Came here on a Friday night because we wanted a chiller and later HH (goes until 7). 3 of us at 6pm and the front was decently busy with orders but no one in the back bar. Chicken and Whisky is delicious and a spot I always enjoy going back to. I normally order the whole chicken with four sides (Yuca fries are a must when it comes to the sides!) and either have some leftovers (makes for a great chicken sandwich with the leftovers) or share it with two or three other people. When I am sharing it with more than one other person I like to order and extra side or two. There are so many sides to choose from that it's never an easy choice as to what to get but some of my usuals include the Yuca fries, Arroz Congriv and Peperonata Criolla. When you get the whole chicken you get four of the yellow sauce and four of the red sauce but they are happy to switch out any of the sauces for you. On my most recent visit I tried their BBQ sauce but I think I prefer the yellow sauce. There is not a ton of seating inside but outside they have a huge streatery. The outside seating on a nice night is usually very popular so sometimes it is hard to find a seat. read more

I'm giving 5 stars despite the yuca fries being not being the best . That's LITERALLY my only super minor critique and that's only because I'm a picky foodie. I recommend the chicken too but the Mac and cheese is definitely a must. The Mac and cheese alone is very cheesy in taste and great consistency. It's creamy (not watery or too thin), and has a great mix of cheeses. Perfect blend of sharp and mild cheese. NOW THE TOPPINGS? Cute outdoor bar where you can also order food. I love that it's very underrated and just good with little frills but you feel relaxed and at home. Peruvian chicken fans will love this restaurant on 14th St! Indoor restaurant with lots of outdoor seating. Walk up out door bar that serves high quality, classic, Peruvian chicken. We only popped in for the speak easy aspect of the entire establishment. This might be a slightly biased review because of this fact. You've been warned. So when you venture through the fake fridge/freezer door you are entered into a new world of (loud) music and libations! It's fun, dark, intimate and energetic. The best Peruvian chicken I have ever had! This place packs it with flavor! I highly recommend just getting the chicken on its own instead of a wrap. It not only has that rotisserie flavor you expect from a Peruvian chicken place, but it is really nice and smokey too. That smokiness is what really sets this place apart from other Peruvian chicken spots. The chicken itself is really moist and perfectly seasoned. Why order it on its own instead of a wrap? Because you can really appreciate how special this chicken is that way. If you decide to get a wrap though, they are also really good. I don't recommend getting a wrap delivered, because it will arrive soaked in grease, but at the restaurant it's tasty. I recommend the Borracho Wrap! My favorite sides are the arroz chaufa, plantains, and yucca fries. The arroz chaufa is rice with a great smokiness from the bacon mixed into it and the flavors of soy, vinegar, and cilantro. It's really amazing. The plantains are perfect - soft, creamy, sweet, and a perfect accompaniment to the smoky flavor of the chicken. The yucca chips are better than fries - crunchy but not hard, and really flavorful. I keep going back because it's that good! read more

December 2021 - COVID Review: This was a nice spot to visit for my group's pregame festivities! Business in the front and party in the back! There's a regular chicken restaurant at the front, but if you walk towards the back, there's a security guard by the door to check for IDs before you can enter the "speakeasy-esque" bar in the back. The bar was crowded and the bartenders were slammed but I appreciated how quickly they worked to get our orders in. The mixed cocktails were pretty good and I tried my first pickleback shots here! The pickle juice that they use is house made and it had strong hints of lime in it, which definitely helped as a chaser. There's a DJ in the bar too and I appreciated that they have a water cooler with cups so that you can also stay hydrated. The bar can definitely get packed with barely any room to move around. So if you wanna bar hop and/or pregame, this is a good stop to add to your list! read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I came in for lunch today and was pleased from start to finish. First, when you walk in, the whole sprint is upbeat, with pumping music by artists like Rodrigo Ugarte. I ordered the 1/4 chicken with sides of yucca and plantains. Highlights: -The chicken was soooo tender and juicy! Cooked to perfection and seasoned with excellence. -Plantains were nicely seasoned--which isn't super common but was delicious. They had just the right amount of bite. -The yucca was just fantastic, with just the right amount of crisp on the outside. Like, I'm about to cry because it was all so good. -They have Guaraná and Inca Kola, from Brazil and Perú, respectively. I rarely see these drinks around here, so that was awesome! -The open seating area is simple and usable. It's all just great! I will DEFINITELY be back here...a lot. I always go for the half chicken which is cooked perfectly each and every time. Be sure to try their Yuca fries as they're some of the best I've had and they pair perfectly with the sauces. I wish they had a spicier sauce option but the yellow sauce really tastes great with the chicken! The plantains are also outstanding here so be sure to try these out as well. Sometimes this place can be super busy especially around 6 pm so be sure to budget your time appropriately as you may be waiting a little while to place your order at the window. Finally tried Chicken + Whiskey and I was pleased! After a long day of day drinking for St. Paddy's Day, this place hit the spot. And yes, I would eat here sober : ) We had drank enough for the day, so there was no drinking of whiskey (or any more alcohol at this point). The chicken here is actually rotisserie Peruvian style chicken. For some reason, I had envisioned this place as a wings spot in my head. I ordered the quarter chicken and two sides (rice & beans and roasted corn). Everything was delicious, but I don't understand why there was a $1 upcharge for the roasted corn. I mean it was good yes, but why an upcharge? I think the portions for the sides were a bit small from what I'm used to at a typical Peruvian eatery. The sauces were really good, especially the spicy one.
