I was expecting so much more from the rave reviews. I got the 1/4 chicken with plantains and mashed potato FLAKES with cheese. 1. RECONTITUTED mashed potatoes from A BOX!?! Totally gross! How do I know? I tasted it. Then while I stirred it around there were lots of dry flakes that didn't get mixed in properly. Confirmed with the server that they do not use real potatoes! HUGE NO-NO for me!! 2. They did not inform me that plantain sides are extra $. That's poor form. The plantains were good, however. 3. The taste of the chicken was not great. In fact, I've had better from Wegmans, and for about the same price, I could have a whole chicken that tastes so much better!! That's what I'll be doing next time I want rotisserie chicken in Leesburg. 4. They let me choose another side so I went with the red potatoes. Pretty flavorless despite the onions, peppers and cilantro. I usually love anything with cilantro BC it's my favorite food. Wow. Bland. 5. Ordered a side of tortillas. Very thick and mealy. Wth. Avoid this place like the plague. Funny, but last year when I was working in the area I was going to eat here (without looking at reviews), but when I walked in the smell of disinfectant was so strong that I turned right around and left. Pretty decent, casual spot for Peruvian food. Everything we had was pretty good, and the portions are good, but it just wasn't too exciting. Which is unfortunate because my experiences with Peruvian food elsewhere (regardless of price or location) have almost always been incredible. The lomo saltado here was a little underwhelming as were some of the sides. Also, they don't have any good veggie options which was a little sad, though i was pretty happy with the huge side of plantains I got. Service was nice and the place was clean and pretty quiet when we went. I'd definitely go here again, but will keep searching for other options. read more

Every Sunday when I get off at the work I love to eat combo leg, white rice, and a small portion of small chunks of tender beef in the soup ..later part they price increase and the beef of the soup was so rubbery and hard to chew .. from that point twice i eat and beef chunks are rubbery not like before... I'm not sure if other people caught them on a bad day, but my experience was really good. I got a quarter chicken with 2 sides and a small drink for less than $10. The chicken was juicy and I got 2 of each sauce which was plenty for my quarter chicken. I had the fried yuca and plantains which were both done well. Service was quick taking my order, got a little slow because I was behind a man with a large order. Once I sat down to eat I wish I got more chicken because it was delicious! I can't tell you how excited I was to see this restaurant open in Leesburg! I'm a huge Pollo a la Brasa fan and have tried nearly every place in NOVA and Chicken Rico is my clear favorite. I drive to the one in Herndon on a regular basis and so was very happy that they decided to open a shop closer to me in Leesburg. The key to their chicken is in the spice rub they put on the bird. It is the perfect spice blend and they rub a very generous amount on the chicken. No bland flavorless chicken from this place! The restaurant itself is a nice step up in terms of decor from the Herndon store. The standard sides are available with my favorites being the spinach, black beans, and mac and cheese. They rotate the sides so you won't see the same ones every time but I am always able to find good ones to pair with the chicken. I also like the fountain soda option here vs just the bottles and cans at the other location. One change that would be a home run for me is if they got away from the all too common little plastic cups of green and yellow sauce and either had the option of getting a larger portion or using squeeze bottles that other stores offer, but that's a minor quibble in an otherwise top notch dining experience. read more

3.5 since my previous visits. We're a busy, BUSY family of four and most times we place phone orders for a quick pickup on the way home. The last two times we did this they messed up our order and instead of holding cheese (food restriction) on a burrito they placed tons of it on it. Got the sides mixed up and only gave us TWO yellow sauces for four full entrees. Yes, my bad for not checking but really do I need to check over something like this? And on top of that both sauces were not capped correctly and exploded in our bag. Extremely disappointed in the to go service. I would maybe understand if they were crazy busy and overlook it but they were DEAD both times. The women behind the registers were not attentive or too helpful. Was in the area doing some training for work. Looked it up on yelp and thought wow the reviews are pretty good and also I can't find lomo saltado where I live. I go 25 min before they close and they tell me that the grill is closed and they could only offer me some chicken that looked like it had been there ALL DAY. I think it's bad business to shut down like that whether your busy or not. Change your store hours to accommodate for the traffic you get. Delicious! If you're not familiar with Peruvian food, basic highlights are rotisserie chicken and potatoes. Chicken Rico's charcoal chicken is amazingly well seasoned and perfectly cooked. Terrible service. First off, I asked the cashier what was in their burritos and she did not know. What restaurant does not know what's in their food that THEY serve? A pretty solid meal. My husband had the 1/2 rotisserie chicken platter with three sides: rice, black beans, and plantains -- I love the burned bits of the plantains :) I ordered the carne asada and a salad. The beef was tender and had good flavor but was served "wet". I prefer a more charred/dry grilled asada. The dressing was very bland. The chicken; however, was fabulous and well worth a return visit. Only giving one star because I have to, would like to give zero. Had an event catered for July 3rd. When I went to pick up my order they informed me it must be in cash, I of course did not have 140 in cash on me. After going to the ATM and coming back to pay I was over 30 minutes late getting home and was late for my guests. Once getting home I realized we were not given the correct food. I called the restaurant and was giving the mangers number. He has not returned my calls and voicemails. Very poor service. Would never recommend this place! read more

This place popped up seemingly out of nowhere one day. My friends and I were on our way to somewhere else when I noticed Chicken Rico & changed my gameplan. I went in knowing nothing and it blew us away. A good Peruvian place can satisfy you like few other meals can. I got the platter, with sides of delicious black beans, some fried yuca, and the fried rice, which was one of the best fried rices I think Ive ever had. Theres a spice they use in the rice I cant quite figure out, but it adds a distinction that makes it taste like nothing else Ive ever had. And oh, lord, the bird is cooked to perfection. It melts in your mouth and theres always leftovers. Luckily all this heats up well in the microwave. I went back a second time with my family and they seemed to be having some trouble with the cash register. The foods flavor reflected this trouble and I told my family we would come back later, give it another shot. That first meal was so great I hoped it wasnt just an early-business fluke. Thankfully, it wasnt. The third time was as fantastic as the first. Craving some more of that fried rice as I write this review. At later times I tried the coleslaw, the mac & cheese, & their fries.
