The food was ready in less than 5 minutes. I was given 2 legs and 2 thighs (thank you) and the meat was hot and flavorful. It was good tasting roasted chicken. The dirty rice was a little moist but still flavorful with a nice pepper slant to it. The yeast roll was pillow soft and delicious. This meal was a hit and I'm glad I stopped in. The man behind the counter was friendly and helpful. Wanting to make sure the chicken he had ready was acceptable he gave me a sample and I enjoyed it. Also while the dining area was clean the self serve drink machine wasn't working. However he offered to give refills from behind the counter if needed. I rated this visit a 3.5 but will round up for Yelp purposes. I hope that I found a Golden Chick hit at this location.

We ordered on the app and picked up in the drive thru. The attendant was friendly and told us to pull up to the stop sign to wait for fresh food. The Steak Biscuit and Bo-Tato Rounds came out hot. I liked the biscuit, but the steak was too thin and got lost. My wife said, "It kind of tastes like Grandy's, but Grandy's was better," it has to have been 40 years since she's eaten there. Our cashier had started chatting with a coworker for a moment (which was totally fine since we were still deciding). A leas abruptly interrupted and told her to help us right away. I get the intention, but it probably would've been better handled by pulling her aside instead of calling her out in front of everyone especially since she didn't realize we weren't ready yet. Even with that awkward moment, the cashier stayed professional and calm, which I really respected. Checkout itself was quick and efficient, and our food came out within minutes, fresh and exactly what you'd expect. But the real star of the show was the sweetest hostess. While we were sitting down, she came by with the biggest smile and asked if I wanted a water refill. Then she brought my little one a stuffed animal, which immediately had her grinning ear to ear. Every time she walked by after that, she gave us the warmest smile like grandma energy that just makes a place feel welcoming. To top it off, we went to grab our free rewards ice cream and my little one really wanted strawberry. They only had vanilla, but a manager went above and beyond and he scooped vanilla into a cup and added strawberry preserves on top to make it happen. Little moments like that go a long way. They didn't shoo me away because I only ordered a drink. I sat on a table by the trash can to catch up with my friends on social media. Suddenly, an employee walked up to ask why I wasn't eating anything. Haha. I told her that I couldn't fit one more solid food in my stomach. Then, we had a short conversation. So nice. I may have sat there for an hour or so. My feet regained energy. I thought to get a piece of brownie for the road. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at this 290 Cypress restaurant. They let you order your meal mixing fried and roasted pieces so I did. I also have tried the campero beans and cole slaw as side dishes. Prices are very reasonable. A 3 piece chicken meal with one side dish with self serve drink and tax runs about $13. Two piece meals are less of course. The chicken here tastes very good. As long as it is hot, the roasted version is seasoned and very juicy. The fried version had a nice seasoned crust and was also juicy inside. I think I liked the fried a little better but would be ok with either. Their sides are even better. My order of campero beans were hot and very flavorful. The cole slaw was cool and creamy with a rich taste. Those two were quality side dishes. This is the only outpost of Pollo Campero that I have visited. It remains to be seen if the other locations are consistent with this one. I have found that Golden Chick disappoints more than it succeeds. As of now, Pollo Campero is my fave of this type of restaurant.
