I visited the Chicken Kitchen in Oakland Park today, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing. The location looked neglected and not very clean. Staff members weren't wearing gloves, and the person preparing the food had no hairnet and visibly poor hygiene--dirty nails while handling and cutting the chicken. When I asked for double chicken, there was no proper measuring, so I couldn't even tell if I actually received what I paid for. I usually order delivery, so seeing the food prepared in person was eye-opening, and not in a good way. The standards for cleanliness and food handling need serious improvement. read more

I got the bazooka chop chop bowl I got the yellow rice It also comes with chicken/beans/lettuce/tomato(I said no tomato)/sour cream/cheese... I think that is it OH and guacamole. He stopped what he was doing and asked me if I was ready to order. He started on it right away while the other guy stopped cleaning and went to the register to ring me up and get my sauces, bag, napkins, & utensils ready. Awesome CS and team work!! I went over to the register and paid. Was in and out in less than 5 minutes. I've been to this location when they're busy and it always seems they work efficiently as a well organized team. I always get my chicken chop finely chopped so I get a morsel in every bite. I usually also ask for some crispy skin which isn't always available, but he found a piece on a breast still cooking and included it for me. Could have been crispier, but not complaining since at first there didn't appear to be any at all. One of my guilty pleasures is a chicken kitchen. I think I'm just kind of addicted to their yellow rice. Recently I stumbled upon this location, so naturally, I had to give it a shot. The guys working behind the counter were very friendly, not only with me, but with every customer who came through the door. It seemed like the manager knew everyone personally who came in which is a nice thing to see. So if you're not aware, Chicken Kitchen takes grilled chicken, dices it up and puts it into either bowls, salads, wraps, and I believe you can order just the chicken breast/quarter. As a creature of habit I get my chop-chop, which is their versus of a bowl (think Chipotle). Two sizes: regular and large. If you know me, you know I'm always getting the large. It comes with chicken, a ton of yellow rice, lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream and a slice of pita. Being a glutton, I always ask for an extra pita. I've been here a couple of times now and I've noticed that the chicken can be a little tough or that maybe it's sat for too long. The dining room tends to be a little messy; I'm always wiping my own table down before I eat my meal. Not the perfect experience, but not a bad one either. I reviewed this place couple months ago because I was disappointed in the chicken being pre-cut and the portions were small. However, since this review I have gone back in, several times, and I have been more than satisfied with the portions and the chicken is fresh off the grill. Let me also add, the service in this place is ALWAYS so nice and welcoming. Every single visit I get a very nice greeting, and this goes a long way for me. This is back to being my lunch go-to. If you like rice and shredded iceberg lettuce, you'll love this place. Basically, that's what you get with a chicken breast chopped up and tossed in. I ordered the Mexican, which added sour cream and guacamole (ole!) to it, along with shredded cheese and tomato. Mostly, it was a plate of a huge pile of rice and a huge portion of shredded lettuce and you have to dig out the rest of the food. The flavor was bland, which is about the best thing I can say about the place. It wasn't awful just not good and for the price, it wasn't worth it. I used to come here rather frequently for lunch a few years ago. Now that I'm working in the area again, I decided to grab a bite to eat here. The order went fine, although I'm not a fan of how they limit how much sauce you can have and charge you extra if you want more. Other Chicken Kitchens I've been to have self-serve dispensers... not this one. So I got my food and I headed back to the office to dig in. I took a bite, and it was rubbery. Like, I had to chew far too long on one tiny piece of chicken. Hoping it was an errant piece, I took a few more bites, except the whole thing had the texture of rubber. I just couldn't make myself eat this. Sadly, my nearly $9 meal went completely to waste, and I had to venture back out of the office to find a replacement meal. Thankfully, my dogs aren't nearly as picky about the texture of their food as I am, because they were rather grateful for the chicken when I brought it home. So I'm glad SOMEONE could eat this food, but I certainly couldn't. Knowing how good (well, relatively speaking) their food used to be, it's a shame to see the quality free-fall like this. I actually like this place as long as they use fresh rice and watch what they chop as sometimes its inedible of the breast. I also do not like that they use the same area and cut breasts on it without cleaning it from the last time. Their yellow sauce is fantastic. And they have special deserts. The " no rice wrapito " is my go-to choice here ...a flour tortilla stuffed with lettuce , tomato, and a good sized portion of grilled chicken breast . It's always fresh and filling . I get the curry mustard sauce for added flavor ( always delicious ) . I'm a creature of habit , so I haven't tried their other sauces, even though there is a sauce for every taste . Delicious! My wife is from Miami and told me about this place. I was hesitant at first but finally went and loved it! The chicken is tasty and well seasoned. The sauces (curry is the best but cilantro is also very good) really elevate it. The owner is very nice and friendly. He's often working the register and grill. I almost forgot about Chicken Kitchens and was glad to find another. Well after this visit, I won't return. The chicken was bland. The rice was undercooked and the beans were watery with no flavor. I was starving and on a short break so I gulped most of it down but couldn't finish the rest. Place was just dull and all the other meals are over priced. I am huge fan of CK but, I need to lower my expectations. I ordered the oriental chop chop and it tasted nothing like it usually does. The sauce was watery and super salty. I was devastated because you know when you have a craving you want it to be perfect... sadly it wasn't. Even the famous curry sauce was watery making my meal even worse. I ate a third and had to toss it. For the price per chop I would've expected more. Especially since at the end of the day it is rice, tomatoes and chicken. Simple meal.
