for the dips Overall, I love how many dips, toppings, and dressings you can layer in -- it makes the bowls feel fresh and personal. Protein prices vary, but for the quantity, freshness, and variety, I think it's reasonable. They also have unique drinks like pineapple mint, blueberry lavender, and cucumber mint lime. I didn't try one this time, but they sound refreshing and a great complement to the food -- definitely on my list for next visit. 3.5 rounded up to 4, as I just need to figure out my preferred dips and dressing combination.

I had never had Cava before this location opened up. Cava is a great place to have lunch or dinner and I really appreciate that it has healthy options. We have been trying to eat a bit healthier and Cava allows you to do that easily. Especially with their online ordering options you can build your own bowl and it tells you the nutritional information as you build your bowl. I also really appreciate the digital drive through (order online and pick up at side window) and their hours. I was surprised to see how late they were open. It is very nice when the day gets away from you that this is an option when everything else is closed.

Cava is fast and fresh and yummy and feels healthier than a lot of other casual places. Got the falafel bowl the other night and really loved it- overflowing with small falafel patties and lots of fresh veggies. Definitely get a side of their pita- it's warm and slightly crispy and I'm obsessed with it and want more right now!

Heard multiple great things about Cava - and just checked it out recently. The place was nonstop busy and packed. The menu has a great selection that is easy to figure out. We ended up with a grilled chicken pita and a spicy greens bowl. With two drinks and a cookie - coming in at $37. The pita was delicious with plenty of items on it - and soft bread - however it was insanely messy with the pure liquid dressing. Almost a water consistency that made it impossible to sit down in the puddle. The greens were a good healthy choice - however we read the menu wrong and thought it'd be served with rice. The beverage choices were off brand - which I wish I would have known that before paying $3+ for a drink or else I wouldn't have gotten one. The cookie was good but small for the price. Over all it was tasty. However for the price for two people - I think we would rather spend it somewhere else.

I stopped in at Cava for lunch today. It was very busy but the line was fast and I didn't have a long wait. It did get loud and we were lucky to find a spot to sit. I got the steak and feta pita wrap. This was a large amount of food that was very filling. It is messy so I would recommend getting plenty of napkins and a fork. I plan to return to try one of their salads.

Order at the counter. Select from their specialty bowls or fix your own. Healthy fresh ingredients. Casual dine in atmosphere.

A friend suggested we go here for a yummy meal: This place is fantastic! They have options for seemingly everyone--Vegan and Gluten-free folks might appreciate the variety. Went there around 6 on a Saturday night and it wasn't crowded. About 10 minutes later, there was a line and then continued to get busy. Their menu offers Chef-curated Pitas and Bowls, or one can make their own, which is what I chose to do. I got the bowl and they offered a complimentary half or quarter pita. Bases: I had RightRice and Basmati Jasmine Rice--there's an up-charge for the RightRice ($1.25). Tastes delicious but don't know if it's really worth it. They did not have romaine lettuce, but they had everything else. For the dips, you choose three, and the three I picked were delicious! They let me sample the Roasted Eggplant (think baba ganoush--very similar but slightly chunkier). Nice smoky flavor. Crazy Feta--has a wee bit of spice with the jalapeño and I thought it was yummy. Tzatziki was the last one I chose--played well with the other flavors. Mains: I had their falafel--I was a bit skeptical because some restaurants add too much tarragon or some anise (licorice flavored something anyway), which I truly dislike. Theirs was a nice change to that, and I'd get it again. I'm not vegan, nor vegetarian, but they offer such a variety I appreciated it. Toppings: ALL THE TOPPINGS!! Yep! You won't be disappointed. At the advice of my friend who joined me and who had been prior to this visit, said definitely add the salt-brined pickles--they were so good--and I'm not usually a fan of pickles generally speaking, i.e. I wouldn't eat them as a side with a sandwich but they're fine on a burger or in something and deep fried! The only thing I didn't add was the avocado--yep, there's an up-charge for that; at $2.35 I didn't think it would add much to the rest of the meal and figured might as well save some cash. Dressings: Had them on the side. As it happened, didn't really need them anyway, since melange of deliciousness in the bowl were enough to satisfy my tastebuds. That said though, the ones I picked wouldn't/didn't ruin it either. Lemon Herb Tahini and Balsamic Date Vinaigrette. My friend got the Garlic Dressing--akin to toum if you've had that. Yes, I'd totally go again. The folks behind the counter putting it all together were super helpful (me being a newbie) and so nice, letting us try samples. If you didn't get a chef-curated pita or bowl it might behoove you to check out their menu of choices--it can be overwhelming. They have an app that you could place a to-go order as well as earn loyalty points. My friend used it for both of our meals for points.

The story: Saturday errands turned into a spontaneous lunch outing. We had just heard our friends talking about how much they loved CAVA and since we had never tried it we decided it was time to see what the hype was about. Immediately upon parking, we could tell it was a popular spot in Overland Park. My order: I ordered the Harissa Avocado bowl on a bed of greens while my husband ordered the sweet and spicy chicken pita wrap! We also had a side of pita chips which would be a top recommendation from us now! The harissa chicken was extremely flavorful. Added with the hummus and tzatziki spread, it was a nice blend of spices. Service: servers were very quick and efficient. They were also extremely generous with their portions. Overall impression: I will definitely be back to try more on the menu. My husband, who is usually hesitant to trying new places, was even impressed with CAVA.

The salad, pita and hummus, came with the plate and everything was delicious. I tried the Kefta kabob plate with mixed meats. The meats were seasoned and cooked well and the tzatziki and spicy sauce were great compliments to the dish which was served over tasty rice. Our server checked on us frequently, filling our water each time. I also liked that it wasn't allowed environment, just some low conversation and some pleasant background music.

Basha Bash: I really wanted to love this spot. Based on the…read morestellar reviews, I was excited for a hidden Greek gem in the heart of OP, but unfortunately, our experience was far from an "Opa!" moment. The Service I arrived first and the place was nearly empty, yet the energy felt frantic. The server/ hostess was very rushed and business-like but seemed overwhelmed, running around like a chicken with her head cut off. After declining a black tea multiple times (once they realized they were out of chai), We had to practically stop her in mid-step for every follow-up once the rest of my party arrived. She never stopped on her own to ask us if we needed anything or if we were enjoying our meal. The Food The meal was a series of "weird" choices: The Hummus Situation: Our entrees were supposed to come with hummus, Rice and a side salad. Instead of serving The hummus with the entree, it was plopped onto the side salad plate before the entree arrived. I've eaten a lot of Mediterranean food, and I've never seen it served that way. The Garlic Sauce: This was a huge letdown. It looked and tasted like straight mayonnaise with a hint of garlic powder--not the authentic, pungent toum or A fresh bright white garlic sauce you'd expect. The tzatziki sauce might have been the best thing on the plate as it tasted fresh and authentic. The Meat: This was a Jekyll and Hyde as some of the meat was tender but some was overcooked and it was like that for everybody's meal whether they got beef, lamb or chicken. The Rice: Every entree was served over saffron rice that was dry, almost like it had been sitting out sunbathing for the day. The Falafel: Good crunch, but the inside was on the dry side. The Vibe As someone with a background in the industry, one thing really stood out: while our server was struggling to keep up with the only two tables in the restaurant, a cook with an apron was sitting in the lobby looking bored and disinterested. It's never a good look for staff to be lounging in front of customers regardless of how busy the restaurant is. Final Verdict Maybe it was just an off night, but for the price point, it doesn't compete. When you compare the quality and value to places like Meddys, Darna, or Mr. Gyros, this was extremely subpar. Sadly, I won't be rushing back.
