Not as good as the last time I went there. I went to this place a few years ago and I loved it. While they were very good hosts and took care of us very well, it seemed like the food isn't all freshly cooked. While the gyro and the tzatziki sauce and veggies were all very fresh, I wasn't so sure about the pita. It seemed a bit too hard. I was so hungry I ate all the meat and the salad and I enjoyed it. But I love a fresh pita and they missed the mark on that. The place doesn't look like much from the outside but when you go in, it's all very clean. I had an exceptional meal today from Chicken Kebab. I ordered the Greek salad and a gyro platter. The salad was fresh and the taste was spot on. The kicker was the Gyro platter, the meat was incredible as was the rice under it. The flavor was the most satisfying and punching flavor I have ever experienced in a Mediterranean dish. I didn't even need the sauce it was so flavorful. Service is excellent. Glen Rock is lucky. read more

Whenever I'm home, I try to get Chicken Kebab at least twice. This family-run restaurant is my go-to spot for Turkish food in the area! Every meal here has been absolutely delicious, and I often laugh when I see how much my family has ordered as I carry a giant box of food back to my car. Our personal favorites are the Moussaka and Iskender Kebab. Both dishes are so flavorful, and one thing in particular that I like about the Iskender Kebab is how the pita underneath remains chewy and not soggy. We often get the Chicken Kebab, Doner Kebab, and/or Lamb Chops too, and you can tell that the meats are fresh off-the-grill as they remain very juicy even after some time in the car ride home. Their Greek Salad and Chicken Lemon Soup make for some great sides, and even down to their rice, the restaurant puts so much care into everything they make. Recently, their special dessert has been a Turkish apple pie/cookie (I should have asked the name but I think it's Elmali Kurabiye?) and wow--it could be the best apple pastry I've ever had! Seriously, if they have it in-stock you should try it. The pastry is so flaky and the apple filling is smooth and delicately sweet. Their baklava is a hit as well. Totally done with this place, it's fallen off a cliff since the pandemic. I always felt like the owners where shifty, now they have no posted prices. Lol even the menu they have on the counter has the prices redacted. I paid 29 dollars for a chicken gyro platter and a bowl of soup. Which would be fine if the food was good. The chicken gyro isn't even real meat. It's some frozen crap that was barely cooked. The salad had all kinds of brown lettuce in it and they gave me some stale brown bread instead of a pita ? My first time and it will not be my last. Tasty food and very generous portions. I ordered food to go and was extremely pleased by how well it was packed. They use high-quality containers; nothing flimsy. They handed me my food in a carton, not in a bag, and I think that kept the containers upright better on my way home. The owner and servers are very friendly and welcoming. The most delicious thing I ordered was the vegetarian entree called "vegetable dinner." The portion size will last me at least 2 and maybe three meals. Tasty grilled zucchini, red and green peppers, onions, mushrooms on a bed of bulgur in a delicious sauce. I chose the bulgur instead of the rice. I chose the free soup instead of salad. The spinach/vegetable soup was tasty. Next time I will try the lentil soup instead. I ordered a variation of the "House on Cold Platter." I enjoyed the humus but won't order it again because it was quite garlicky. I enjoyed the babaganoush eggplant salad and the stuffed grape leaves. My favorite of the three was the eggplant salad. I like their pita bread as well. The dessert I ordered was coconut cake. It was a huge thick portion; I've already had a slice twice and can probably get a few more portions out of this one order. This dessert is tasty but not OMG I must have it again tasty. The week I came here, I managed to order chicken and hummus at 4 different restaurants in 6 days. It wasn't intentional and I didn't realize that I basically ate the same thing at 4 different places until later. Anyways out of those places, this is probably the one I am least likely to return to. It wasn't bad but it also didn't impress me enough to return. The normal menu seems quite over priced (similar prices to what I've seen at much nicer places in NYC) but the lunch menu is more reasonable. I ordered one of the lunch specials and it came with chicken kebab, hummus, baba ganoush, and a small falafel. It also came with soup or salad (I got the vegetable soup) and some pita. As mentioned, the food was decent but that's all. I did like the variety of the special. The hummus and baba ganoush weren't great. The falafel was probably the best thing but was pretty small. Service was kind of slow too so that's another reason to not return for lunch. As I said, the dinner prices seem kind of ridiculous so wouldn't really suggest that either. read more

Review of Food but mostly CUSTOMER SERVICE after bad experience with food: Tonight was perhaps the worst experience I have had with Chicken Kabob and I am SO disappointed as I have always been a loyal customer for the past few years. My family ordered three lamb dishes. The lamb tasted tangy - some of the pieces tasted differently from the others which was also confusing as a whole. It seemed like perhaps the lamb was left out a little too long or perhaps on the verge of going bad. I called Chicken Kabob with the sole purpose of just letting them know that the lamb we had in three different dishes did not seem right. I felt as a loyal customer (and someone who has worked in the food industry) this is something they would want to know. I DID NOT ask for a refund or anything of the like. A woman answered the phone and immediately told me that the lamb was not bad and that she would hand me over to the chef (the owner). I asked how he was doing, explained that my family and I love his food and have always raved about his restaurant. That's how the conversation started. I then explained the pick up order we just received had the lamb that tasted off ; and proceeded to explain the situation. He immediately told me that the lamb is not bad and that he cleaned it yesterday. He yelled that he sells the best lamb in the world through the phone. I immediately said "yes, I agree with you- you do sell the best lamb which is why I have continued to come to your establishment and which is why I am so surprised. I simply wanted to let you know". He then continued to tell me that he does not make profit off of the lamb because it's so expensive and that I just shouldn't order it again. I could continue to give a play by play if this conversation but it was more of the same. Apparently I have no idea what I am talking about because "the lamb was good" even though I am the one who ate the lamb and it was not good. Being yelled at and told that I am wrong in a situation that is not debatable is disgusting. There was no apology for the experience or anything just "you're wrong", "then don't order the lamb", and I should "be aware that they don't make profit off the lamb". Well they won't have to worry about me ordering the lamb because I will NEVER order from them again. And I would highly recommend not going there unless you enjoy being berated. read more

I adore mediterranean food, so I'm completely biased. But I've also had a fair assortment of food from different restaurants and this place is very good choice for fast casual. Hearty portions and great flavor. Our office orders from this restaurant on a rotating basis and they never fail to get it right. We usually order a tray of rice, donner meat, chicken, and salad along with pitas and sauce. The tzatzki sauce is a standout: it's tart, fresh, and multi-dimensional. This is how it's meant to be, as a crisp yet smooth compliment to the rest of the meal. There is also a richness to their entrees. The rice is better than just "rice" it's rice with some pizzaz to it. The chicken isn't just "chicken", it's chicken with soul. I have been to this place many many times in the last two years, and it continues to be one of my absolute favorite spots for Turkish food. It's a family owned joint and the food is superb. My favorites are the meat pie, the chicken kebab dinner, the shepherd's salad, and the lentil soup. The meat pie is super flaky, wrapped in filo pastry with ground meat on the inside that is perfectly seasoned. It comes piping hot and tastes the best with some cooling tzatziki. Of course, whenever I go with friends, we make sure to order a large shepherd's salad to share. It's refreshing, tangy, and perfect during the summer. They add a generous amount of feta on top and it's far and away one of my favorite salads. Then, of course, the chicken kebab dinner. Holy crap people, this chicken and rice combination is literally the stuff of dreams. First, the dinner comes with a soup or salad, and I highly recommend you get the Turkish lentil soup. A tomato and lentil based soup, it's slightly sweet and smooth. The soup itself is milder compared to the alternative Greek lemon soup. That one is too tart for my taste. Anyways, I'd never had this Turkish soup before Chicken Kebab, and now I sometimes dream of it on a cold winter's night. The main dish is chunks of chicken and onion and mushroom from the skewer laid on top of the fluffiest rice pilaf you will ever eat. The onions are sweet and translucent but still have a bite, the mushrooms have wilted and absorbed the juices from cooking, and the chicken is the most succulent thing you'll eat. Pair that with the rice, which is soft and puffy, and you're in heaven. The only downside is the service is a little slow, but I can forgive the wait time because I haven't found a place that matches this place in flavor. This is a gem in Glen Rock and definitely a place I go out of my way to order from even now that I've moved to Jersey City. read more

Sometimes you go somewhere new that just opened and really root for them to make it. It was like this when I first started going here almost as soon as they opened. The owner and his wife are more than friendly, happily greeting guests and making sure that they're happy. Their young daughters are often there lending a hand and adding to the friendly ambience of the place. The food is consistantly good with one exception. Their vegetable soup is epic to the point of being one of the best I have ever had. I have read some reviews where the people claim that it's expensive which is only true comparing it to fast food restaurants. My usual tab there for two is under $30, putting it firmly in the 1 $ range, certainly not $$ and for the price and service, it's a bargain. read more

Ehhh the bottom line is this place is just too expensive. I had the chicken kabob platter and he had the lamb kabob platter, which came w a soup for him and a salad for me, with hummus and 2 drinks. The bill was 40.25 The portions were terribly small, hubby had one kabob worth of lamb=4 cubes and i had 2 kabobs which was fine, but both plates had barely any rice. I thought this place was completely delicious. The restaurant is dry, but with the liquor store down the minimall complex, it's an easy fix. A large group of us had a couple of hummus plates to share, donor and chicken kebab. I think we ate our weight in pita bread. We also loved the lassi and baklava. I happen to love Turkish food, and thought everything quite tasty. The atmosphere is friendly with the head chef/owner chatting us up; he was throughly entertained by my father's attempt to order in and remember the little bit of Turkish he learned when we were living in Germany. There was a TV with a soccer game on, but it switched to the evening news while we were there. My wife and I were drawn in by the great reviews, but we were skeptical. She's Turkish, so her expectations were high. I've been to Turkey many times, so I enjoy some key Turkish dishes. On first sight, it's a little hole in the wall. Sandwiched between a DD and some other stores in a strip mall, it's best looking on the inside. Seating can be limited, but we found a seat at 7pm on a Saturday. We started our dinner with the stuffed grape leaves and shepherd's salad. The grape leaves got the thumbs down (canned) from my wife. The salad was fresh and nice. For dinner we had Iskander kabob and mixed kabobs. I'm a HUGE lover of Iskander kabob and I've had it at many places while in Turkey. This one was like no other...in a bad way. There were sauteed onions on top. I've never seen that and I hope I don't see it again because it was terrible. The mixed kabob (lamb/hamburger) tasted like it was frozen. All around it was a little disappointing for a Turk and a Turk tourist. DELICIOUS! I have cravings for this place and their doner kebab (gyro) is the best I have EVER had. Their lamb kebab in a pita is delicious too. The lamb is so tender and juicy, MmM MmM good! My boyfriend had a lunch special which consisted of some hummus, falafel, pita, another eggplant type dip that I cant remember the name of , and a chicken kebab. Everything was fantastic, the chicken was perfect, and it was the best falafel I've had, but I'm no falafel expert (I've only had falafel in dining halls and from food trucks). The pita's are topped with a super fresh salad mix and they give you a little cup of their yogurt sauce to drizzle or drown your pita in. Their dolmade, stuffed grape leaves, are filled with a rice/orzo mix in great olive oil. The owner of the place is always there and is extremely warm and inviting. The atmosphere is very casual. I have been searching for a good Mediterranean/Turkish place in the area and went here because of the 4 star yelp rating and mostly good reviews. Huge disappointment. No air conditioning, with no windows open and no fans on, so the place was stuffy and uncomfortable. We walked in and weren't greeted by anyone, nor did anyone come over to our table within the first 10 minutes. We took our order and the food was ok, nothing special. I got the falafel, hummus, and chicken kabob dinner platter to share with my boyfriend. Overall, the decor/atmosphere, service, and quality of food was just not worth the price.
