Chicken Holiday has always been a family feast for us. As children, my parents would come home with a bucket of chicken and everyone was happy. Our childhood Chicken Holiday in Edison has been closed for so long. With all the chicken restaurants around we forgot about Chicken Holiday but recently have found one last year and have ordered a couple times to feed the entire families. We still always order a big bucket of chicken, corn nuggets, mushroom bites, cole slaw, mashed potato and french fries with a pot of white rice waiting at home. I will always love Chicken Holiday, their chicken is cooked in a pressure cooker and is always so crispy, juicy and tender. I am starting to crave it now just writing about it. All the sides are delicious and so flavorful. It is all made to order so you do not get old food that has been sitting under a lamp like KFC. So, be patient and give the one and only employee a break to qcook everything up for you nice and fresh. The restaurant itself is not the most attractive. It looks like they have been there for a very long time and due for an upgrade but I have never sat down to eat at any Chicken Holiday ever anyway. Chicken Holiday is completely hit and miss but if you like deep fried everything including the napkins then you're home. Unfortunately, the chicken is so saturated with oil that my face erupted with acne and blackheads just looking into the bucket. We have come here before once or twice a year since is a good 20/25 min drive. Back in the day we had a Chicken holiday 3/5 min away and loved it. Anyways we called in a big order that ran a little over hundred dollars, the owner was very chatty with us when we arrived and ended waiting another 5 to 10 mins The next day, after looking at the receipt, we noticed we were away overcharged, after finally contacting the owner we told him we would be on our way over to resolve this bill. When I arrived, I asked him how we would resolve this over billing for us. He said I could credit you with chicken holiday the overcharge. at first I thought he was kidding. How do you suggested it a second time and said he did not want to void the receipt. He kept insisting for the credit card, and the receipt, after his comments was not sure I want to give the credit card again, and said I will resolve it with a credit card company, as soon as I said that he got all nervous and defensive, and agreed to resolve it the way I wanted to in the first place. All in all food was OK. Chicken was dry. Food was very oily. Nothing like the old chicken holiday. We used to go to. Called to place order and the man who answered the phone didn't even say it was chicken holiday, just said hello. Had to ask if I was calling right place. Anyway, food wasn't what it used to be. The man was very nice but I noticed, when I was leaving, a plate that was covered in little flies, like fruit flies. I've never seen so many flies. I remember when the experience was great. I walked into this ghost town and I instantly felt regret. After reviewing some other reviews, it looks like a common trend. The business is not claimed so chances of them seeing this and actually caring are slim. It seems to be a common trend where the person behind the counter is impatient and rude. I reviewed the menu and wanted to do a combo deal. Can change anything or substitute. Ok, no problem I'm not that ridiculous. However, they can't give me mashed potatoes without gravy. I was so confused. Doesn't come that way he said. Ok sure! I've only been ordering one with and without way before you became an owner of chicken holiday. The fried chicken was made to order. Perfect! I don't mind waiting for fresh hot chicken. The chicken is cooked in pressure cookers so it stays nice and juicy and crispy on the outside. The food was spot on. No regrets with that. The cleanliness is a little disgusting. The tables are dirty and have probably never seen a wet towel in a long time. The salt and pepper shaker look like they've been rolling around on the floor. The ketchup bottle is crusty and old as well. Like cmon! Take some pride in owning your own food establishment and do yourself a favor and do a deep clean. Your customers will instantly notice the difference. I won't be back. I'll go to another location where maybe someone there takes pride in what they do. I do t recommend this place to anyone unless you order takeout. Get in and get out before your eyeballs pop out of your head and your jaw hits the floor. I love CH, but this was probably the worst one I've ever been to. I only saw 1 elderly African American man working, and I could tell he was also the one that took my order over the phone. Honestly felt pretty bad for the guy. The ribs were overdone to the point you didn't need to chew. The bbq sauce over the top was too much, too sweet and generally just terrible. These were just all kinds of bad. The chicken had that signature flavor, but was put in a box that basically sealed itself shut, so the chicken steamed all the crispyness right out . Super disappointed. Every other CH I've been to has crinkle cut fries. This place did not. Overall, every other CH I've ever been to is doing it better than this place. Also, parking in this strip mall was surprisingly sparse. Bottom line, check out another CH to get your chicken. read more

5 stars for the food. The hot wings and mild wings (sauced) are great. The best hot wings around the area. Super spicy for the hot wings and w enough sauce to cover every bit of the Wing. The fried chicken is tasty w just enough crunch. I ordered from there about a year ago and didn't think it was so great but within the last few months it's been so good we've been going back and getting big orders for parties. The person who picks up the phone isn't the best but I think there's only one person that works there so you have to be patient. Although service isn't that great, isn't not bad that it keeps me away. It's a small place so it's understandable if they don't get extra help. ok so I ordered a 4 piece chicken with a side of mashed potatoes and a small snack clam strip with fries, the food was horrible. The mashed potatoes were so dry and the gravy was stuck on the bottom of the container. The clam strips were like 6 little pieces in the container with probably 6 fries. The food here is pretty good. Ordered pick up which only took 25 mins. for 15 buffalo wings and a medium order of fried cauliflower. Both were pretty tasty but I would definitely recommend the fried cauliflower over the wings, as they weren't the best I've ever had but great if you're craving wings and don't want to go out to eat. There is only one person working and it was soo hot in the place when we walked in to pick up our order (granted it was about 85 degrees outside but they definitely do not have air conditioning) so I would definitely recommend getting your food to go. Also, the place takes cards but I guess only over a certain amount? Terrible experience. I put in a small order on Grub Hub. I never used that service so I called restaurant to ask a question. When person working there heard it was only about an $5 order he said no credit card. Only cash. It's during the pandemic and I'm not touching cash. I said I'd add more food. I went back to Grub Hub on computer and added a tub of ribs. I gave Grub Hub my credit card number and order was placed. In a short while, worker from Chicken Holiday called me to say they were out of ribs. He told me to go back to Grub Hab and cancel my order. I tried but I could find no way to cancel. They also put in an old email address for me so they couldn't even get in touch with me. So now they have confirmed my order that cannot be filled but they have all my credit card information. I always walked by this place because it looks like a dump, respectfully. However, I needed to get some food ASAP because I had an irritated girlfriend that needed tending to; so I decided to give it a try. I walked in and I already had a bad feeling because it was so dirty. It's probably mostly a takeout restaurant, but it was so gross that I could feel the sticky grime under my shoes. Also, there was no one at the desk so I rung the bell. Normally, I wouldn't have minded because I've worked at restaurants before and I know a lot goes into it, when understaffed especially, so you can't always be at the front desk. After I rung the bell I heard a voice scream from the back "HOLD ON IM WATCHING THE GAME", and even more the game was actually playing on the tv out in the main area too! After 5 minutes of waiting he came out and asked me "what do you want" quite rudely. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. I went to pay and then I was informed that both of the credit card machines didn't work and I had to ask my already mad girlfriend for cash. Not good. And he then told me I had to wait 10 minutes for what was one of the worst sandwiches I've ever had. I could've gone to Wendy's and gotten something cheaper (it was 7 dollars) and better tasting. The sandwich had less than 10 strands of lettuce on it, all of which was brown and gross. It looked like it was garbage lettuce, like the kind you see if you throw it out and look in the garbage 15 days later. The chicken itself was so salty that it was like he spilled the entire shaker on it and then put on a little more. I could literally feel the grains of salt between my teeth. I actually went to get a pastrami sandwich at Lox Stock and Deli when I walked past Chicken Holiday. The sign said best chicken and ribs. As many do. I peeked inside and it was very clean, but definitely a dive. I love dives. I ordered the combo 5 ribs and 8 pieces of chicken. The owner told me he was from Louisiana. He grumbled that there was a price increase on my order. No problem. I took the food in my car and just wanted a sample before driving home. The ribs fell off the bone and were meaty and delicious.
