This was my first time visiting the place, and I immediately regretted it. I noticed the staff in the back--Mexican workers--being treated poorly, with a large man at the register raising his voice at them for no apparent reason. The food is below average although the chicken was decent it's really not the best prepared nor cooked it's seemed as if the oil it was cooked in was also beyond its life expectancy. Got the southern fried, teriyaki, and spicy bbq wings from here to share with some friends and they were pretty good! Some of us preferred the spicy bbq while others preferred the teriyaki, depends on your taste. The southern fried had a nice crispy skin but we wished it had a bit more flavor - maybe more seasoning could be added to the breading? The 3 boxes of wings we got were a good amount to share amongst 5 people - there were supposed to be 18 wings per box but they threw in some extra which we appreciated! I can't write this review without first addressing the most blatantly false item on their menu: Throughout their menu you will see "Colossal Shrimp" listed. Being that they've been around for a while, one assumes that they know what the definition of "Colossal Shrimp" is. Shrimp are sized according to how many would be in a raw pound. Colossal shrimp are defined as having 15 or less shrimp per pound, making them deserving of their name. Very often huge tiger prawns are used when cooking "Colossal Shrimp." I'm sure a quick google search can show the definition. The item I'm referencing is called "Colossal Lightly Bread Shrimp." They we're definitely NOT colossal, not even jumbo, but closer to large. I often say in my reviews that I spent 25 years working in the restaurant industry, many of which were in management roles. I'm aware that I say it too often, but there's a reason I say that. That reason is to show that I most definitely know what I'm talking about when it comes to food. These shrimp were HEAVILY breaded to fluff them out and make them look like colossal shrimp. One bite and I knew immediately that I had been scammed by that description. (Pictures included) The WORST PART of it is that we were charged $23.95 for 9 of these ANEMIC shrimp! That's an insult, truly, to try to get one over on your customers like that. I have NO PROBLEM paying that much for actual COLOSSAL SHRIMP and I was FURIOUS when I saw what I was duped with. Ok, with that out the way I'll now discuss the rest of the items we ordered. Note that, when I order from a place for the first time I usually order a variety of different items off the menu so as to get a few examples of what they offer and how good they are at making them. Their chicken is average. Nothing amazingly fantastic with the flavor being on the blander side. Every now and then there would be a small pop of flavor, a little pocket of flavor here or there on the chicken; usually a sign that the chicken wasn't properly coated with flour and spices. It wasn't horrible, but it definitely was far from amazing. Honestly the chicken is one of the few items that brought this up to a 2 star review instead of only 1 star. The thing is, if you call yourself Chicken Galore, that chicken better taste freaking amazing. Some of their snacks were average, below average and typical. I'll start with the better of them: the jalapeño poppers. They were actually the best item of all the items we ordered. Then again, how hard can it be to take a prepackaged, frozen item and toss it into the fryer for a few min? The cream cheese stuffed ones were delicious and something you don't see very often anymore as cheddar stuffed ones have become the default with most establishments. They are the second item that saved this review from being a 1 star review. Their corn nuggets were average but not horrible. The potato pancakes were over done, very small, probably also frozen and pre made, and served with only applesauce but none of the sour cream that was described as coming with them. The mashed potatoes were instant, VERY instant. There are some good quality instant mashed potatoes out there, and for what they charge, you would think they'd have chosen one of them. The gravy was average, probably also from a jar. The corn on the cob was over done, squishy and water logged with a touch of what tasted like margarine. I had to use my own butter and salt on it to make it somewhat palatable but even then I was only able to eat half of it before throwing it out. They claim all food is freshly made to order. The Chicken Pot Pie. Wow. Can it even be called that? It was as if they opened a can of progresso chicken noodle soup, threw it in an aluminum bowl and threw a piece of dough on top. AWFUL. I wish I had taken a picture of it. There's soooo many items on their menu that I was really looking forward to trying, it all seemed so promising. Sadly I was delivered a flop. The food delivery did arrive hot, and on time, which is another reason it didn't get one star. Such a shame, really, to be so disappointed. I went in with an open mind, as I always do, but quickly got shut down by disappointment after disappointment. One of my personal rules is to avoid restaurants on a Mondays because many restaurants staff their "B" team. Well, this B team most certainly dropped the ball. Because it was a Monday, I will try them again on a day later in the week. I prefer to wait until I've eaten at a place three times before writing a review, but I couldn't let all of this go unsaid. Another personal rule of mine is to always just order what the restaurant specializes in and not the other items thrown on the menu to fill it out with variety. Next time I'll stick to chicken and other items they claim to specialize in. Chicken Galore, thank you for your timely and hot delivery; I just wish it could've been a satisfying and pleasing meal. Instant potatoes -- In my opinion, no way are these fresh mashed potatoes. If you don't believe me, buy a instant mix from the supermarket and do a taste test comparison with a side of real mashed potatoes on the side. Gravy was bland. We thought a chicken place would make good gravy and potatoes, so we got a large container of it. We tossed what we couldn't finish. Sweet and sour sauce, orange liquid too thin and tasted chemical. The bright orange color should have scared me off. Ribs were dry and old, my husband didn't want to finish it. 10 piece dark meat -- OK, this WAS super good. I can tell chicken must be their specialty and highlight of the establishment. The chicken is so good and juicy and fresh -- I took a bite and chicken juices literally flew out -- it's a shame the sides aren't better. It would be an epic meal if that were the case. Also, these weren't heavily fried. A little bit of crunch of the skin when you're biting into it, but not excessively breaded and deep fried. When you place an online order you have some options for your chicken: If you want to be healthier, they seem to promote that. Fried / Fried Skinless Roasted / Roasted Skinless BBQ / BBQ Skinless Nuggets and mac and cheese were generic -- seemed like were frozen packs and simply reheated. I sort of expected this though, so it's not a huge deal. Friendly delivery guy with accurate delivery estimate. Don't love the $2 delivery fee even after we spent $55 Would come back if I was craving chicken. Love that they offer online ordering as it makes it more convenient. Good Fried chicken!!! Large menus frighten me, and There's lots of choices on the menu, but why would I order anything other than chicken from a place with "chicken" in the title. Lol. My chicken was freshly fried, unlike big name chicken places that pile their pre-fried chicken in a window. And It was seasoned well. The look of the place was far from fancy, maybe that's why when I was given a list of places to eat in the area, this wasn't on it. It was too rainy to leave the office so we utilized the online ordering system and ordered for a pretty large group deliver to the office. 5 stars for the simplicity in ordering. Only miss that is that we had to pay cash when the delivery person arrived - it worked out for us but may not be the case for everyone. Just something to remember. I'll give them that it was pouring rain and Thursday may be a busy delivery day but it took about an hour for the food to arrive and it was definitely all cold. I am forgiving the coldness and the delivery delay and just focusing on the tasty foods here.. I really enjoyed my buffalo chicken tossed salad - the chunks of breaded chicken were fresh and good sizes, the lettuce was chopped well and nice a crispy, and the tomatoes were also cut nicely. Their fried chicken is unique and delicious. The chicken seems batter dipped and fried in a pressure cooker leaving a beautiful mahogany skin. The wings are also excellent, not crispy like the fried chicken more of a fall off the bone kind of approach. I enjoy spicy food and their "hottest" flavor wings do pack quite a kick. read more

I also tried their Mac and Cheese bites based on their recommendation, they were absolutely delicious, but nothing can touch their corn nuggets, they are absolutely to die for! Been coming here since I was kid and will continue to when I'm craving fried chicken. Just a note: there really isn't breading on the chicken, I believe it's just the skin that is deep fried. Which to me enhances the chicken flavor, it's suppose to be dark and crunchy including the white meat. Great staff, tasty food, and a really large menu selection for everyone. Don't come here hungry with the expansive menu though, you will buy those mini tacos, jalapeno poppers, and cheese broccoli bites without blinking! Love this place! read more

So I was out looking for chicken and I stopped in here not knowing what to expect when I ordered my 10-piece Roasted Chicken (which I thought was great) I didn't know what to expect simply because I had to wait 20 minutes because he clearly stated WE COOK THE CHICKEN FRESH as I left the store the only thought that crossed my mind is how are you going to roast a chicken even in pieces fresh in 20 minutes YOU'RE NOT...however I gave him the benefit of the doubt.... Simply because when I walked in everybody was standing around so I thought maybe they do cook it fresh, so on the way home I smell the chicken and it smelled absolutely fantastic but when I got it home and I ate it I was not surprised at how disappointed I was, okay well maybe a little bit... But the chicken was DRY AS A BONE there is no way possible that he cooked this chicken fresh, that just didn't happen, I also got potato salad which I thought tasted awful because it was sweet... Needless to say the staff was great building was run down of course would I return here? maybe not... if I was out in the area quite possibly so but I would not make an effort to come here like I did today... it's just not worth my time or my money on top of the fact that an 8 piece chicken is literally one chicken they sell it for $18.89 I'm sorry but what a rip off... My mother-in-law wanted ribs for her birthday and asked us to just get them from Chicken Galore. I was against the idea because their chicken is horrible. Well, the ribs are worse. They were drenched in a sauce but the sauce was odd. I can't quite place my finger on it. Maybe because it seemed to be less of a traditional BBQ sauce and more of a really horrible attempt at an Asian rib sauce. I dont know. It was just...interesting. The ribs were pretty skimpy on meat but they were at least cooked okay. Not too overcooked but still overcooked. Thankfully my wife's family has stopped going here for chicken, now I just have to get them to never go here again for ribs. This is one of those places that is living off of decade old hype. This place is usually described as. "When i was a kid this place was awesome!" Whatever changes they've made are definitely for the worse, I cant imagine them ever having been good. Great wing spot in Woodbridge NJ, can't believe it took me so long to find a good naked hot wing. My wife and I like extra hot wings with no breading and they have the perfect ones. Scott and his staff are also very friendly and aware of doing a job for positive reviews. When I walked in they were actually talking about a good review they got and how excited they were. The pulled pork lunch special was also really good too. The extra hot wings are excellent and we would like it even hotter next time! Have been ordering from here for about ten years and my kids love the chicken, but I have to say I'm over getting nickel and dimed by them. Several years ago, they changed their policy and said that we needed to spend at least thirty dollars to receive a delivery, ok we usually spend around that anyway, but even when we were close (like $28), they would say it has to be $30...sigh, ok we would have to order something we didn't need or want to make up the difference. Now we ordered this week and they tell us that they will charge us a four dollar delivery fee. So we assumed that $4 replaced the $30 minimum order, but NOPE still have to spend $30, PLUS pay a delivery fee. Seriously?!?!? Maybe start using Eat24 or Uber eats rather than a driver if it costs you too much, then so you can save your customers. We continued with our order and ended up ordering $75 worth of food, but don't think we will be back which is a shame because we like to support local businesses, but they have to want our business and Chicken Galore doesn't seem to want it but plenty of other restaurants will deliver a thirty dollar meal and be happy with delivering it free of charge. read more

Doesn't really look like much when you pass it, but it's hands down the best fried chicken you can get. Cooked to perfection! It's been a staple in Woodbridge as far back as I can remember. The owner is hard working and hands on, he remembers people easily, the rest of the staff are always smiling and courteous. Usually we love our Galore dinners...but tonight has been a disaster. First the "new guy" got our order wrong which we didn't realize till my wife arrived home. Called the shop and they said they would deliver the correct meal. Almost 45 minutes later still no dinner...and we literally live down the road from them. So the delivery guy shows up and as I'm asking him about the delayed delivery he says he didn't have an apartment number. We don't live in an apartment, it's a townhouse with our street address clearly displayed on the front garage door. Then as I hand him the money for the correct meal he gets an attitude about the lack of a tip. We had a healthy tip ready despite having to pay for a replacement meal but when he arrived almost an hour later from the first conversation with the owner or manager I felt a tip should have been the least of his concerns. My wife called as she thought the attitude of the delivery person was unacceptable especially when you're supposed to be making good on an order your business messed up. Apparently the manager/owner who spoke with her upset her and she hung up saying we're done dining there. Shortly afterwards we received a call from the manager/owner Scott who apologized and sounded sincere as I eavesdropped on his conversation with my wife. I'm glad he took the effort to clear things up for we've enjoyed their food for well over a decade and perhaps this mishap will never become the norm for Chicken Galore. Had dinners from there for delivery and pickup on a few occasions during Winter of 2017/2018 while staying at a nearby hotel for work. Chicken was good, but on at least one occasion very dry (white meat), was never exceptional but never terrible either. Delivery times were not too bad but never fast considering the short distance (1 mile away), averaged around an hour over the course of 4-6 deliveries. Called in for pick up one time, to hopefully speed up the process, but was not worth it, waited near a half hour past time (20 minutes) they said the small order would be ready. Did like the corn nuggets, and overall the chicken meals were decent. I was never disappointed by the overall quality of food. Tried the ribs and shimp one time during a large group meal, good but considering the cost average at best. Props for having a very large menu besides just chicken, and if I were stuck in an extended-stay hotel nearby for long would definitely order delivery from them on occasion. Have tried a few chicken joints further south in/near new hometown of Asbury Park recently, and they are about the same quality (but better pricing), seems fried chicken isn't a standout here in Jersey compared to the Midwest or South, but am sure there are some great places somewhere in the state that seems to have everything food-wise. read more

Pros: THE CHICKEN. Chicken Galore is your trusty, go-to fried chicken restaurant. Their fried chicken is unique and delicious. Don't sleep on the roasted whole chicken with potatoes either, that is one of the better rotisserie style chickens I've ever had. I have to also praise their buffalo wings. No frills here, just good ol' crispy wings slathered and hot, hotter or hottest buffalo sauce. Cons: Pretty much everything else. Their mashed potatoes of the instant variety and are quite terrible. Their french fries are also beyond lack luster (c'mon guys you FRY chicken... don't be afraid of salt). Don't go near the burgers here, they taste more like meatloaf than burger (and not in a good way). Pretty much every wrap or sandwich that I have ever had from here has been bad. From what I gather the place is owned/run by two brothers... one of which if quite friendly and personable, the other comes off as rude and miserable. Back in college, I used to go to a fried chicken place up in Binghamton, NY. It was the best fried chicken I ever had, until I tried Chicken Galore. Every once in a while I get an immense craving that has to be satisfied. When I get that, I go to Chicken Galore. I haven't had their other food, so I cannot comment. I went back here after being contacted by the owner. My wife and I had the baby back ribs and fried chicken with crinkle cut fries. I must say, this time around was a night and day experience from the last time. The ribs fell off the bone, but were not overcooked. The chicken was meaty, and not spitting hot grease. The portion of fries was huge, and nice and crispy. While this still isn't my favorite batter for fried chicken, I'd recommend you try it because it is different than other places and all taste buds are different. Definitely try the ribs. The fries needed salt, but the way they are served you can add as much or as little as you want. I want to thank Scott for contacting me and being so professional about this.
