If you order the mashed potatoes, you will need to add your own seasoning, the corn on the cob is mushy, and I could do without the pita and salsa. Mmmm, good schtuff. We grabbed dinner from Chicken Hut last night and it was a tasty treat. My husband and I both got the half chicken, with corn and mashed potatoes, he got salsa with his chicken and I got bbq sauce. The chicken was moist, juicy and very well seasoned. The sides were eh, okay at best. Corn was water logged, mashed potatoes tasted like they were from a box but what can ya do? Both the orders came with the pita which was very good. Toasted on the grill with some butter. For dessert we both got the rice pudding which was delish! One of the best grilled chickens in Chicago. This is not an upscale restaurant, the place is perfect for chickens to go. They have ample tables if you want to dine in too. The greek style chicken is grilled then served with pita bread, salsa and a choice of side. ( rice, coleslaw or mashed potatoes) Remember to bring cash, they dont accept cards. If you are two, i recommend buying the whole chicken than buying a quarter for each. Its a big savings! read more

I absolutely love this place! You get great food for a very fair price. For example, half a chicken, 2 pitas, mashed potatoes, corn on the cab plus a soft drink will run you about $13. Crazy! The place is far from fancy, you have a long counter along the window, and 2 or 3 small tables if I remember correctly. The guys behind the counter are always friendly and get my food ready quick. The parking situation can be tricky, but I usually get my food to go anyways so I run in and out hoping for no ticket. Their chicken is literally a Ferrari amongst other chickens. I work nearby and decided to try this place for lunch. I ordered the quarter chicken special for $9.15 (after tax), which comes with quarter of a chicken, one side, pita, salsa, and a drink. The portion was more than enough for me and the price was decent. After reading the sign in the store that said it would cost extra to get white meat in the quarter chicken special I was under the impression that it would be predominantly, if not all, dark meat. Why else charge more for white meat? Well, I was greatly disappointed when I opened my box to discover it was ALL white meat. I generally dislike white meat because whenever I order it I always get chicken that is dry, overcooked, or flavorless. And this was no exception. The skin was yummy, but the chicken was dry and bland. Not to mention, why should anyone have to pay extra for all white meat if the meal is all white meat anyway? For a side I got the mashed potatoes and they were a bit blah. I ate them but they weren't anything special. I feel they should have a wider selection of side items to choose from. A lot of people don't like cold salads, such as potato salad or coleslaw. My husband is one of those people and he also happens to hate rice. That leaves just mashed potatoes and corn for someone like him. And considering how sub-par their mashed potatoes are it would be nice if they had other options, such as french fries, mac and cheese, baked beans, or other veggies or salad for those that want to eat healthier. Chicken is very average. I'm sure there's a better option at Mariano's. Their chicken taste very dry and was not worth the price. It was extremely small. Not only this, their customer service was horrible. I like hot sauce on my chicken. I like it a lot! I asked if they had hot sauce and they pointed to my salsa. I like salsa too but I just wanted some good old hot sauce. When I said, no...actually hot sauce, the guy goes in the back and brings me a whole jalapeño. Hmmm, jalapeño = hot sauce? With my mom who had been bringing me here since I was 5, and cousin, who was visiting for the first time. 8:50: We sat down to eat and half way through the bus boy comes up and snatches the salt/pepper shakers and napkin holders off the table right over my moms plate of food! (Horrified!) We said nothing and continued to eat, so then he picks up the chairs and puts them on the table right next to us and before he sweeps starts to mop with this stenchy old bleached infused ancient mop! My mom can barely breathe and my cousin stops eating. We then move to the high chairs by the window and he follows with his broom and sweeps the sediment under our chairs and feet! Fast, friendly, and cheap for what you get. The chicken is good but not outstanding, meaning if I'm in the area and want chicken this will be the place to go. It's true, the coleslaw does taste like KFC and I'm a fan of that, and the mashed potatoes are much better than KFC, the sides are what made this go from a three to four star review. The other thing that's a nice touch is that their soda machine has club soda, after all that should be easy enough to do. But place don't, I like to mix 75% club soda with 25% fruit punch or lemonade, it's a nice diversion from syrupy soda.
