Great Peruvian Chicken here. I got a 1/2 chicken white with 2 sides and added the heat onto the chicken. The skin on the chicken was delicious and the meat was juicy and tasted so fresh. Aroz congri (basamati rice with green onion, soy sauce, bacon & cilantro) had different flavors with each bite which accompanied the chicken quite well. I didn't love the Yuca fries as the other side as they didn't have much flavor. Plantains would have been a better choice or double down on the rice. Service was helpful and knowledgeable as well which was much appreciated!!! read more

My review so much isn't about the place, but more-so about a fail on the bartenders part. As someone who doesn't drink, I still enjoy the fellowship of being out in social settings without having to drink alcohol. After ordering a SHIRLEY TEMPLE, I noticed it tasted weird. My immediate thought was that instead of using grenadine, they maybe used a house made syrup. So I tasted it a few more times and realized it was some sort of alcohol flavor. I went back to the bartender and asked if there was alcohol in the Shirley temple and she informed me that the cherry juice that she used was infused with bourbon. After I pointed out that she should have told me the cherry juice had bourbon added to it, she was very nonchalant. What the hell?!?! I ordered a non-alcoholic drink! Why the heck would I want alcohol in it?!? Thank God I'm not pregnant or a recovering alcoholic! This is unacceptable. That poor judgement on the part of a bartender could send someone into a spiral and cause a major relapse. Do better! read more

Updated Go there, do not order through Grubhub. If you do your order might come cold and soggy. I called and had a bad experience with poor customer service aside from the issues related to Grubhub. Honestly that was a surprise since I usually have a great experience in person. When your there the line moves pretty quickly, the food looks fresh and getting your order right is never a problem since its all done in front of you. Great beer selection at checkout is a plus. I can recommend any of the items except for the Reina de Chicharron cause I haven't had it yet. The Pollo a la Brasa (Rotisserie Chicken) is great, Borracho wrap hits the spot and Pollo a la Brasa Wrap with its good mix of Rotisserie and Sweet Plantains are a few of my faves. If you have time hit the bar in the back, cause why not. Great selection of drinks, pretty good music and the crowd always seems to be having a good time. My first experience here was with my cousins (a group of 20/30/40 year old Latinos) celebrating one of their birthday so you can imagine we were out to have fun and this pit stop for food did not disappoint. I like that the owner/manger is attentive to understanding good customer service. Yeah a restaurant is about the food but service makes or breaks the experience. I was in town for a prom and wanted to try something different. I found this place right here on Yelp and decided to Lyft it over there. Once inside I was trying to figure out what I would eat considering I'm not eating meat. I asked about possibly leaving the chicken off of a sandwich or wrap but the young lady decided it wouldn't be a good idea. I honestly really wanted to try the chicken because it looked so good. But I decided to try the Inti Wrap minus the avacado and the guaran drink. I decided to stay there and eat and it was so very good. The plantains provided a nice sweet to the savory of the wrap and it was simply a great bite of food. I only ate half because I already had my heart set on ice cream so I saved the rest for the next day. The guaran was also very nice. I would definitely come back here when back in town. read more

Great fast casual spot on 14th. Would love to come here again to try everything else. Short wait on a late Sunday afternoon. I split the half chicken with my friend and it's definitely on par with some of the Peruvian chicken spots in Virginia. I'd say if you can't make it to Virginia from DC, this place will do to get your Peruvian chicken fix. We also split the Pollo Frito and it's definitely one of the better fried chicken sandwiches I've had. The crispy bacon on this makes the sandwich so addictive. The soft jalapeno brioche bun/bread had me suspicious if it was going to work well, but since the chicken is fried and the bacon is so crispy, it compliments it perfectly. This 5 star review is for both quality of the food and quality of the service I received. I honestly don't know why it took me so long to try this place. Perhaps I was hesitant because nearly everything on the menu includes cilantro (an abomination of an herb). Today I ordered the borracho wrap online and requested no cilantro. The restaurant then called me to say that cilantro is mixed into several components, so they could omit those if I wanted, but they don't think it has a strong cilantro taste as is. I decided to take a leap of faith, but I was already braced for a mouth full of soapy flavor (curse you, genes). Instead, when I bit in, it was delicious. I searched for the cilantro flavor but if it was there, it was well masked. The wrap has a slight and delicious kick to it as well! So, I really appreciated them calling to see if I actually had an allergy and then advising me as best they could. It turned out to be very tasty. Cilantro haters, don't be afraid of this wrap! Food is overall really tasty and fairly priced for fast casual. Most go for the Peruvian rotisserie chicken, but the Borracho wrap is my favorite. Definitely a gem to 14th street, which tends to be dominated more by sit-down restaurants. Only compliant is that the folks preparing the food seem to prepare orders non-sequentially or occasionally lose track of orders. For example, I'll ask for my wrap, and yet folks way behind me in line will be checking out at the register before my wrap has even started being prepared. On more than one occasion, I've seen them accidentally hand my wrap to a delivery courier, and they totally forgot about my order until I've waited several minutes and have to remind them. I'd expect those types of mistakes at McDonalds but not this establishment. This shouldn't prevent anyone from giving this place a try, but if Cava and Sweetgreen have figured out this logistics process without error, so should Chicken + Whiskey. read more

I've always passed this restaurant but never stopped in. It wasn't until my home decided to host his birthday happy hour here that I checked it out. The front area of the restaurant is just that, a restaurant but in the back where the freezer door is where all the magic is, the bar. Its not huge but enough space to host friends or grab a drink. I will say, you have to check it out for Happy Hour yourself, the drink deals are amazing. I started out with Whiskey Sour and asked the bar tender to create a fruitier whiskey drink for me. My first time here and I was thoroughly impressed. My boyfriend and I ordered the whole chicken with 4 sides (our usual at Peruvian chicken places). The price is pretty comparable to other roasted chicken spots. The chicken was amazing! I generally eat the dark meat first in case I don't have enough room for the white meat, which I think is dry and not fatty and juicy like dark meat--but they pretty much tasted the same! I was pretty amazed! Probably has something to do with them cooking the chicken for 12 hours. Our meal came with two sauces--the classic yellow aji sauce that's a little more savory than most (which I enjoyed more) and another darker orange aji sauce (the spicier Peruvian pepper, forgive me, I can't remember the name but it's no joke). Both were delicious. I am a sauce girl and I was worried it wouldn't be enough, but the chicken was flavorful enough past the skin, I didn't need as much! For sides, we ordered two sides of yuca, arepitas, and the chaufa rice. The yuca was crispy, lightly topped with seasoning. The arepitas were lightly crispy opinion the outer layer with a smooth transition to softness at the pork core. The chaufa rice did become a little much at the end, but that's because we ordered mostly fried sides! It was still delicious and I would order again. There's a cute bar in the back, past a door that looks like the entrance to a freezer. I took a peek but didn't order any drinks this time around. After a few cocktails on a Friday night, our stomachs were rumbling and we needed something more substantial than bar snacks. It was late enough for the 14th St. restaurants to be closed and while the bars were busy, the menus were lean. Chicken + Whiskey stood out like a shining beacon on a chilly December night, beckoning is with the promise of both grease and alcohol. Neither my friend nor I had been yet but had heard about the speakeasy in the back, so we hesitantly asked at the register and were directed through a freezer door into a back room. It wasn't too crowded but was by no means empty, and we snagged some stood at the bar and got our food order in before selecting drinks because, priorities. The bar didn't seem to have the full menu that the fast-casual restaurant served, but there was a decent mount of options that were absolutely delicious. The yucca fries were thick, chunky slabs of starch goodness with some sort of avocado dip (not guacamole) that was amazingly tasty. We split the reina de chicharron, which had pork crackling "bread" (not like the doughy arepas I'm used to) sandwiching chunks of rotisserie chicken and avocado. Crunchy outside and tender, flavorful inside. We also had some sort of nacho-esque roll cut into two pieces that was filled with chicken and cheesy goodness and coated on the outside with Dorito crumbs. Of the three things we ordered, they were all winners and there was not a morsel left on any of the plates. I'm getting really hungry just writing about it. As the name would imply, there's a sizable whiskey menu. I'm not one to usually drink it straight, so I ordered the Rob Roy, which is whiskey with butters, cherry and vermouth. It was good, but I was way too distracted but the yummy food to pay more attention to the cocktail. A great spot for late-night noms--will definitely be back and looking forward to trying out more of the food menu during daylight hours. read more

The back bar has a slightly different menu with food, which was good (but not as a good as the wraps). The drinks we got were pretty tasty and a better price than we were expecting. This review is for the speakeasy in the back. Drinks are phenomenal and there's a late hh. hollaaaa. Here on a Thursday and holy shit it was packed. I'm not a fan of crowded dark loud bars where you have to fight for the bartenders attention, shout at your friends to be heard and have people pressed up against you if you're lucky enough to snag bar seats so this will never be my regular place but the drinks are great and the music is fun. I have to say, I greatly enjoyed this spot. I had the Pollo a la Brasa wrap, and while I was weary at first to have a plantain in my wrap, it worked quite well! The chicken was quality, I loved all the sauces and flavors, it was really good! My bf's chicken was delicious, while the sides - white rice and cole slaw - were alright. The slaw had a kick to it, just so you know. The greeter at the door was very enthusiastic about the place, and it seemed like everyone involved was really passionate about their restaurant, which is nice to see. When they're invested in their restaurant, it shows in the food. And if they're going to stay open late like they say they are, I'll be here a lot more! read more

Visited Chicken & Whiskey for a casual dinner on a Wednesday night. The verdict: I highly recommend this spot. Atmosphere/Service- Casual environment, quick service. Food- DELISH. You have several great options but not getting chicken here (and whiskey) is clearly a crime. I ordered a 1/2 white chicken which comes with two sides- ordered the guasacaca and arroz congri, along with another side of corn and plantains. EVERYTHING was delicious. But the chicken in particular is the star of the show. First of all, the sauces are delicious but the chicken is juicy and tender it needs no further embellishment. The bar in the back is also a great spot- I ordered the G5 Playa and the drink was excellent. Overall, great value for a solid amount of food. The soup is also supposed to be great. read more

First off, for a chain, it feels authentic and the vibe for having a happy hour is on point. The murals and signage is clear and easy to see upon entering. The staff is courteous and helpful in making choices. A group of us were looking for some quick food to pick up, nothing too heavy but also tasty. This place hits the spot for just that! Obviously besides the speak easy in the back the food is great. We got the Pollo Frito and The Baracha Wrap, both easy to eat and tasty with all the great flavors. The frito is for those who want a savory fried chicken sandwich with avocado and bacon. The wrap is for those who want a savory burrito with yucca, avocado, pico etc. The food was made quickly and is great for pick up and delivery. Food was average, atmosphere is not conducive to big groups and social gatherings that are not in the bar, and value is pretty low. Prices are too much for what is being given, sure the family chicken deals are a bit more bang for your buck but a lot of similar chicken places will offer just as tasty pollo for cheaper. Why was food average? Many reasons. Chicken bland. Portions small. Sandwiches just okay and not very flavorful. Guac was also nothing special, very under salted, and tasted like multiple day-old guac that had been taken out of the fridge instead of freshly prepared. It was too mushy and bland, and honestly Chipotle has a better/fresher tasting one. Yellow sauce was good, spicy sauce not really. You get three measly pieces of yucca with your order ... those tasted good but again value is an issue and I would have appreciated more sauces. However, I love the drink selection (get the inca cola it's like OG Vanilla Coke) and it seemed like people were streaming here to head straight to the bar, so maybe come for the whiskey and pass on the overpriced and underflavored chicken. My boyfriend eats Peruvian chicken all the time (he's from NOVA region) and he didn't think anything was special about the chicken here. Chicken + Whiskey is a really interesting concept - chicken joint in the front, whiskey bar in the back. I went here with a friend on a Sunday night, so the place was pretty calm. They only had dark meat when we got there, which was a bit disappointing, but luckily dark meat is delicious. I got a quarter-chicken dark meat with sweet plantains and black beans. All in all, I was a little underwhelmed. The chicken was good but nothing to write home about; maybe this was due to it sitting for a while on a slow Sunday night. The plantains were great (but when aren't they?), and the black beans could've used a little more depth of flavor. I ended my meal satisfied but not impressed. After eating we made our way through the freezer door to the whiskey bar. The whiskey list is strong, and not super expensive either! I appreciate the listing of mostly approachable whiskeys. I pointed out to the bartender a particular bourbon I enjoyed, and the bartender was able to recommend a similar, new whiskey for me - great job! Curious to see how crowded it gets on the weekends, but we had no issue with space on a Sunday night. I'll swing by again if I'm in the neighborhood, or in the mood for some whiskey. read more

This is a solid, solid post-show spot. Came here after a concert on u street and this place provided amazing food, at an amazing price, at just the right time. My group all shared food, and everyone's meal was flavorful. I got the Reina De Chicharon, and this had a fantastic taste. The arepa itsself was so different from what I was used to. The chicken/avocado filling tasted amazing and was enhanced when you added the orange/red sauce. Ambiance is amazing considering there is a speak-easy type bar in the back. The bar tenders are serving up tasty drinks, and paired with the amazing chicken, this is a winning combo. The only thing that prevents a 5-star review is just that this spot seems very specific to me. I wouldn't recommend it if I had an entire evening in DC. Nevertheless, u would certainly recommend this place for after a concert or Ustreet activities. read more

I got the pollo frito sandwich which seemed like a basic sandwich at first but the ingredients were definitely treated with love. That Peruvian bread alone was worth it. They also have this yellow sauce that you can probably lather on a flip flop and enjoy. I tried some of the buracho wrap which is made with the Peruvian rotisserie chicken and that was also bomb. It eats more like a burrito because of the ingredients but it's definitely worth it. This place also has a speakeasy in the back of the restaurant which is where the "whiskey" part comes in. I was already lit so I didn't bother to go in there but from the looks of it was probably rocking. The food alone should get you in the door. read more

This spot was a pleasant discovery after having dinner out on U st. Who wouldn't want to stop into a place called Chicken and Whiskey. First sign that the food was good, is that everyone that was in their eating looked like they were in food heaven. One person in their saw that we were pondering the menu and said try the reina de chicharon, which is one of their sandwiches. I foodie rudely (I know it's not polite to ask people what they are eating. But I had to) asked someone what they were eating because it just looked so good. They had another one of the chicken sandwiches. Our final decision was the half chicken, with a side of yuca and arroz Chaufa. The chicken is A la brasa so I was curious to see how it compares to all the hundreds that are out there. This was by far one of the best I've ever had. Juicy, well seasoned, smoky flavor!! Just amazing. Yuca great, and even better when dipped in their sauces. One is a spicy red with a good kick the other a white more mayo based sauce with good flavor. That was the food...now onto drinks. When you walk to the back of the restaurant there is a secret space which is where the fun starts!!! It's whiskey heaven. They have a variety of cocktails that are reasonably priced for DC. They had great music, and the bartenders were super friendly. Overall this spot knocked it out of the park. My only issue with this place was that it does get quite hectic in there and the team behind the counter seemed a bit scattered. It could be because it was a late night rush. My wife and I stopped by here for a night cap, got great service, the front of house was managed exceptionally well by Spencer. Great drinks great good, ask for the seasonal cocktail. We didn't get the bartenders name (my fault!) but she had a tattoo on her arm that looked like a red string tied around her are and she was moving around the bar making drinks while still being attentive to everyone at the bar. honestly idk what i was doing last time w the three star mb; this place is THE lifesaver mvp goat when ur on the 14th st strip and a) dont want to spend 200$ to be half-full or b) you do want to spend 200$ to be half-full BUT every restaurant has a wait-time of 2+hrs bc its 14th st and u just didn't have ur life together enough to make reservations in advance food is nothing crazy but again it hits on 14th. chicken moist, plantains bomb, corn salsa and rice also bomb. would skip the slaw it didn't rly have much taste to it. they also have solid outdoor seating which is a plus! p.s if ur from maryland and just weirdly obsessed w nandos for no apparent reason (u need to get out some more) then come here read more
