The breakfast is good and cheap! Just don't get the bacon. It's like they leave it sitting in the grease all morning.

Absolutely THE best fried chicken in EBR Parish. The sides are great specially the greens and Shack balls.

The chicken is awesome. I get the wings, my family loves the tenders. Red beans are good too, as are the french fries. What I really want to know is, "What the hell are they doing back in the kitchen?" The workers seem nice enough, but something is seriously wrong with their system. If you happen to go at the wrong time (which is almost always) the line snakes out of the door and you could wait 25 minutes or more to get your chicken. The customers are making the best of it, but I've never seen so many people with their heads hanging down demoralized, patiently waiting to "get their chicken". This is an old school place so I'm pretty sure they'll never do it different, but sometimes I have fantasies of buying the place, improving the systems, and doubling sales as the word spread that you can actually go more often because you wouldn't be dreading what you're about to have to go through to "get your chicken". The highlight of the wait for me is buying peanuts from one of the sons of the family that is not involved in the business, but looks like makes a nice living with his sideline of selling goodies and snacks while he chats up the people in line. read more

Fabulous! Super friendly people, really good food and great prices. The fried fish was probably the best I've ever had, the chicken that my wife and girls had was delicious (lovely crispy skin) and the chips (fries) reminded me of fish'n'chip shop chips from back home. This might be one of the most over-hyped places in the city. I definitely won't be back. Three of us went to eat at Chicken Shack a few Fridays ago and service was slow since most of the workers were outside on the front porch of the restaurant smoking and talking amongst themselves. After getting my food, I kind of wish they would've stayed outside... One of us got the fried chicken and red beans and rice, one got the red beans and rice and a pork chop, and I got a fried chicken sandwich with mac and cheese and dirty rice. Twenty minutes later, we were called up to get our food. I figured they had to cook some of that stuff fresh, but no... they were just really slow. The pork chop was thin and overcooked. The fried chicken sandwich turned out to be ONE SINGLE CHICKEN TENDER on a bun. The macaroni and cheese was some of the worst I've ever eaten. The dirty rice was actually very, very good... but the problem is that the sides come in super small gravy containers. Seriously... they charge more for a side than Popeyes does and you get about half the amount that you would at Popeyes. The chicken was ok, but after all that, I won't be returning. It's a shame that they care so little about what they serve. All you could hear in the kitchen was the workers talking to each other. People were waking in and out just filling up random cups they brought in at the soda fountain. read more

My daughter is addicted to fried chicken so I knew we had to stop by before touring LSU. Absolutely wonderful food. Crispy and tender chicken. No frills, just fantastic food. The greens were also tasty. When I saw someone comment about the chicken being greasy in a previous review, did you not realize it's FRIED chicken? There was some residual oil on the platter but I haven't ever had fried foods and this not happen. We have eaten fried chicken all over The South and this chicken is one of the best. You cannot beat the price either. It was nice knowing you can still come to places like this and they haven't gone all commercial and jacked up prices. Such a good deal for all you get with so much quality. I live in Austin and you cannot get chicken like this here unless you know someone who is doing some down home cooking. Thank goodness I do. It was a pleasure being here and eating here. We will be back, especially if my kid goes to LSU. read more

When I'm in BR I'll do whatever I can to get to the Shack. Last night I was the only cracker out of 30 customers in line. I find it odd that there's a Churches Chicken next door but I guess that's there just for the overflow for those who either don't know better or don't want to wait. This is the best fried chicken I've ever had! I got a 2 piece dark meat with coleslaw and potato salad. Everything was great and homemade! The chicken was juicy and the skin was crispy. The service was great and friendly. Everybody in the place was friendly. It was just an all around great atmosphere. There was an older gentleman singing the soul songs playing over the speakers. Every song was good. Even the customers were friendly. I also got the peach cobbler. It was delicious. My wife got the same thing I did but with red beans and rice. Popeyes doesn't have anything on this place! All fresh, all handmade. I loved it so much I had to buy a tshirt. They've been doing fried chicken for 80 years, and it definitely shows in the quality! There is a Church's Chicken next door, but you can tell where all the locals go. The line was out the door, but the lady at the counter was very fast taking orders and so sweet I wanted to be her friend. Even the guy taking out the trash welcomed us and made us feel at home. A last minute decision that has changed my perspective on chicken forever. After much deliberation I finally sucked it up and took the 10 minute drive to the Chicken Shack. I ordered the 2 piece, white. Which comes with two sides, I got potato salad and Red Beans. My order took about 5 minutes to come out and it was served in a styrofoam to go container with their logo on the top. I opened the box and was pleasantly met with the smell of the fresh friend chicken. The skin was so crisp. The chicken literally FELL OFF THE BONE in the best way possible. The potato salad was a mustard base and was just how I'd imagine a great grandmother makes it. Amazing. The red beans give me a taste of home in NOLA. The music playing is a nice mixture of blues, jazz, and soul. I am so impressed with the service as well. The woman and man that I had the opportunity to meet were so generous and kind. I ended up trying Chicken Shack for takeout at a social function, and it was amazing! I don't know how they cook it, but it works well. Arguably, it might be even better than Popeye's, but I see the latter in a different genre of restaurants. It is an excellent place for soul food. Not considerate at all! The man at the counter had a very nasty attitude and wasn't considerate of the individuals. It says Tuesday 1.45 dark piece ,but online it didn't say it start at 10:30 and neither on their sign. Plus I was on my break from work ,which made it worst. The guy wasn't considerate at all. He told me well I can't do nothing about that! Ugh yes you can! Sorry the time is not advertised and it does say 1.45 for 2 piece dark so I understand your frustration and since there is false advertisement I'mma just ring you up for a small red bean which is for 1.59 so you can get the chicken somewhere close to what was advertised. Again I am sorry and I will take notice and make sure the time is up. Now that would've been the best way to handle it. SMH Because of him, I'm not going to another chicken shack again!! If you're wondering what all the hype is about, you clearly haven't had Chicken Shack chicken. There is nothing comparable anywhere nearby. Chicken is always piping hot, and there are plenty of great sides to choose from (I like shack balls and mustard greens). I've heard good things about their seafood as well, but I can't bring myself to get something other than the chicken. I would strongly advise you to get the sweet potato pie with it as well - it will not disappoint. I'm very happy I decided to try the Chicken Shack. read more
