The bartenders chip the ice cubes off of a larger ice block so their ice is of premium quality! And by premium quality ice, I mean there are no air bubbles and it don't water down the spirits :) Just to warn you, it does get quite crowded in the hidden bar so it may take a while to order a drink and you will likely not find a seat. It's a nice place to come for your fancy drink before you head out partying for the night on 14th street. I'd love to try the food in the front part of the establishment. Stopped here to eat after attending a matinee stage play downtown. The staff was helpful in suggesting how we could save a few bucks on lunch (Whole chicken vs 2 half chicken dinners). The chicken was moist and flavorful. I ordered the pickled vegetables and Asian style rice which was just ok. It was prepared with Basmati rice but the rice was a tad dry and overcooked. My husband ordered the classic staples at a Latin restaurant...beans and rice and sweet plantains (you can't go wrong with that). It was nice to see they offer soft drink brands with real sugar as opposed to high fructose corn syrup. We would certainly visit here again if in the area. I went there yesterday, and I had a truly wonderful experience! The staff was friendly, the food was ready upon ordering, and the food was completely delicious! I went there around 2:30 PM, so the restaurant itself was less busy and my friend and I could find a seat while remaining distanced from other customers. The food itself was absolutely flavorful! The chicken was hot and beautifully seasoned, and the sides were great too! As for price, the food was portioned just right: I ate enough to feel completely satisfied, but didn't end up feeling gross afterwards. This restaurant/bar is two good places in one building. One rule: "you can bring the whiskey into the chicken, but you can't take the chicken into the whiskey." That means you can drink your whiskey in the restaurant area, but you can't eat in the bar area. They have a very large selection of whiskeys served however you would like. The chicken is roasted with spices that add to the wonderful flavor. You have a choice of serving sizes: ¼, half, or full. You can also opt for all white meat or all dark meat, if that is more to your liking. Each order comes with one or two sides. We got the slaw, and beans and rice. No matter what you order, you will not be disappointed. All of the food is tremendous. The quality of the food here is just disappointing. The chicken is really dry, although it has a nice crust and is seasoned well. In spite of this as well as all the "stuff" piled on the chicken sandwich, it was relatively flavorless. I was so excited when I found this place but it was a total let down. Which is surprising because it has 4 star reviews. When I was ordering the cashier had an attitude and snapped at me when she didn't understand my order. It was my first time there and I had questions but apparently you can't ask anything. I had higher expectations and....I came in at 1:30 pm on a weekday. In fact it was March Madness and the Terps were playing in the Big 10 Tournamanent. I was really hoping to find a place to have a whiskey and watch the game. Well the "Chicken + Whiskey" bar doesnt open until 5pm. I got a peek inside and there was no TV. OK....So I go for the Peruvian chicken. I got a 1/4" chicken, carribean cole slaw, plantains and a cusquena, beer. Meh. I wasnt horrible but wasnt great either. I've been here a few times and it's a great addition to 14th St. the food in the front half is delicious. I got the borracho wrap and would definitely order again. You get a good vibe when you walk in and see all the chicken cooking on the rotisserie behind the ordering counter. After he realized that he had been ignored he tried to address him again and then once more in Spanish to ensure that he was understood. I don't know if the server was discriminatory against someone for being LGBTQ or not, but it was clear that he was being rude. Once we paid, management said they would come talk to us but didn't. I ordered the whole chicken meal which came with four sides. I specially asked the individual what was the portions for each individual side, her response was 16 oz. Not thinking this would be enough for my family I added two additional sides to go along with the meal. I picked up my meal via curbside since this is the new normal. When I arrived home my order included one whole chicken with six 8oz sides which clearly was not enough to feed my family. Hubby and I stopped in for a bite and drink. The atmosphere is cool with the eatery in the front and bar in the back. There is a smaller bar menu and craft cocktails. We both order a sandwich that listed the ingredients as chicken & avocado in sort of like a fried pita pocket and the BOGO whiskey special. The bartender asked if we wanted to open a tab. My husband provided his card and we took a seat. The bartender brought two different orders to us thinking it was ours. I did notice that those orders were placed after ours. It appeared that it was missed. At any rate, we get our food and it is covered in cilantro. My husband brought mine back to the bar and asked if I could get one without cilantro noting that it was not listed as a ingredient. He called me over and she flippantly said that cilantro was there "staple garnish" so everything is going to have it. She offered chicken fingers since that was the only item without garnish. Apparently, it wasn't something that can be left off because it was throughout and "custom" orders are hard to do from the bar. Poor response. Note that the eatery (which has many options) is steps away, but not an option when you are at the bar. The rating is for the atmosphere & drinks. As an Arlington resident, I've had my fair share of Pollo a la Brasa and found Chicken + Whiskey to be quite tasty. I stopped in in last Saturday with a few friends for dinner and cocktails. We were pleasantly greeted by the host who helped us find a menu. The restaurant itself is still a work in progress as you will notice the wall art is half way done. Contrary to the decor, the menu is a fully developed. I had a half chicken and shared a few sides with friends. All of the sides were distinct in taste and it was nice to see the majority of items were Gluten free. I can't remember the last time I tasted black beans that actually tasted unique, every side had its own character of flavor that made my mouth water (Yuca fries, Plantains, guasacaca). After enjoying our meal we went to the back the (+ Whiskey part). Walk through the freezer door in the back and you'll find a speakeasy'ish Whiskey bar. Signature cocktails are priced reasonably at 10 dollars. I had a few (too many) L.S.O.P #14's which is bourbon with sour cherry, lemon, and honey... Amazing. If you prefer your Whiskey on the rocks it's served with a hand-chipped chunk of translucent ice. Chicken: The chicken was not fall off the bone. If you've had Peruvian chicken from Sardis then this is not it. It's more like an average rotisserie chicken you would find at WholeFoods. Sides: The avocado side was CRAZY salty. No joke, it's 100% sodium. Someone needs to do quality control on this. Really bad. I was excited to try this placed based off their reviews and menu. When we first walked in, it seemed more like a chipotle than how they advertise on their website. You would think with the word whiskey in the name they would advertise it more. When asked about the whiskey drinks the woman told me we had to of ordered from the bar side which we had no idea there was one because the entrance is hidden in the back which looks like a door going into the kitchen. We ordered the Tiritas De Pollo, fried plantains and the Nachos Poquito Wraps. Before we could even pay, the Tiritas De Pollo (chicken strips) and fried plantains were instantly placed on a tray and then waited 10 minutes for the Nachos Poquito Wraps to cook. I had to asked for new chicken strips and plantains because they had to of been cold a this point. Now had to wait 5 more minutes for new food. All this time waiting and the food was just horrible. Being a former chef, I know for a fact they flash fry their chicken strips so they can cook to order faster. The problem is the chicken was so over cooked, chewy and just not good at all. The fried nacho wraps were 70% fried tortilla with little filling. The fried plantains were okay but too chewy for me because they aren't fried to order. My most recent Sunday funday included a visit to Chicken + Whiskey. I've written about enjoying their food after a (long) night of drinking, but this was me giving them chance with no liquor to influence my tastebuds. My friend and I grabbed a whole chicken which comes with two sides. Let's start with the chicken...it was fresh out and cooked to perfection. I'm not a fan of chicken breast because they're usually dry, but this wasn't the case. It was tender, juicy and had a banging seasoning on it. I chose the peperonata criolla and arroz congri as my two sides which came in nice sized portions. The veggies were super tasty and had a little kick from the peppers which added to the over all appeal. The rice was just okay, but I think it had the potential to be really good. I think maybe the batch had been sitting for a while as it had the "this rice has been sitting out" vibe...not warm and not as soft. I'd still go back and give it a try with a fresh batch, though! I had the "Becky, Do You Love Me?" Which was vodka and ginger I believe. Pretty tasty and perfect for sitting near their front window which is a prime location for people watching.
