I biked here to meet one of my friends for lunch. She mentioned how much she loved this place and she's a vegetarian, so it says a lot to me. They have a bike loop right in front of the door which is convenient. We went inside to order since the walk-up was closed. It's a fast casual place, so once you go through the line the food is pretty much ready. We had a pup with us so we sat outside on the street patio to eat. It wasn't very busy, so there was plenty of seating. I got the Borracho burrito and it was amazing! This thing was solid and was like a brick in my stomach once I finished. Chicken + Whiskey offers a great Peruvian & Venezuelan fusion. Although the name is a bit puzzling specially if you are not a whiskey drinker, you should definitely try it out. Their pollo a la brasa (roasted chicken) is the best in the city, no doubt. Forget about any other roasted chicken you tired before, I promise you will agree with me. The sides are also really good, with special mention to the guasacaca (a different kind of guacamole - Venezuelan instead of Mexican) with fried plantain chips, the cole slaw and the fried yuca. This spot offers much better value for your money compared to what's available nearby. It's a true gem, hiding in plain sight. The rotisserie chicken served here is absolutely delicious--juicy, perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. My mouth waters just thinking about it! You can get anything from a 1/4 chicken up to a whole bird with sides, like yucca, plantains, rice, and veggies. You can also get a salad, as well as sandwiches and wraps. My go-to order here has usually been a 1/4 chicken with yucca and plantains. Although their portions of the chicken and sides are not very big, the food is really good and the prices very reasonable. There is extensive outdoor seating, with many large picnic tables spaced widely apart. You order your food inside and bring it outside to eat. There is also a curbside bar, so you can order your drinks to go without ever entering the building itself. There is also an indoor whiskey bar, at the back of the restaurant, which has a speakeasy-type ambiance and serves unique cocktails, in addition to standard bar offerings, including a large number of whiskeys to choose from. The ambiance is casual yet 'happening'. This place tends to be particularly popular with a younger crowd, but anyone will find something they like here. It can get quite busy but has never felt crowded the last few times that I came by. The to-go cocktails are decently priced ($10-14) for how much you get and there are several cheap Latin beers also available (priced at about $5.50). Typical Peruvian chicken spot, I ordered the half chicken with fried rice and plantain chips. It was good the sauce was really good too. Love love love this place!! I planned a farewell party for my friend who is leaving the company. We came here for happy hour. They have really great specials. The bartenders were really nice and they worked the whole bar!! I had 3 "2 Tickets to paradise" they were really good. And we all had the sidecar shots they were really refreshing! Very impressed with this establishment. I've been eating charcoal rotisserie chicken for 3 decades and this place really steps up compared to what's out there. Their sauces are more refined and their chicken is juicy. Sides aren't an afterthought (make sure you try the yuca fries with a dusting of tajín - chili, lime and salt seasoning). The indoor seating area is spread out with red zones to enforce the social distancing rules. Hand sanitizer is readily available. It was freezing outside so we felt fine dining indoors. read more

The concept says it all. A 127 year old row house converted to serve quality chicken and whiskey. You can't get more DC than that. They serve chicken dishes for lunch and dinner with a 12-hour brine and no MSG (ever!). My friend ordered a half chicken (still on the bone) and really enjoyed the bold flavors. This former vegetarian still can't do bones, so I opted in for one of their sandwiches. The "pollo frito" sandwich is superb. It's a soft jalapeno cheddar roll stuffed with perfectly fried cassava breaded chicken (all white meat), bacon, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, Greek yogurt mustard sauce, and mayo. It's amazing! In the evening, the space converts to a bar serving 99 international and domestic whiskey. #winning The staff are friendly, fast and the space is large enough to host a party. Did I get a bad batch of chicken? I got 1/2 chicken white which was really dry and chewy. Arroz Chaufa which is basmati rice with soy sauce, rice vinegar, green onion, cilantro, bacon and sesame. This rice was pretty fatty and delicious with the bacon, no complaints there! First time every having arepitas which are deep fried pork crackling corn flour dough. This bird is brined in spices & beer for 12 hours...and this is the secret that brings about an satiable, finger-licking flavor that is seasoned to the bone! On this day I order a whole chicken, which came with a side of yucca fries, plantain chips & salsa. Everything was delicious! I couldn't believe how juicy the chicken was. The yucca fries were super-seasoned and tasty too. But, shockingly....the salsa was incredible! It was so good....and full of chunky tomatoes, onions, and cilantro. It paired really well with the plantain chips! While waiting for my order, I couldn't help but notice this peculiar refrigerator door in the middle of the restaurant. To my surprise, it was a bar and low-key speakeasy spot! Yes, a bar removed from all clear view upon entering the place...as if it was the Prohibition of the 1920s. Hidden behind fake refrigerator door, is a full bar where customers can enjoy over 50 different types of whiskies at a price range from $7 for a pour of bottom rail Evan Williams Black to $28 for a top shelf whiskey like Glen Scotia Victoriana single malt. I am not a whiskey fan, but I did enjoy a Gimlet that was stiff and had me staggering out of there quickly once I got my order. lol In all, I really like this place. The vibe is really cool and the customer service is great. And, having a hidden bar within this spot really elevates the place to something more...than just an ordinary, rotisserie chicken stop. The skin was good although a bit salty, the chicken itself was juicy but not much flavor in it. Went for lunch recently and was really happy with our meal. There's ample outdoor seating right now and is first come first serve. Order at the front and then your food will come out when it's done. Pollo a la brass - we got the half chicken dark meat. Chicken was very good, moist, and flavorful. Definitely a must have. We got the roasted corn salad side which I thought was ok (was expecting something different) and the sweet plantains which I feel like never goes wrong. House made sauces were both very good as well. Reina de Chicharron - the arepa itself I felt was an interesting consistency/texture compared to other arepas but this sandwich was pretty good. SO MUCH avocado which I appreciated. Borracho wrap - comes with the rotisserie chicken inside. Pretty good as well but I would go for the chicken entree itself over the wrap form of it.
