as a few people have said, i'd been past this place a bunch of times and was never really intrigued to stop in. starving one day, i gave in not expecting much and was blown away. i live in mount greenwood now and will honestly travel to the north side just to eat here whenever i get the urge. my suggestion if you're going in - half chicken with rice (i get an extra salsa). the salsa/rice/chicken combo for me is awesome!!!! one of the city's true hidden gems. read more

This place is damn good if you're looking for a quick meal in a fast food joint. The chicken is very juicy, and the spices used compliment the mashed potatoes very well. I try to go there once a week IF I can find parking. Traffic is a pain in the a$$ though. read more

I love, Love, LOVE random eateries like this.. susie's drive in, chicken hut, the little taco bar in a mexican grocery store in Indiana, Portland's many many food carts- speaking of which, Potato champion- I miss youuuuuuuu!! (if you don't know, look that bitch up.. you can choose from a vast array of dipping sauces too) etc.. I have to say though, that I'm more of a fan of their pita bread and potato salad. Mmmm that potato salad is good and flavorful, yet simple. I mean it looks like the run of the mill potato salad you can get at a deli but I LIKE it. I just keep on running into bland potato salad out there- don't make me name names. Yet. The first time I went, I received white meat without requesting it and was not all too happy about that because it was on the dry side. They have on their menu stating that requests for white meat is an additional 70 cents mmmk. I kind of had to douse it with the salsa they give you on the side. Other people on here say that their coleslaw tastes like KFC? We'll see about that! -- because I'm a fan of KFC's coleslaw. I've just been too addicted to their potato salad as an accompaniment to their chicken and pita bread so I haven't been able to deviate from my usual plans at the chicken hut yet. Fast, cheap eats.. and very filling. I always end up ordering up extra pita bread. Soft, warm, squishy, mmmmmmm. And I wipe that up with potato salad. Elegant, no? read more

One of the only good things I remember about living in Lakeview was being close to Chicken Hut. The prices are amazing for what you get and unlike some places where you get a lot for little its actually really good. Even if I don't go in I love walking by and seeing the chicken cooking away all in row in the window. Something about that makes me smile though I'm sure vegetarians are pissing their pants. read more

For fans of Boston Market (or Boston Chicken, whatever they're calling themselves now) Chicken Hut's chicken is very similar, but better! A lot less salt and sugar in the marinade but otherwise tastes almost identical. Chicken Hut is very no-frills compared to Boston Market, however. No tasty cornbread, but the pita that comes with the chicken is decent. Otherwise the "sides" are not great -- supermarket style mass-produced potato salad and cole slaw. They also have mashed potatoes, rice and corn on the cob, but I didn't try those. Just go for the chicken and you won't be disappointed. Cheap prices and fast, friendly service! read more

Not the place for a Friday night date--but if good, hearty roast chicken is what you crave (rarely a time when I DON'T have such a craving) --then Chicken Hut delivers. Break off a piece of the warmed pita, throw some chicken on it, and top off with the always-fresh-salsa they give you, for a tasty bite. repeat until everything is gone. My gross room mate eats this pretty much every day, and according to my fridge, the leftovers to not keep well. I had the rice there once, and it was really bad. One can see from the huge plate glass window that chicken germs and bacteria are just dancing across the giant grill. If you like intestinal distress, then this place is for you. read more

I've been frequenting the Chicken Hut since I moved into the neighborhood. It's a solid choice for crazy fast, crazy cheap take out. For under five bucks, you can get a quarter chicken, a drink and a side (I usually get the mashed potatoes). By the time you fill up your drink, your order is ready. In, out, on with life, and it tastes good. Five stars for that. I will say, however, that Nick's Pit Stop over in Bucktown is better. Same kind of chicken prepared the same way, but their sides options are better, and their sauce is tastier. But I digress. Five bucks, fast, tasty. Stop by sometime. read more

I was starving as I passed the chicken hut ... it was either Chipotle's long line across the street or a quick eat here. Well, this place was decent. The chicken is by far better than that gross KFC and a couple notches above El Pollo Loco ... but there isn't much else to report. They don't have any healthy alternatives for the sides and the place is pretty run down. This being said ... it'll definitely do the job to provide for a pretty decent chicken. read more

Whenever I need chicken for cooking, such as for chicken salad or chicken chili, I pick one up from Chicken Hut. Sure it looks a little sketchy from the outside. But I figure it's safer than picking up food from somewhere where no one can see what's really going on in the kitchen. I'm always afraid that I will undercook my chicken, so I end up cooking it until it's dry as a bone. Chicken Hut is awesome because their chickens are so moist and delicious! I have been going to Chicken Hut since I moved to Chicago in 2002. It was one of the first places I was a regular at, either when I lived down the street or when I drove for work and stopped in multiple times a week for lunch. It is no frills chicken, mashed potatoes, rice, coleslaw and a drink. It's pretty self explanatory if you walk by and see the chickens in the window. It is hands down my favorite place to eat in the city, like a comfort food, and a place I always hit when friends or family are in town visiting. There are issues, like cash only and the neighborhood can drag in some weirdos, but it's nothing at all that'll keep you away from here. And as a weekly customer for over 10 years, I've never once heard a homophobic slur or anything in my time there. I've always witnessed every employee treat everyone the same, they wont roll out the red carpet for you, but they get you your food fast and accurately. I have been eating at the Hut on and off for years now and I often wonder why I come back over and over. I think it's because I can have my food ready for me faster than I can have my money out to pay the cashier. However, I feel like the chicken is under cooked at times and the plates are just thrown together to simply push people out the door. they charge extra for everything where it should just be a free of charge substitute. For being on the corner of Belmont and broadway, the Chicken hut should put a little more effort in their bird. read more

Wonderful service. This place is faster than fast food and best of all it is fresh. You literally see the chicken on the grill and they gave you a lot of food for the price. Taking a stroll back to the car around lunch time and decided I would eat at where ever the smells were coming from. Turns out it was the Chicken Hut. My sniffer was right on, this place was good. Nice moist chicken with a great chared/roasted flavor. The seasoning on the chicken was nice and jazzed it up. Decent sides, I swear the slaw is the same stuff KFC has. It also comes with pita and a tomato salsa, kind of an odd combo, but it was good none the less. Glad I stumbled upon it. I absolutely love Chicken Hut! From the moment I moved into the neighborhood about a year ago, I knew I had to try it. I have now been there so many times that I have lost count. The chicken is consistently delicious, and the price is reasonable. Service is also extremely fast.
