Where do I begin? This is the best Mediterranean fast food spot ever. I love the steak bowl with cilantro human, pickled cabbage, turnip, Spanich, topped it with some oil and vinegar. The best healthy, delicious, and clean food around the city of Sterling Heights. Please open up another spot nearby Troy, Birmingham, or Clawson. Oh, they make the best chicken lemon rice soup. I love this place!!! Everything is always fresh and delicious. Their chicken is so amazing. My only complaint is that they have drastically raised their prices. This place has a great concept, and backs it up with great food and even better prices. Think of a Middle Eastern Qdoba, and you have the general idea. You can get your protein in a wrap or a bowl, I've only had the wraps. The different kinds of humus are righteous, especially the jalapeno/cilantro one. Pile on that great garlic sauce, toppings and veggies and add a cup of great soup or a huge salad, and you're good to go. I've been here a few times now and have yet to try everything since what I normally get is so good! The staff is great, and the food is excellent quality. There are a lot of places to go to get shwarma, but this is one like you've not seen before. I hope they have a lot of success -- it's a fantastic idea executed at a very reasonable price! read more

Praise! So you've heard, same set up as Chipolte, but with Mediterranean fare. The cracked wheat didn't taste like it was good for me, so that made me happy. It's way better than brown rice. I preferred the beef over the chicken shwarma, and the jalapeno/cilantro hummus over the original, but the ole groom preferred the exact opposite. The pickled cabbage was D-LISH. Just enough curry to make it count. Had all the vegetables, including fresh jalapenos sliced on a mandolin, along with the garlic sauce & ranch sauce. Topped with fresh cilantro, and spooned it up with soft pita. Ended the meal with Baklava, which too was scrumptious. Groom-y said there was too much flower taste (couldn't discern if it was rose water or lavender), I thought it could use less, but it didn't keep me from finishing the whole thing. Will definitely return. WAIT - Did I mention that the prices are great for the quality of food you get under $6/bowl/meal. Less expensive than Chipolte & McDonalds, and just as much food as you get on a plate that you pay $13.99 at a sit down Mediterranean place. They are friendly, clean, serve delicious food, and I only wish continued success for them, because I don't want them EVER LEAVING my neighborhood. read more

I'm an instant fan!! A friend told me about this place when it first opened and let me try some of her hummus trio. I absolutely loved it but hadn't had a chance to go check out the restaurant. Today I decided to take that trip to 17 Mile and Mound and I'm very glad I did!! First of all, I did not realize how many Mediterranean restaurants are on Mound between 12 Mile and 17 Mile. This place is kind of small and in a strip mall so you have to pay attention or you might miss it. There is a pretty big sign so that helps but I drive down Mound all the time and actually never noticed Chickpea Kitchen. I love the Qdoba meets the middle east concept. Normally when I go to a Mediterranean restaurant, I just order a chicken shawarma with the traditional tomato and pickle but Chickpea Kitchen has a wide selection of fresh veggies and sauces that I would never have thought to put with my Shawarma - It's like being at Subway! The garlic sauce was a little strong for my liking...almost spicy because it was so garlicky. The girl at the counter dropped fresh fries for us which was appreciated. Updating my original review to say still 5 stars. I definitely will go out of my way and through construction to come here to eat. As you can tell by all the other reviews this place is happening and is delicious. If you've never gone here you definitely need to, get yourself a bowl of delicious mediterranean food and take it home and then go back the next day and the next day and the next day. Super inexpensive, and you do not lose flavor or portion size for the lower cost. Everything is delicious and fresh and have I said delicious? O yeah it's delicious. Treat yo' self! read more

Ok - so this is why once again, I love hunting for those little local joints that everyone seems to love!! This little place was located next to our location and after eating there on Monday for lunch, it quickly became the no brainer stop for lunch the next here days. This is a very simple but incredibly fresh/delicious alternative to the many other boring lunch places one could chose from. Their seasonings are spot on and they provide a nice alternative to eat for everyone...from us animal eaters to vegan. Today I was running some errands and as a loyal Yelper I went on here and wrote salads, this was the first restaurant it came on my search. I was beyond hungry so I wanted something FAST and healthy of course. So, I ordered a Bowl (They have Pita as another option) and they have like 4-5 type of meats, I ordered steak shawarma with fattoosh salad. IT was DELICIOUS!!, I cant tell you how fresh everything was and very flavorful. This is my new favorite place to go. The person behind me ordered a veggie bowl and lentil soup which next time i will try. If you want something fresh, healthy and not pricey come here! Food is amazing, similar to Chipotle or Qudoba but much much better. All the ingredients are super fresh, healthier alternative for fast food! And they use chicken breast instead of chicken thigh so there's no gummy weird pieces like you get from chipotle. Whoa. I read the reviews on Yelp and they did not disappoint. The food was fantastic. Tasted incredibly fresh and well prepared. Very similar to Chipotle but with a Mediterranean base. The food is truly great and you can't beat the cost. Just got done eating lunch and I wasn't really impressed. Got a Chicken Shawarma bowl with hot sauce, pickled veggies, rice, and lettuce. The flavors didn't blow me by any means. We also got a greek salad that again wasn't anything super special about it either. Excellent food, well flavored and fast service. In addition, if you are environmentally conscious the food is served in biodegradable bowls! Recently, they catered a graduation party for my son and his cousin. The guests at the party said that the food was wonderful and the best out of the grad parties they had attended. We got a medium mixed appetizer - you get to choose 5 items from a pretty substantial list. They have the Lebanese staples I'm used to: hummus, tabbouli, baba ghanouj, fattoush. They also have jajeek salad (cucumber and yogurt - like a good tzatziki), Iraqi salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, onions - and beets, which made it great), Beiruty cabbage salad (will try it next time), and pasta salad (will probably need to try this as well). The hummus was less garlic and more tahini, and really great. Then we got a Combo Tray for 2, which might be the single best menu item I have ever ordered. Setting the meat aside for a second, the grilled jalapeno and grilled tomato were excellent, the yellow rice was good, and the brown rice (which they call biryani) was fantastic. But the meat was what set this meal apart. The chicken shawarma was, hands down, the best I have ever had. The beef shawarm was excellent. And the chicken tikka (like tawook) was so moist and perfect - it's what chicken should be. And the chicken cream chop was as perfect as fried chicken should be. This was plenty enough meat for a family of 5 - we didn't finish it; and if we had finished the appetizers, this might be double the meat we needed! The combo tray came with stew, which we also didn't finish, although we really enjoyed it. The stew choices are okra, potato, eggplant, and a fourth one I forget. We tried okra and potato and they were both tasty tomato-based stews. One final note: the pita bread was thrown on the grill quickly before being brought out - the warmth was a nice touch.

The first time they forgot the entire side of Rice, but shame on me for not checking your bag. The second time they quoted me 20 minutes on the phone and after we got to the restaurant and waited 35 minutes, she told me whoops, we lost your ticket. We wait 15 more minutes and even though I ordered kebab skewers, I was given weird thin grilled chicken breast with no vegetables. The other entrée was ice cold. We placed another order today, I even asked her to make sure it was correct because we've had two bad experiences back to back. Quoted 20 minutes, we get the food after 30 minutes and the entire sandwiches is wrong. So they remake the sandwich and give us french fries that are ice cold with the new sandwich. The lack of attention to detail for the cost of the items is just not worth it. Just disappointed overall... not sure what's happened there recently.

I've been going here multiple times since it opened and I love it every time. Of course I had to give myself a break otherwise if I had it too often I would probably get sick of it. But I love getting the chicken fattoush salad, the dressing is super sour and my tastebuds love it. I feel that they do a great job of creating a happy medium for people who don't really eat Mediterranean food often like myself but there just enough flavor for the people who do. Chickpea Kitchen is like a Mediterranean Chipotle, and the food here is consistently incredible! My go-to order is a Grilled Chicken Bowl with white rice, lentil beans, original hummus, spinach, onions, pickled cabbage, green peppers, chickpeas, jalapeños, beets, pepperoncinis, and a drizzle of garlic sauce. I have eaten a lot of middle eastern food - it's my favorite cuisine - and this is some of the best I have ever had. This is Iraqi Chaldean food - could it be better than Lebanese? We got a medium mixed appetizer - you get to choose 5 items from a pretty substantial list. They have the Lebanese staples I'm used to: hummus, tabbouli, baba ghanouj, fattoush. They also have jajeek salad (cucumber and yogurt - like a good tzatziki), Iraqi salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, onions - and beets, which made it great), Beiruty cabbage salad (will try it next time), and pasta salad (will probably need to try this as well). The hummus was less garlic and more tahini, and really great. Then we got a Combo Tray for 2, which might be the single best menu item I have ever ordered. Setting the meat aside for a second, the grilled jalapeno and grilled tomato were excellent, the yellow rice was good, and the brown rice (which they call biryani) was fantastic. But the meat was what set this meal apart. The chicken shawarma was, hands down, the best I have ever had. The beef shawarm was excellent. And the chicken tikka (like tawook) was so moist and perfect - it's what chicken should be. And the chicken cream chop was as perfect as fried chicken should be. This was plenty enough meat for a family of 5 - we didn't finish it; and if we had finished the appetizers, this might be double the meat we needed! The combo tray came with stew, which we also didn't finish, although we really enjoyed it. The stew choices are okra, potato, eggplant, and a fourth one I forget. We tried okra and potato and they were both tasty tomato-based stews. One final note: the pita bread was thrown on the grill quickly before being brought out - the warmth was a nice touch.
