Love them. Agree 100% that the mechanics at Chico's Sunoco do not condescend to their customers. I brought my car in for inspection and the mechanic who took the keys from me came walking in to say "are you possibly due for an oil change?" I blanched a bit, how could they know?!?!?, and admitted that I likely was due... "No problem, it'll be a few extra minutes". No lecture, no scolding, no guilt trips... he just took care of it and was completely honest that it only took a couple extra minutes! My wife and daughter were stranded in the Fresh Pond shopping center parking lot when our car wouldn't start. They walked to the closest service station (Chico's) and asked for help. Wally drove them back to our car, tried to start it, and made an educated guess about the problem (fuel pump relay). We were able to get the car to Chico's and fixed within a couple of hours. It was such a good experience (considering the situation) that I think I'll go out of my way to bring my car back in the future. Thanks to Wally for helping my family in a pinch! read more

Wally answered and was very nice and accommodating, asking what kind of car I drive and telling me that, yes, I could bring it in the next 30 minutes and get the inspection done in about 15-20. Nate and Wally totally rock. Very honest and helpful. I recommend all my friends to this place. A few years ago my transmission crapped out. The dealer where I had bought two cars would not help out with it at all and wanted to charge me $4,000 for the repair. I went to Nate. He said he could install a refurbished one for $1,500 but also suggested I try calling American Honda to complain about the dealer. Low and behold, the next day Honda called me back and ended up paying for the entire repair. Nate saved me a bundle and he was happy to hear it. I bought them a case of beer and have taken my cars there ever since. Heck, I moved to Arlington, and I STILL take my cars there. It's worth it. Horrible service. Their gas is always 10 to 20 cents higher then the other gas station 500 yards away. I was tricked by a cashier and was talked into using credit on my debit card because it was not going through. He insuredme my card would work and after 5$, I though he could be wrong I was right my card did not work after several attempts. Luckily I scrummaged up the money in cash, they suck. read more

I don't know who Chico is, or was, but Nate (the owner) and Wally, who run it now, are a dream team. They are totally honest and ethical; nice to everyone; experienced, hard-working and accommodating. They kept my old clunker going long past its expiration date, for peanuts. I can call them any time for help and advice, and they treat me like a valued friend. Once Nate did a repair for me he refused to be paid for. "Nate, you're a doll," I said. Nate said, "I try." My car needed oil and the guy told me the oil cost $10 per container, but couldn't swipe my card because the machine was "broken". I needed three containers for $30 - but when I googled the price it was less than $5 each. As soon as I called him on it he said he made a mistake and then his machine suddenly worked again and the cost was $4 a piece and he refunded my money. Thanks for trying to rip off a woman taking care of her car. I have been buying gas here for years - wow. Avoid this place. read more

I can't say enough good things about Chico's Sunoco! I first brought my car here when I moved to the area and felt like I had been ripped off at other garages. They did countless oil changes and repairs on my 10 year old car and I never felt that the repairs were unnecessary. When Nate told me I needed to have my exhaust system replaced and I balked at the repair, he brought me out to my car on the lift and made me stick my hand over the exhaust system to feel the air escaping where it shouldn't be. It was the first time a mechanic didn't look at me with the 'stupid girl doesn't know anything about cars' look on his face. I didn't doubt him after that. When I brought my new car in to be inspected, Wally came out and joked with me about what a good decision it was to get the new car and how much money I had sunk into the old car. It was kind of nice that my mechanic remembered me enough to joke about my old car. All of the staff is friendly. The garage location is also convenient -- across from Fresh Pond and near a Starbuck, Whole Foods and TJ Maxx in case you want to go for a walk, grab a snack or go shopping while you wait. read more

I went to Chico's Sunoco Station in Cambridge, MA because my brakes were making noises I did not like. I left my van (a '98 Dodge Caravan) around 10 in the morning on Friday August 26 '11, and picked it up when it was ready, just after 6pm the same day. When I picked up the van, the brakes were working fine, but the front driver's side window wouldn't roll down. I also noticed later that night that when I opened the door the car light didn't turn on (though this was sporadic as it turned out - sometimes it did). Both of these things had been functioning perfectly when I dropped the van off. The guy behind the counter said all the mechanics had gone home but I should come back the next day; they'd be there until 4pm on Saturday. When I came back at 11:30am on Saturday I met Abe and told him the problem. He laughed at me and said the window has nothing to do with the brakes, but I should come back on Monday since they were closing up shop at noon. So I came back Monday morning and left the van there. I got a call later that day - they could fix the window for another $250 (beyond the $300 I had paid for new front brake pads, in other words). I came back and explained to them again that these things had broken during the eight-hour period when the van had been under their care, but I was told by multiple mechanics working there that it was just a coincidence, and that the window would have stopped working at that time even if I had just left it parked during the same eight hours. Long story short, if something breaks while they're fixing your car, it's your problem, not theirs. read more

About time I write a review for Chico's since I've been going there for a couple years now...I have a ten year old car and not much money and I've found Wally to be an amazing, honest person who doesn't try and take me for everything I DON'T have. I go there for everything now, from oil changes every few months to recent problems I'd been having with my tires (I don' t know if it's the neighborhood I moved to, Corcoran Park area of Cambridge behind the Shaw's on Mt. Auburn or just some bad tires but Wally's been trying to work with me on it.) I find him honest and truly kind, something that's rare in life let alone in a mechanic. I hope you guys at Chico's read this since perhaps I haven't thanked you in person enough and those of you looking for an honest shop, please give these guys a try. On a purely selfish level, I want to keep them in business forever so I don't ever have to deal with the shady shenanigans of other shops ever again. read more

I love these guys! We have two cars and Nate has always been very good to us. The other guy who is great here is Wally. Overall, they are very honest and won't take you for a ride. Everytime I've taken my car in, they fix it promptly and always walk me through what's going on, but never seem to push you into something. We also took a car to him before we bought it and he steered me away from it. Nate spotted that the transmission had been "wiped" which meant that someone had looked at a leak but they didn't fix it. His quote was, "I don't know where you go this car but I would stay away from it." That's all I needed to hear! I took a similar car in a week later and he said it looked much better. (The car he approved and I bought has been working great) Overall, can't recommend these guys enough. They use new parts but you save a little on labor costs. Overall, they're awesome. And there's a Dunkin's right next door. Really nice when you're waiting around for your car. read more

I've been taking my car to Chico's Sunoco for about 10 years and I have nothing but positive experiences. Nate and Wally are top professionals who do a great job. They charge a reasonable price and have the car ready when they say they will. For small repairs or an extra quart of oil, they often don't even charge me. If anything goes wrong (and what business can claim it never makes mistakes), they fix the problem immediately. They never give me the impression that they are trying to milk me; indeed, when my Audi needed constant repairs, Nate told me to get rid of it because I was spending more having him fix it than I would on a new car. Awesome! I pulled in to the station with a serious flat tire and Wally came right out to greet me. On his way to evaluating the really obvious flat tire, he showed me another tire that had a gaping wound. He not only changed my tire as a courtesy, he price shopped two new tires for me and went out of his way to add me in to his schedule so I could be serviced quickly and efficiently. He walked me through the process of where he would put the new tires and why he was going to move the old tires around. He then followed up to make certain I was satisfied with my experience. Totally satisfied! While I waited I was able to observe the staff and they are all so kind and so friendly. Absolutely will go back and I highly recommend them. read more

Not sure what to think of these people. I had a leak in the cooling system and had to fill the coolant reservoir almost every week to keep the coolant at the max. They found the source of the leak quickly and for a relatively small fee. So that was great. But then they said that, in order to fix the leak, they would need to replace the engine coolant temperature sensor and the housing. The repair amounted to several hundred dollars. I became suspicious though, because I called the dealer and they told me that the cost of the housing alone was just $100 below what Sunoco asked me for parts and labor. I spent a day trying to figure out why Sunoco was willing to do it for so cheap, fearing that there was no need to replace the housing at all. It was much worse. I found out that I did not need to replace neither the housing nor the temperature sensor. The problem was that the O-ring on the sensor was completely missing. I am not sure how that happened but in fact when I tried to replace it myself, it was not there at all. I put the new one and the engine light disappeared immediately. Also, I have never had to ad coolant since then. All in all, the repair cost me $1.50 - the cost of the o-ring. It would have cost me more than 300 times more to fix it at Sunoco. Can't say for certain that they tried to trick me. It's hard to believe though that experienced mechanics wouldn't think of a worn O-ring as the first cause of a leak that originates from the temperature sensor. read more
