I placed a to go order and got the hamburger steak lunch plate which was very reasonably priced at $13.99 for 2 and a half patties smothered in gravy with onions and mushrooms, mashed potatoes and gravy, side salad and garlic bread. The lady who answered the phone was very polite. I loved the Greek salad dressing and the meal. My only complaint was that it was fresh after I got home and tried to reheat the patties. Tried for lunch a few weeks ago and thought it worth bringing my wife to for an early dinner last night around 5pm. Placed order and sat. After 20 minutes and seeing at least 7 orders picked up at the counter and more delivered to tables, I asked where mine was. The cashier looked in back and said "we had to start from scratch". What? Had I not gone up, would they even notice? It was two simple burger plates with onion rings. I asked to get money back, he refunded to me with little or no remorse and we will never return. I took a gamble on Goodwood Grill for delivery awhile back and I've enjoyed it so much that I've been going back since. I've always known this place was loved by locals but after trying the food, I completely understand why. It's not fancy food by any stretch, but the kind of comfort food that Baton Rouge faithful has been supporting for years. And just how much support? This place is hoppin' at lunch time, almost daily. It's even more crowded on the weekends and it gets a bit claustrophobic in here quickly. There are a handful of tables for 4 in the main dining room, with a smaller room in the back to handle the additional crowds. The format is simple enough: order at the counter and get seated. If the latter doesn't happen by a certain time, it may not happen at all. Hence, delivery / takeout for me all the way (#1). The food doesn't look like much, like an average spruced up diner version of sandwiches, burgers, and fried food. But looks only go so far, the taste was good enough to get me wanting more. Overall, everything was very tasty and I can't complain. The portions are southern hearty and the prices are pretty good, especially during their popular lunch specials. The burger was juicy and cooked just right, the fried catfish was well seasoned, and the gumbo was outstanding. And of course, the service has always been excellent. They know how to cut the wait time down and are able to handle phone / online orders with ease. Ok Burger, but nothing to rave about I've lived in Baton Rouge for more than 20 years and this was my time dining at Goodwood Grill. I've heard a lot of good things about the food at this place so my wife, and I wanted to give it a try. We went in for lunch and decided to try the Cheeseburger dressed with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mayo and mustard. It was very busy, so we waited in line for about 20 minutes from the time we entered the restaurant to place our order and then about another 20 - 25 minutes for our food to be ready. The process is to stand in line to place your order first and if you're dining in, fix your drink at the self-serve drink station, seat yourself at a table in the small dining room, and wait for your food to be delivered to your table. The service is excellent, but extremely slow, so be prepared to wait. The restaurant was fairly clean, and the server did an excellent job at clearing and cleaning the tables as they turned over. The server did an excellent job at filling dining customers request for items like ketchup, napkins, etc. The Food The burger was just ok. Not bad, and nothing to brag about. The portion size was good, it was well dressed, but the burger patty was dry and not seasoned. It tasted like a burger patty that was pre-cooked. The bun, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles were all fresh. The fries were hot and perfectly cooked but lacked salt / seasoning. We also tried the onions ring. They were freshly made, but again they lacked salt / seasoning. Overall, although the food was not great, it was ok. We kept seeing this place packed around lunch everyday we passed by. So today The Hubby said let's go do lunch... this place was packed and all the parking was taken so you know that says something about the business. My husband was greeted upon entry and waited about 3-5 mins to place his order. The ladies were very nice and polite. The place was well decorated, welcoming and the smell off the good food was definitely inviting. There were so many nice things to choose from. The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are worth it... Let's just say y'all know how I love my freshly brewed sweet tea with lemon... They were fried golden, to perfection and well seasoned. Their garlic sauce was amazingly good with it... we were head over hills for the fried fish bd shrimp. I walked into Goodwood Grill for the first time on Friday, 12/29/2023 around 11:30 a.m. There is a large menu on the wall and fountain drinks are self-serve on the left and to-go orders are picked up to the far right. Patrons place their orders at a front counter, receive a number to be posted table-side and the food is brought to your table. There are daily specials Monday through Saturday. Today's special was fried catfish fish, French fries and sweet peas for $11.99. The restaurant has two rooms with about 30 seats. I ordered the daily special, which came with 4 catfish fillets covered with a crispy flaked batter, a scoop of creamy mustard potato salad, sweet peas and a slice of toasted garlic toast. I could not have been more pleased with my catfish special. The catfish was hot, fried to perfection and delicious, the potato salad was flavorful, sweet peas were tasty, seasoned with onions and a hint of black pepper. I also had the light Mediterranean tea, as my drink. I love Lebanese iced tea and this version seemed very similar, lightly sweet and flavorful with rose water. My buddy who suggested the restaurant joined me and ordered the cheese burger combo and fries which came with a drink. The hamburger appeared large and nicely dressed with a thick patty on a sesame seeded bun. The restaurant had a steady flow of patrons dining in and to go orders. People of all walks of life were represented: senior citizens, uniformed Baton Rouge police officers, construction workers, retirees, students, etc. Overall, Goodwood Grill exceeded my expectation for quality of food, fair pricing and friendly service. The neighborhood atmosphere and friendly locals committed to supporting this gem of a restaurant for Baton Rouge makes me look forward to a return visit to try other menu items. Nice place we stumbled upon that we found on Yelp. The building is older but I like the feel of the place. My son ordered a BLT. It was huge with REAL bacon. He could not even finish it. After passing by this hidden gem many times and hearing all the good things, I finally stopped in one Friday recently. I ordered a grilled shrimp salad and onion rings (because, balance) and went in to pickup. When you walk in, the delicious smells hit you immediately. It's a no frills place but even at 1:30pm, it was busy. Mask protocols are definitely in use and the tables appeared to be distanced. They do have a pickup area and an order in area, which is convenient and also helps with the social distancing. When I got my food, I was surprised at the large portions for such a low price! The shrimp salad had several large shrimp on it, eggs, cheese, tomato and cucumber on top of the lettuce. The onion rings were huge and DELICIOUS. So crispy, light batter, allowed you to take a bite without the onion coming out of the breading (a very important metric of onion ring quality). I've already been twice in 2 weeks. So far, I've had the fried fish and the grilled chicken Philly. The fish was fried in a thin layer of tasty batter and came with fries and some good dipping sauce. I highly recommend. The chicken philly was also a good choice. Lots of flavor! I would get both of these dishes again, but there are so many other things on the menu that I want to try. My favorite lunch place in Baton Rouge. Burgers are my go to meal but they have all around good food.

The shrimp po-boy is made with large, hand breaded shrimp - not the tiny, frozen gumbo shrimp most places use. Likewise with the burger, it appears to be a handmade patty - not a frozen pre-formed disc. And both are dressed perfectly with just the right amount of lettuce, tomato, pickle, and mayo. Just perfect. Thick cut, crispy fries are fresh and hot. Didn't have the onion rings, but they looked and smelled wonderful- large and (again) hand battered. I've been told that if you come here at lunch you should call ahead a d get it to go. It gets crowded and parking and seating both get scarce.
