The rice was delicious. The veggies were nicely seared. The tzatziki was acceptable. The gyro had a weird spongy texture and did not have a good flavor. The chicken shish had a decent color, but was flavorless. Both entrees were not very large. Bit I think they build it so people will buy the lunch special and have an app as well. This entrees may have been the blandest Mediterranean food I've ever had. I don't like the cold. But the restaurant was like a furnace during the entirety of our lunch. I definitely will not return. We were looking for a new takeout spot when we came across Smyrna Mediterranean Cafe & Grill, and we were shocked that we had not spotted its positive reviews sooner. I called to place the order and was greeted by a gracious man that was also very friendly when I went to collect the food. The restaurant was small and cozy, with a really welcoming vibe. I picked up the large bag of takeout and brought it back to the car, struggling to delay devouring the heavenly smelling food within it. We started the experience with some spreads. The Hummus was super creamy and well-spiced, as it was topped with crispy chickpeas, parsley, and za'atar. The Muhammara was similarly delicious with its brightness in color and flavor thanks to its base of roasted red peppers, which were blended with walnuts and Mediterranean spices, and then topped with feta cheese and parsley. It was zesty and sweet all at once. The dips came with a bag of fresh pita that tasted more homemade than those restaurants that tend to give bread that is dry, stale, and seemingly straight from the supermarket. In an effort to try as many things as possible, we also shared the Falafel Pita Sandwich, which was a fluffy wrap smeared with hummus, and stuffed with a very generous amount of falafel, as well as lettuce, tomato, and red onion. While that hummus seemed more bland than the side portion we had tried (did not seem to have the za'atar), the falafel itself was incredible! The sandwich was served with seasoned fries that were a bit greasy, but also delicious. For my individual meal, I selected the Chicken Shish, which I found very flavorful. The large poultry chunks had been very well-marinated, but, due to their inconsistent sizing, some pieces wound up dry - not at all chewy, but dry. I would still order it again, though. Another member of our party had the Lamb Shish, however, and found that meat to be fatty and tough; I think they will opt for the chicken version next time. All of our platters came with an amazing rice that was more like a larger couscous. It was so flavorful that it had to have been cooked in some sort of broth. The meals also included "grilled vegetables", though there was really only 1 stalk of asparagus, 1 slice of eggplant, 1 slice of zucchini, and 1 baby bell pepper. The vegetables had been drizzled with balsamic vinegar, which was a nice touch, but I had wished there were more veggies included. Overall, we enjoyed the service, portion size, and flavor profiles we experienced from Smyrna. We would just prefer some more consistent meat textures and added vegetables next time. read more

Quick post - we had been meaning to try Smyrna again since they reopened after remodeling and did earlier this week and we loved it! I highly recommend it for a delicious, casual (yet nice) night out. My husband and I shared the hummus which was delicious and then I had the grilled chicken and vegetables with rice (I have a picture but after I had taken a bit so didnt post it lol) and my husband had the salmon ~ we both loved our dinners (and enjoyed the leftovers for lunch the next day). The owners did a really nice job with the remodel - I hope my pictures do it a bit of justice... we went on Tuesday so it wasn't super busy but there were people picking up take out and few other people dining in too. read more

We went for the first time and we were thrilled. From the moment we entered we felt like at home. Welcoming staff, beautifull design and decorations and very nice music at the background. The menu offer everything mediterranean you can think of. We chose only appetizers as we could not even finish those but next time we will go for the main course. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked very delicious. Mediterranean fries were delicious, my son's favorite was grilled octopus and I really enjoyed beet and goat cheese. Baklava was so tasty, warm and topped with pistachios and it was perfect ending to a lovely evening "date"with my son.. Everything there tastes so fresh and delicious, you must try yourselves. They serve espresso, Turkish coffee and tea and non alcoholic drinks. It is BYOB so you can come with your own drinks. We will be back soon. It is worth it. read more

Very good Mediterranean food We met our friends here whom we hadn't seen in a bunch of years. This was the 1/2 way point. We were delighted with the food, though the prices were a bit high. I ordered the greek salad with falafel (honestly I did not need the falafel, the salad was very large!)- it was a mix of organic greensand fresh lettuce, tomatoes, chopped fresh cucumbers and fresh green peppers, sliced red onions, kalamata olives and feta cheese. I had the dressing on the side (I had to bring part of it home!). One friend ordered the gyro platter - grilled Greek gyro served with rice, grilled vegetables and tzatziki. Someone else ordered the gyro sandwich which comes with lettuce, sliced tomato and sliced red onion It also came with fries and tzatziki.We had hummus and tzatziki on the side as well. And there was a felafel platter as well. And of course, pita! So we had a lot of food! It was very good and we were able to relax. It was so great to see my bestie from elementary school that I was happy we were all together! This place is easily in my top 3 favorite restaurants of all time. The owner and her husband are such sweet people and make it feel like you're at home. The decor and vibe of the restaurant is perfect and cozy. I haven't even got to the food yet!! My wife and I get the cold platter every time without hesitation. Our favorites are the Tzatziki, Beet/Goat Cheese, and the Muhamarra. The Tzatziki is up there with one of the best you will ever have. (Might be #1). We get the cold platter, which is 4 option, and we get 2 bowls of Tzatziki so we have some to take home. The Chicken Kebab is so tender and juicy with delicious flavor. The rice is like a drug, I don't know what it is but it's so light and fluffy. To finish up, the Baklava dessert is a MUST. Another 10/10 dish. Overall, if you want Mediterranean food, you have to go here. From the owners being such sweet people, to the ambiance, to the amazing food. I wish we found this place sooner. The website menu shows wraps and sandwiches, but they are not served as part of the menu, if you are eating in. No where on the site does it indicate that sandwiches are for takeout or delivery only. I ordered the chicken gyro pita sandwich but it is mislabeled on the menu because it was actually a lettuce sandwich. The lettuce was main feature of the sandwich and was also dressed with some Italian vinaigrette that didn't fit to me. But once I found the chicken, I wouldn't call it tender but more like mushy, kind of like chicken that you pulled out of a day-long soup. So it was soft but also dry at the same time, with an off-putting flavor. The red lentil soup was overpowered by oregano and was the texture of canned pumpkin or baby food. Very difficult to get down. I won't say to not try this place but at least don't get what I ordered. read more

I have been a longtime customer at Smyrna. I used to dine-in here a lot before the pandemic when it was the original owner but because of the pandemic I didn't go for a while. I decided last week to go back and order takeout and when I went to pickup the food I learned there was new ownership. I was sad at first because I loved the other owner, he was so friendly but then after talking to the new owner and then eating my meal I was quite happy. The owner is super friendly and really passionate about her cooking. She seemed genuinely excited for me to try what she made which is not common in most restaurants. The food was fantastic. I ordered the chicken gyro platter which had tons of flavor and even the rice was very tasty. I'm very picky when it comes to Turkish food so I was really happy. Everything seemed very healthy and clean too. Actually I enjoyed so much that I went back tonight to get the same platter and a cold appetizer sampler. When I went inside to order, the owner remembered me and that I ordered chicken gyro last time when I told her I wanted the same thing as before. The hummus has perfect flavor and consistency and I LOVED the beets and goat cheese with labne underneath. I can really feel the passion and love she puts into the food and I know this is what she cooks for herself and her family. I will be back to try everything else on the menu!
