14th Street staple right here - open late on weekends and open fairly late now on weekdays as well. Every time I've visited, I've tried to order something different. So far, my favorite menu items have been the Pollo Frito sandwich (which can be a little dry because the bread is so dense, so I'd recommend asking for extra aji amarillo mayonnaise or dipping the sandwich in some kind of sauce, and Nacho's Poquito Wraps, which I'd recommend sharing with a few others since they're really heavy. If you want to drink hard liquor, you'll have to head to the back bar, but you can order beers in the front. I really like that there's an area to sit outside which feels good late at night. read more

This place is awesome. The name is quite literal, as they have a rotisserie chicken in the front spot, and then a speakeasy in the back. You would never know the speakeasy/bar is back there if you weren't looking for it! One nondescript door is all that stands in your way (and well apparently a long line, sometimes, but not when we went). Anyway, the food is excellent. They have chicken plus a ton of delicious sides like arepitas (mini arepas, so tasty), friend plantains, beans, etc, and wraps and whatnot. The back has a full bar with a lot of cool cocktails. Lots of unique side dishes like fried plantains, pickled veggies with fennel, corn and tomato... Good protein choices for those following a lower carb eating style. The chicken is tender and moist. The price was a little more than anticipated- $79 with tip for four of us for food only. We did have nice leftovers to bring home though. I got the Borracho Wrap and added black beans. Ohhhhh man it was so good. It had so much flavor, the chicken was delicious, and the side sauces are AMAZING. I usually prefer really spicy sauces but their mild green sauce is bomb. The hot one is delicious too. Perfect sauces to compliment the flavors of the wrap too - I tried my own hot sauce on it and it didn't compliment it nearly as well so I stuck to the salsas. This is a review for the bar in the back. I've been three times now, and every time it's been good drinks, good service, good music, and a good crowd. It's fun and lively but not rowdy/pushy. My favorite drink was the Don't you know I'm loco that I had last time, but all of the drinks have been tasty. The bar obviously gets cool points for having a hidden entrance behind a walk in freezer door, but it stands in its own. Also, unlike other speak easy spots, it can hold a lot more people and has more dancing and mingling going on. Overall, I highly recommend trying this place out if you can find it ;) read more

The food IS SO FRESH AND SO GOOD! OMG! If I wasn't so hard to park nearby during business hours they would have all my money! I had a bad experience with them picking up an order via Uber Eats awhile back. The closing staff was pretty rude to me, didn't understand that I was picking up and was pretty sloppy with putting my order together so I complained. Do you know management sent me a coupon to try them out again?! So I used the coupon and I was so happy I did! The food here is AWESOME!!! They are committed to great customer service and really pay attention to their reviews. My only complaint and I would probably apply this to most restaurants, avoid ordering within the last hour of closing. People get tired and want to go home. My friends and I came here because we were hungry and someone found it on Yelp, so we walked here from our airbnb. As soon as we opened the door, we were hit with amazing smells of chicken. I was already hungry before we got here, but after getting inside, I was even more hungry. The menu is painted on really big on the side of the wall, but there were also paper menus that you could look at as well. It took me awhile to figure out what I wanted and I finally settled on pollo a la brasa. I wasn't sure what size I wanted, so I watched one of my friends order first to see how big the chickens were. He got a 1/2 chicken and I had assumed it was half a chicken. Nope! It was a whole tiny chicken, but cut in half and you got both parts. 1/4 chicken (light or dark) is half the tiny chicken, but cut in half from that and you got both of those parts. I decided to also get 1/2 chicken. The 2 sides I chose were roasted corn and yuca fries. The food was placed on a metal tray with a paper on top of the tray. Pretty simplistic, but it worked. After I paid, I sat down at a counter to eat my food. The first bite of the chicken and I was in love. I practically inhaled my food because it was so, so good. I almost wanted to go back and order another tray of food so I could stuff myself silly. There was a bar in the back that had the whiskey and other alcoholic drinks (thus Chicken + Whiskey), but the food alone was just that amazing. My friend and I came to Chicken + Whiskey on a Friday night for dinner and drinks. We started at front restaurant section for dinner. We split a half chicken meal with yuca fries and plantains as the two sides for a total of about $15. This was plenty of food for both of us. To order, you walk up to the long counter, where the employee cuts the pieces of chicken in front of you. You then follow him down the line to pick your sides, until you reach the register at the end. It was all very quick and easy. We did have to wait for the yuca fries, as they were currently in the fryer, and it took a little long. But it was worth it for the fresh, warm fries! I feel like yuca fries can sometimes get a bit dried out, but these were perfect on their own. They also tasted delicious with both of the sauces though. I love spicy, but in my opinion, the red sauce was spicy without much other flavor, so I actually preferred the mild, yellowish sauce. The chicken was very tender and juicy and also went well with both sauces. The plantains were good as dessert, drenched in a honey that covered our entire tray. They also were a good way to break up the spiciness when eating food with the red sauce. After dinner, we moved to the bar in the back. This is very well hidden, behind a door that looks like it leads to a walk-in fridge. I even asked my friend if she was sure we should be going back there as we approached, because I was so wary of this. But lo and behold, there is a secret bar behind that door, with a totally different vibe than the low-key, fast food-esque restaurant up front. When we walked in, there were two seats available at the bar, seemingly waiting for us! This put us right in front of the bartender, Julia, who was so freaking awesome! This girl was taking like 5 cocktail orders at a time, a shaker in each hand, all the while chatting with customers and without breaking a sweat. Epitome of cool. She gave us some great drink recommendations and chatted with us about the Passport Program, as my friend and I both came in as part of that program. The Passport Program got us 2 for 1 drinks, which applies to the cocktails at Chicken + Whiskey. I got the "Relax Gringo, I'm Legal" (Mezcal, pineapple, OJ, coconut, cinnamon) and the "Alright, Alright, Alriiight" (Rum, lemon, orgeat, passionfruit tea) and my friend got the "Donde Esta la Becky" (vodka, pineapple juice, blood orange, lemon, bitters) and the "Best Boliv It" (Rujero, strawberries, lime, ginger beer). Both of my friend's drinks were very sweet, so I don't think I'd have more than one of either of those. For the Relax Gringo, I totally glossed over the type of liquor in the cocktail. I normally don't enjoy Mezcal, but when I drank this cocktail from the rim of the glass, rather than from the straw, I got a little bit of the cinnamon with each sip, which really mellowed out the smoky flavor and made this a really enjoyable drink. My second drink was also very good, but on the sweeter side as well. I would definitely like to return to Chicken + Whiskey and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a location for a quick dinner and chill drinks right after. read more

The bar itself is pretty neat speakeasy. It's hidden behind the freezer door as you head towards the bathroom. People line up on weekends to get in but don't worry, the line moves pretty quickly because of the efficient bar tenders. Make sure you don't skip the chicken part of the restaurant! The service when my fiancé and I went was very poor. My fiancé ordered their shredded chicken wrap and come to find out when my fiancé began to eat, he pulled bones out of it that were capable of choking someone. When we reported it to the manager at the time, he didn't even care at all and he said that he would notify the kitchen to be careful next time. No consideration taken towards the actual situation and my fiancé. My fiancé could've choked on the bones. Solid spot for some late night Peruvian chicken. I went with a few friends for a quick bite and ordered the quarter chicken (dark) with the plantains and beans. I actually ordered beans and rice for one of my sides, but it was a little noisy and I think the server misheard and gave me a side of just beans. I tend to compare all of my Peruvian chicken to Sardi's (ate too much of it while I was a student at College Park!!) and the chicken here was just as good - piping hot, perfectly cooked interior with a super flavorful skin. The plantains were also excellent, with a little bit of crispy caramelization on the ends. I'm knocking off a star because I didn't like the beans at all, the flavor was bland and I only ate a few bites. The portion of chicken and plantains was enough to fill me up. My friends had good things to say about the fried yucca and the chicken wrap. I am so utterly disgusted by the way I was treated in this establishment I barely know where to begin...... After seeing numerous, glowing reviews of this bar on TikTok I decided to give it a try. However, my experience was nowhere near that of those customers. I was stereotyped, belittled and completely embarrassed by both security and management. It all began when I decided to venture into the Speakeasy. It started off about as typical as one would expect. Security ID'd me and even joked about my youthful appearance and how my ID might be fake. After a brief bit of banter I proceeded into the bar, found a spot at the end of the counter, ordered a drink and pulled out my phone to peruse the news of the day. After finishing my first drink, the same security person that I'd shared laughs with earlier in the night about my age came over and said I needed to leave. I thought it was all in jest so I brushed it off. He then advised it was not a joke and I needed to close my tab and exit the premises. I was absolutely stunned as I had not done anything to warrant being asked to go. When I questioned him as to why he replied my presence was making others uncomfortable and claimed I'd been videotaping them while they were dancing. I was floored! The accusations were absurd. I had done nothing other than sit at the bar and mind my business. There was no proof to substantiate either of the claims being made. I even offered to let him go through my phone as evidence of my innocence. Those words fell on deaf ears. After a few coarse words between myself and the security guard, I asked to speak with a manager. He left and when he returned advised that the manager would only speak with me outside. When I exited the manager was outside awaiting me. Again, I inquired about what I did to warrant this treatment. I was once more given some cockamamie bull about filming people. I retorted that I honestly didn't give a single damn about anyone in that place enough to record them. I asked them for proof, security footage, anything to validate these ridiculous assertions. They refused and demanded I leave. The manager eventually admitted even if the claims were false the discomfort of others in my presence was enough to warrant my removal from the building. WHAT?! In my anger, I spewed a few more colorful words at them and stormed off. Anyone else in my shoes would have done the exact same. As one of a mere handful of minorities in this establishment the racial prejudice displayed in this situation was down right sickening. As a 6'0, 195 lb black man it is not incumbent upon me to make myself appear less threatening for the sake of those around me. Even more disheartening is that I am an officer of the law who'd just ended a long shift and was only looking to unwind a bit before heading home. As someone who has sworn to protect and serve others at the risk of my own safety, it was completely dehumanizing to be treated this way. I won't ever patronize this place again nor will I recommend it to anyone. I will reserve my business for establishments who know how to treat their patrons with dignity and respect, regardless of their appearance. read more

There had been a lot of hype recently due to the recent opening of Chicken + Whiskey. After talking about going for several weeks, I finally made the trek here. The front part is a restaurant as you walk in. Behind what looks like a freezer door takes you to a wonderful cocktail bar. I don't know much about whiskey (beer snob here), there were 99 types. Most people were getting the old fashioned, which is $6 during happy hour. Even though they used Evan Williams in the drink, it was still good. After a couple of drinks, we headed to the restaurant and each ordered a half chicken platter, which comes with two sides. The food was decent, but nothing like Sardi's. The spot is in a perfect location right on 14th st. There is a cute patio to eat at, as well as seating inside. You walk in and it is a very casual walk up to order feel. You have a variety of options to choose from too. The chicken is perfectly cooked... It is juicy and has a unique taste to it that makes you want to eat as much of it as you can. They have 2 sauces to go with it, I prefer the yellow sauce because it is creamy with a little kick. The sides are really good too! One of my favorite things about this place, besides the food, is the bar area in the back. If you walk to the back there is a fully stocked bar behind this refrigerator looking door.
