Let me start out by saying I'm a Dad and my daughter lives in the area, I live in California. It's tough being far away from your kids and they need to trust someone, anyone like plumbers or car repair technicians, anyone who people deal with when your kids don't have any expertise. My Daughter needed a tail light replaced and her state inspection done on her 2014 Honda. We talked to Peter and Dennis at the station and both men were very nice and understood my concern as a Dad and my Daughters lack of automotive knowledge. We took her car in, started to build a relationship of trust with Peter and Dennis and went to have breakfast while they looked over the car. We came back two hours later and everything was done and the price was fair. I've since returned to California and my Daughter now has a place she feels comfortable taking her car in for repairs. It's a pretty convenient area to get gas. It's also has shell beside it so if shell gas station is busy you can always have this one as an option. We always just pass by this station but this time we are low on gas and hubby decided to get gas from here. It wasn't busy so it was a quick stop. It's also close by micro center and a Starbucks so there's food nearby if you are planning to grab a snack. read more

This is a great gas station that is very well maintained and accepts speed passes. I have one of those speed passes and I'm a very big fan. First off, they are free and second of all, they save you a bit of time every single time you need to fill up. Just place it on the sensor for a second and your all set... just pump away. The staff there is nice and helpful and they also have a huge selection of drinks and are open around the clock. Furthermore, they also have food and candy. Good stuff. read more

I'm not sure what to say about this place. I took my car in with a coupon for an oil change and a tune up. The clerks and mechanics were very friendly and seemed knowledgable and trustworthy. When they called me back with the quote and diagnosis, I felt that they were trying to sell me more than my car really needed (I guess that's somewhat typical, unfortunately). I called my dealership and they said the complete tune up that they were recommending was really unnecessary with the mileage that I had on my car. So I opted for the basic. They do have 24/7 pick up which is great for people with atypical schedules - that's definitely a plus. So,I drove my car home (under 3 miles) and on the way home, I noticed that when I turned the heat on, there was a very strong smell of fuel/gas, so I drove home freezing, instead of suffocating. The next day, my car wouldn't start. No sound (like the car wasn't even trying to turn over). I called AAA and they jump started my car, after some effort. My battery (which is under a year old) was fine according to their test. It seems like it must be a wiring issue. The AAA guy thought it was suspicious that all this occurred a day after I brought it in for a tune up. I'm really hoping it is just coincidence. One last thing, I had asked for the fluids to be topped off - looks exactly the same as before the tune up. :-( I feel like I have to bring it in again (somewhere else) to fix the problem, but also for a whole new tune up again. Friendly service . . . just really not sure what to think. read more

I went to this place today for getting my insurance inspection done. The guy saw my car and said state inspection is due. I kinda got worried that he might try to scheme me - based on another review here - but trusted the other 3 reviews and told him to get that done as well. He said 30 minutes, and I can wait either in the waiting area or at the dunkin next door. Went to Dunkin, got some tea and 25 minutes later walked back. My car was standing in another spot, and the papers were inside. The guy said - all done. Insurance free and state inspection $29. I paid, got out, got gas and was on my way. Loved the simplicity of the experience and bonus points for the add-on notice about the state inspection. Recommended to others. read more

My oil was nearing, but not at the end of it's longevity and i was out of washer fluid. The problem with living in a small apartment with a two year old that you don't have any suitable place to store excess washer fluid. So i decided i could get my oil changed and the fluids topped up. I live near this Mobile and thought it would be nice to get my oil changed there. I would be able to wait at home and I could support a local establishment and it's employees. They were courteous and offered to get it done quickly. When I came back late they told me it was done and that I needed only a splash of washer fluid. When I got to my car I tried to check if there was any fluid and there appeared to still be none. That, and the coolant was low. I went back in an the guy who did the service (who also later claimed to be the manager) said that of coarse he put in the washer fluid and said that he even tested it. He also said that the coolant should be below min when the engine is cool. I said okay and left. A block away I tried the washers. They were definitely still empty. When I went back to confront the guy he became rude and refused to do anything about it. I began to wonder if he even changed my oil. When I got home and the engine was warm from the driving in circles (so said the gauge on the dash) I found that my coolant was still below min. Do not got here if you want to have your oil changed or if you don't want to support an establishment that lies about the services they say they've completed. read more

I just had a very frustrating experience at this gas station. We were in the middle of the heavy snowfall in Boston on January 12th. I went to fire up my trusty snow-blower, only to find that both tires were completely deflated. Figuring that the local Mobil "service" station would have a compressor I could use to inflate them, I walked both tires over. First bad news: In my haste, I had forgotten quarters for the pay machine. Second bad news: when I asked the mechanic (who was standing by the front counter, not doing anything) if I could use the compressor in the garage, he said flatly, "No." This resulted in me having to walk back home through the blizzard, and drive to an actual "service" station. Apparently the mechanic was only there to collect a paycheck that day since they weren't "doing any work all day," according to him. I guess I assumed they would be more than willing to help out a neighbor, but I was wrong. I will never go back here again. read more

I went here on January 19th, 2013 for my state inspection. This is what they told me needed to be fixed to pass inspection: -Inner tie rod -Tire (throw in an alignment with that of course) -Reverse light -Wipers What ACTUALLY needed to be done when I brought my car to my regular mechanic: -Outer tie rod (far less labor than the inner) The wipers were borderline....I had my guy do them since they'll need to be replace eventually. That's it. They would have squeezed $200-$250 out of me if. I assume they would have replaced the proper tie rod and charged me for the other one. Of course they may have tried to get both out of me, who knows. All I know is I will not be back here and do not recommend anyone go here. I will stick with my awesome guy in Southie, even if it takes me longer to get there. read more

Had good experiences with these guys. They explained everything that we needed, made sense. It was the same as the BMW dealer (who we didn't trust) told us months before (transfer case leak). They fixed the problem quick, and we haven't had any problems since (5-6 month later). We will bring the car back in the future. If you have leaky muffler bearings... I'd recommend taking the car to another shop. The Mobil guys seemed pretty stand up. read more

Went to Memorial Drive Mobil for my CARCO inspection and it was great! The staff were all knowledgeable and friendly. The CARCO inspection took only 30 minutes and then they sent the information directly to my car insurance company. They also offered to change the battery in my automatic key for $18 which was great. UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP!!! i just moved to cambridge a couple of months ago. I live right near the mobil gas station and found it was an easy location to get to. They are open 24 hrs. I was having problems with my car it was making a weird noise. I went in and didnt even make an appointment. They accomadated my work schedule. I got a ride to work and had a chat with one of the mechanics and found out that they recently changed owners. I was very happy with the pricing and with the customer service. They take time to explain the problem to the customers. my car is running better than ever. i have read the pervious reviews before me. I was shocked. give the new owners a try. they will make up for any of the bad experiences you have had before! read more

BEWARE of this service station. I took my car here to get its state vehicle inspection in mid-May. While waiting in the line for inspection, I overheard the mechanic tell the woman in front of me that her "tie rods" were so bad that "there's a good chance that when you drive out of here, your tire will fall off of your car and you will crash". It sounded a bit exaggerated to me, but I assumed he knew what he was talking about. When they put my car up on the lift for inspection, they took about 45 minutes, going over the car extensively. Previous inspections had only taken about 5 minutes, so this seemed strange to me. I was shocked when the mechanic called me in to tell me the same EXACT story he told the woman before me. He failed my vehicle test because of my "tie rods", similarly claiming that my tires would "fall off of my car" on the way out of there. When I told him I would get a second opinion, he got angry at me and told me that "our prices are the lowest in the Boston area". A bit too defensive, perhaps? Over the last two weeks, I've taken my car to three other mechanics for a second opinion. All three told me that my tie rods were great. The third, Car Zone in Cambridge, was fantastic and I highly recommend them. All three mechanics told me point-blank that Mobil must have failed me to get me to buy new tie rods from them. I chatted with the manager, Joseph, today and was stunned by his reaction. He seemed unsurprised that his staff would lie to me. He quickly inspected the car himself, confirmed that the tie rods were fine, and passed me on the inspection. No apology, no other rectifying measures. Only when I told him that I would report him to the police did he finally react, saying that he was "sorry for the mistake". Overall, a terrible experience from a terribly run business with questionable integrity. read more

You couldn't pay me to go back to this place. I had a similar experience as the "tie rod" guy. I was also told my car was unsafe and I should not drive it out of there. Not only that, the mechanic who happened to be working that morning made me feel really uncomfortable. He kept trying to find out what I was doing that night, asking me if I was going out drinking, stupid stuff like that. It was incredibly awkward. Not only that, he tried to make me think that because we were "buddies" I was getting some sort of special deal (only $500+ to fix my car, woohoo!). Am I supposed to be happy about that!? Luckily when I went back there was a different person there who was much less creepy. I was able to get my car back and drive it far, far away from that place. read more

Long story, short: They tried to sell me on a fake $800 repair. Long Story: I had been going to this place for my inspection for a few years and never had any issues outside of the minor upsell on windshield wipers. However, one day when I needed to get my battery replaced, they told me that an axle* was leaking fluid and it would be $800 to repair. I smelled b.s. and asked for more explanation and they were fuzzy on the details, but basically said my car could stop working at any time if I didn't get it fixed. (This was the kid who always wears a Northeastern sweatshirt and who I had liked up until he lied to my face). I took the car over to my family's long-time mechanic on Roxbury and inquired about the repair. He said it was 100% bull crap. It's 2+ years later and my car is still running beautifully without the repair. I hate to give them a bad rating considering their somewhat noble role in capturing the Boston Marathon bombers, but a scam is a scam is a scam. *I can't recall what the exact repair was 2 years later, but it was something like that. read more

As a business owner myself, I was APPALLED after talking with Joseph, the manager/owner of Mobil on Memorial Dr in Camb ... I have never been taken for a ride like the one he sent me on in my entire life. He was very dishonest when it came to what he fixed in my Jeep. He charged me DOUBLE what he told me the original cost would be ( example $60 for coolant alone) When I called to confront him, he was extremely displeasing. I asked his last name (to report to Mobil Corp, in which I did anyways)- he said that his last name was NOT my concern. I felt he was rude and I will NEVER EVER be back to that location for anything! If you need work on your car, save yourself the favor and do your research before you leave your car at this location, unless of course you don't like money and want to pay $476 for a $"93" part! I'll never go to this place for a vehicle check, or any vehicle-related service. I took my vehicle there initially only for a $29 vehicle check. But I was enticed by the $20 oil change, and thought I could save time and money by doing both. 20 mins later, the mechanic told me my transmission fluid was also dirty, recommending another $70 service of transmission oil change. I blindly complied. Another 15 mins later, the mechanic told me my front struts needed to be changed because they were leaking oil. He showed me the oil and told me if I did not do it, I would not pass the vehicle test. The cost would be $750 if I did it there. And this was after a "student discount." At this point I started to get suspicious and declined his offer. He was not very happy and, of course, failed my vehicle, affixing a "R" label (R for rejected) on the windshield, telling me I could no longer operate the vehicle because it was unsafe and police could pulled me over and fine me. To get a second look and not to be car-less, I immediately took my car to a dealership, which, after a thorough inspection, told me the struts were perfectly fine. The "leaked" oil was likely spread on recently, as it did not catch any dust and the inside part of the struts were completely dry. I paid another $29 to have my vehicle checked in the dealership and it passed with flying colors, saving me $750. I hope this was not some kind of scam. But if the mechanic at this Mobil station had nothing to do with the "oil leak," then I'd expect him to notice that the oil on the struts was not an issue and save all the threatening remarks about my safety and possible citations. read more

These guys gave me the same old story about my wiper blades even though I told them they were less than 4 months old and I showed him my receipt. I brought my late model Toyota here for an inspection. The inspector failed the car saying that it needed rear shocks and added that he could fix it there for about $500. I was a little suspicious since my own mechanic had just checked out my car and told me that it was in good shape. So I payed the inspection fee and left with the rejected sticker. The next day I called the RMV and they told me that if the Toyota Dealer checks the car out and deems it fine, they can overide the rejection. So I took it to the Toyota Service garage in my area. Lo and Behold, the car passed inspection! The mechanic told me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my shocks! So avoid this place at all costs. I feel sorry for those folks he's already fleeced or will continue to rip off, especially the elderly and those with very limited resources. Buyer Beware!! read more

I've been there twice. The first time for an oil change with a coupon that I had bought online. They were friendly enough and seemed to know what they were doing until I saw that my oil change light was still on. Went back to have them reset it and they didn't seem to know how to do it. Finally was able to reset it. Not a big deal overall. Went in again today, granted it was Black Friday. I had called earlier in the week to confirm if they were open and would do oil changes the day after Thanksgiving and I was assured that they would be and to just come in sometime in the morning. I did so and was told I need an appointment. I told them I called and that someone told me I didn't need one. They claimed that the mechanic was busy with several cars in front of me and it would take 3 hours before they could get to it. That would be fine except that there were no cars in the garage and no mechanic to be found. They obviously didn't want the business, but if that's the case why are you open and why did you lie? I went to mobile for my car inspection , the car inspection failed and I was told to change my tire wiper and so ... Most of the time the manager is good , From the beginning the mechanic was not hospitable and he gave me a rate of $1300 to fix my car , unfortunately I went to the car dealer for a second opinion and the dealer indicated as no issue and passed inspection ! I been going to the Mobil station down the street from me for the past 4 years , I took my car to get the state inspection done , I was approached by a new kid and ask me to get my registration ready and if I need an oil change , tire rotation and if I'm happy with my wipers . He took my car in to the inspection bay 10 minutes after he called me in to tell me that my car needs brakes which were done a year ago and tires and some factory recommendation . I felt uncomfortable because he was very pushy and ignorant I declined any services he claimed that my car will be rejected I agreed to get the rejection sticker and I asked him about the manager that he was always helpfull , honest and friendly . He told me that he is at a diffrent location and introduce himself as the owner . I took my car to 3 diffrent locations to get another opinions and they all told me their is more than 80% life left in my brakes and it will pass . DO NOT LET THIS KID TAKE YOUR MONEY . Well, I have to say that I have been going to this Mobil station for quite sometime to get my gas. Fuel prices are always the lowest around and the customer service couldn't be better. The young lady who works during the day is probably the most pleasant I have come across inside a gas station. I read the previous reviews about the manager Joseph and can say that there has been a change in ownership as of late and the new manager is very pleasant. I would have to say give this place a try. And to Becca, it is a Shell across the street not a Sunoco and I used to be a customer there and the service is terrible compared to the Mobil. I would say give the Mobil a chance now that the person you complain about is gone. read more

Eddie is the best! We were driving from CT to Cambridge last Saturday morning for an important event when suddenly (on the Mass Pike) the power steering stopped working and all sorts of urgent messages lit up on the dash. It was pretty scary. We called a Volvo dealer and lots of service stations to find someone who could repair our car same day to no avail. So when we got off the exit 18, we drove into the Mobil station right on Mem Drive on the off chance that they could help us. Eddie quickly figured out the problem and got to work right away. We went to our event. After an hour, Eddie called to say he found another (related) problem and asked us to approve the additional cost, which we did. Just as our event was ending, Eddie called to say that it was done. It felt like a miracle. The price was appropriate and we couldn't believe he could do it on a Saturday when no one else was available. We had to drive home three hours from there and it was like driving a new car -- the problem was completely resolved. Can't recommend them highly enough! read more
