Meatloaf Muffin.
Tim D.

This is a quaint little house-turned-cafe along the Mississippi River. It has a garden out back. There's seating inside and on a patio/porch out front. This place was very full when we were here, and I was the only male. It attracts females, especially in groups. Therefore, don't expect manly-sized portions. You'll still get plenty to eat, you just won't be taking home extras. We ordered the Coconut Curry Shrimp and a Meatloaf Muffin. Both were served very hot and were quite tasty. We enjoyed the ambiance and the charm of the place. They also have a Sunday brunch which sounds pretty good. The food tasted fresh and homemade. I enjoyed the hearty, soft and moist buttermilk biscuit that came with my meal.

Best Flapjacks EVER (apologies for the half eaten pic!)

If you want the best flapjack ever to be consumed, go to Chickadee Cottage! Light, fluffy, tasty, and filling! My apologies for the half eaten photo! It was spectacular! The American breakfast is an all American classic!

Some kind of egg tostada with avacados & veggies. Wifey loved it!

Wifey and I have eaten here twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch. I had the morning meatloaf and eggs breakfast, which was something I had never seen before. The meatloaf was formed in the shape of a muffin, with cheesy potatoes on top. It also came with a buttermilk biscuit, two lightly poached eggs and a slice of fresh pineapple on the side. It was delicious! Wifey had some kind of egg dish with avacados and other assorted veggies. I forget the name now, but it was the special of the day. She loved it! During our lunch visit, I had the Cubano burger. But not being much of a burger guy, I ordered it with just the ham and no beef. I was really hungry after a long morning out on the boat, so this was just the ticket. It was a hearty, tasty Cubano! Wifey had the Baja wrap sans the chicken. She said it was loaded with flavor and was a delicious, healthy lunch. The restaurant is actually an old house, and has a quaint, small town charm about it. The dining area was quiet and intimate, without being stuffy. Service was exemplary, and you don't have to wait long to get your food. Very enjoyable experience every time we've been there. Chickadees is definitely worth a try if you're in the area, or are looking for an interesting new place to drive to. Did I mention that it's right across the street from Lake Pepin? Nice view!

Awesome food and service. It's a quiet setting with all you can eat breakfast on Sundays for a reasonable price. Their hash browns are phenomenal.

I was absolutely thrilled when I discovered Café de Paris in Apple Valley. It's surprisingly…read moredifficult to find a truly high-quality bakery around here, and after one too many supermarket "French" baguettes and bake-at-home loaves, this place was exactly what I'd been looking for. The bread is fantastic--crusty, fresh, and authentically French. They also have an incredible selection of beautiful pastries, cakes, and other classic French treats that look like they came straight out of a Parisian pâtisserie. And the coffee is absolutely exquisite. One thing that always makes me smile is that while the pastries look and taste authentically French, they're definitely American-sized! They're enormous. If you're hungry, you're in for a treat. More often than not, I'll enjoy half of one there with a coffee and take the rest home in a box for later. It's a wonderful little café with a relaxed atmosphere and a great place to sit and unwind. If you're in the Apple Valley area and looking for something a little different--something with a genuine European feel--I can't recommend Café de Paris highly enough. I'll definitely keep coming back.

Honestly, I didn't think the place would live up to what I had seen ahead of time. The croissants…read morewere fantastic! I only stopped at the counter, checked out the offerings, and picked up a few things to go. The place was nice and charming but the seating didn't look too comfortable. Listen, it's not about the chairs. This is a gem of a cafe with excellent baked goodies and desserts. Indulge and enjoy!
